4 Bef ore Inst alling the Swit ch Blade The M6100 series swit ch blades ar e designed to be inst alled in the XCM8903 r ack-mount swit ch chassis. NET GEAR rec ommends installing the X CM8903 r ack-mount chassis int o a rack bef ore installing any s witch blades.
5 Install the Chassis Y ou can either br acke t-mount the chassis into a r ack or install the chassis using the included r ails. For mor e information about installing the chas sis using rails, see the X CM8903 Har dwar e Installation Guide . ¾ T o br acket-mount the chassis: 1.

Car efully slide the fan tr ay all the way int o the f an tray bay at the r ear of the chassis. The f an tray is c onnected t o power when it has been insert ed comple tely int o the f an tr ay bay .
7 2. Scr ew the fan tr ay t o the r ear of the chassis using the included scr ews. Install the S witch Blade ¾ T o install a swit ch blade in a M6100 series chassis swit ch: 1. Select a slot f or the switch blade. 2. R emove a blank fr ont panel from the chassis slo t , if necessary .
8 6. Using bo th hands, push bo th handles tow ar d the cent er of the swit ch blade, as shown. 7. Use your fingers or a scr ewdriver to turn the fr ont panel screws on each injector-ejector handle clockwise and comple tely down. When the scr ew is fully tightened, the yellow band ar ound the captive scr ew is complet ely hidden.
9 C AUTION: Be car eful to avoid over t or quing and stripping the scr ew heads. Install the P ow er Supply ¾ T o install the pow er supply : 1. Car efully slide the power supply all the way int o the power supply bay until it clicks into plac e. C AUTION: Do not slam the pow er supply int o the sy st em backplane.

11 2. C onnect the optional board and secur e it with the attached scr ews as shown. Configur e the S witch Blade Y ou can manage your swit ch thr ough its web management int erfac e or by using the command-line int erfac e (CLI) thr ough a console port .
