3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES DANGER: This machine was built to be oper ated according to th e rules for safe operation in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, car elessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury.
4 5. Never run an engine in doors or in a poo rly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas. 6. Do not operate machine while under the influen ce of alcohol or drugs. 7. Muffler and engine become hot and can ca use a burn.
5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER IMPORT ANT : This unit is shipped with engin e oil but without gasoline in the engine. After assembly, see page 8 for fuel and oil fill-up details. Removing From Carton • Cut the corner s of the carton and lay the sides fl at on the ground.
6 Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires) The tires are over-in flated for shipping purposes. Ch eck and reduce tir e pressure, if needed, t o 10-15 psi. Maintain equal pres sure on both wheels of the snow thrower. Skid Shoe The space betwee n the shave plate and the gro und can be adjusted.
7 SECTION 3: KNOWING YOUR SNOW THROWER • Compare Figure 5 with your eq uipment and follow description of contro ls, given below, to get familiar with their operat ion. Figure 5 Throttle Control The throttle con trol is located on the engine. It r egulates the speed of the engine.
8 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR SNOW THROWER Before Starting Engine Engine Oil The engine is shipped with o il in it. Check the oil level before first use. For subsequ ent fill-ups, use the grade of engine oil specified in en gine manual. 1. Remove the dipstick from t he oil fill.
9 • If your house wiring system is gr ounded and a three-hole receptacle is not available at the point the snow thrower starter will normally be used, one should be installed by a licensed electrician.
10 NOTE: Y our unit is equipped with a clutch in the transmission. If the wheels stop turning while trying to discharge larg e volumes of snow , immediately disengage the drive control bail and allow the rotating augers to discharge snow from the housing.
11 Engine Listed below ar e general recommendations ab out maintaining your sn ow thrower engine. For furt her details, refer to the accomp anying engine manual. Check Oil Level • Before oper ating snow thrower, check the oil level. • With engine on level ground, oil must be to FULL mark on dipstick.
12 • Reassemble new shave plate, making sure heads of the carriag e bolts are to the inside of the housing. Reinstall skid shoe. Tigh ten securely. Figure 9 Replacing Belts NOTE: There ar e two belts on this sn ow thrower: auge r belt and drive belt.
13 Servicing Augers The augers are secured to the spir al shaft with two shear bolts and hex lock nuts . If you hit a foreign object or ice jam, the sn ow thrower is designed so tha t the bolts may shear. Refer to Figure 9. If the augers do not turn, check if the bolts ha ve sheared.
