Page 1-4 Introduction One of the advantages of the PCI bus is that it is pr ocessor independent. The Asanté PCI adapters are capable of working with both PCI-based PC and P ower Macintosh computers. PCI devices are also self configuring, making them very easy to install and use.
2 Installing the Asanté PCI Adapter Installing the Adapter The follo wing instr uctions explain ho w to install the Asanté PCI adapter . ∆ Note: Y ou do not need to set any jumpers or switches on the adapter . 1 T ur n the power off and remove the computer co ver .
Page 2-2 Installing the Asanté PCI Adapter Connecting the Adapter to the Networ k The AsantéF AST 10/100 adapter provides a single RJ-45 port for connecting the adapter to your netw ork. Using NW ay™ auto-neg otiation, the adapter will sense the hub's speed and set the adapter to run at either 10Mbps or 100Mbps.
Page 2-3 Configuring the Adapter Configur ing the Adapter Self-Configuring the Adapter One of the advantages of PCI is that all of its devices ar e self-configur ing. The Asanté PCI adapter is designed to utilize this featur e. T o configure the adapter , plug it into a PCI slot with bus-mastering capa bil- ity .
Page 2-4 Installing the Asanté PCI Adapter This means that after power up initialization, the adapter will automatically connect at the appropriate speed (10Mbps or 100Mbps) and/or Full Duplex without user inter vention. The Full Duple x operation can only be configur ed with a hub or a switc h product that supports it.

4 T r oubleshooting LED Indicator s Overview The figure below shows the LED indicators that illustrate the presence of Link Integrity (LI), Data T raffic (TX), 100Mbps operation and 10Mbps opera- tion for installation v er ification and diagnostic purposes.
Page 4-2 T roubleshooting Link Integrity LED (AsantéF AST 10/100 and AsantéNIC-PCI) The green Link Integ r ity (LI) LED indicates a valid connection to the net- wor k. If link integ r ity is not detected, there is a link failure and the LI LED will be off.
Page 4-3 LED Indicators 100Mbps Operation LED (AsantéF AST 10/100 Onl y) The green 100Mbps (100) LED indicates the configur ation of the adapter for 100Mbps (100BASE-TX) operation. 10Mbps Operation LED (AsantéF AST 10/100 Onl y) The amber 10Mbps (10) LED indicates the configuration of the adapter f or 10Mbps (10BASE-T) operation.

PC Diagnostic Program T o run the dia gnostic progr am on your PC, follow the procedur e below .
