Locate a r ack-mounting bracket (su pplied) and place it over the mounting ho les on one side of the unit. 3. Use the screw s (supplied) to se- cure the br acket (with a Phillip s screwdriv er).

18 Gettin g Start ed Guid e 2.8.3 GBIC C are and Han dling Follow the se GBIC main tenance g uidelines: • Unnecessary removal a nd insertion of a GBIC can le ad to its premature failure. A G BIC connector has a lifet ime of 100 to 500 re movals/in sertions • GBICs are static-sensitive.

Carefu lly review the power requirem ents (Chapte r 2.3) before conne cting pow er to the uni t. 1. Plug one end o f the suppl ied pow er cord into t he power con- nector on the back of the unit.

This adv anced featur e means that the 1 0/100 ports w ill automati cally det ermine whether the de- vice at the other end of t he lin k is a hub, sw itch or w orkstatio n, and adjust its signal s accordingly .
