4 LED Descriptions The LEDs indicate the status of your Powerline devices. • Wh en you plug in the Powerline device, the Power LED lights and tur ns green. • T he Ethernet LED lights a nd turns green when you connect a powered-on Ether net device to at least one Ethe rnet port.
5 Button Descriptions The buttons on your Powerlin e devices let you do the following: • Factory Reset button: Use the Factory Reset button to return your Powerline device to its defaul t factory settings. Press the Factory Reset button fo r 2 seco nds, and th en release it.
6 Install the Adapters and Surf the W eb with WiFi 1. Secure your Powe rline network. a. Make sure that the Power LED is solid green on each Powerline device. b. On the XA V5201 adapter , press the Security button for 2 seconds, and then release the button.
7 The Powerline devic es can communic ate over the Power line network in a secure way . 2. Plug the XA V5201 i nto a wall outlet near your router o r gateway .
8 If you want to share Internet access acro ss your home, make sure to connect the XA V5201 to your Internet gateway with an Ethernet cable..
9 4. Plug the XWN5001 access point into a wall outlet where you need WiFi cove rage. Note: Yo u can connect an Ethernet-bas ed device (like a game console, set-top box, or Blu-ray player) to th e Internet and the home network with the additiona l Ethernet port on the XWN5001.
10 5. Set up WiFi access on yo ur XWN5001 access point. Y ou can set up WiFi access on your XWN5001 access point in o ne of two ways: • Option 1 : Use NETGEAR genie to manually configure th e wireless settings of your XWN5001 access point. a. Inst all NETGEAR genie.
11 d. Click the Powerline icon on the Network Map screen. The Powerline Utility screen displays: Powerline icon XWN5001 icon e. On the Powerline Utility screen, right-click the XWN5001 icon.
12 f. From the pop-up menu that di splays, select Wireless configurat ion . g. Enter the following wireless settings: • Wireless N etwork Name (SSID) • Wireless S ecurity T ype • Pa ssphrase.
13 If you want to clone your exis ting wireless netwo rk, enter the same wireless settings that your router or gateway uses. When you are r oaming in your house, your wireless client (laptop, tablet, or smar tphone) switches from one network (router or gateway) to the other (XWN5001), depending on the signal quality .
14 • Option 2 : Use the we b browser setup guide to manually configure the wireless settings of your XWN500 1 access point. On your computer or wireless device (ta blet, smartphone): a. Open the software tha t manages your wireless network conne ctions and connect to the XWN5001 network.
15 b. On the same com puter or wirele ss device, op en a web browser windo w . The browser takes you directly to the on screen setu p guide. If it does not, enter on e of the following into the browser address bar: www .mywifiext.net www .netgearextender .
16 If you want to clone your exis ting wireless netwo rk, enter the same wireless settings that your router or gateway uses. If you want to create a new wireless network, en ter new wireless settings. Creating a new wirele ss networ k lets you have a second network in another zone of your house.
17 6. Connect your wireless clie nt (laptop, tablet, or smartphone) to the XWN5001 for Internet access. • Option 1 : Use the WPS bu tton on your wireless client to automatically connect to the XWN5001 access point. a. Press and hold the Security b utton on the XWN5001 for 2 seconds and release it.
