Setting up the Keyboard Before You Begin Before you install the Stowaway keyboa rd software for Symbian UIQ mobile devices: ¾ Disable or remove any other keyboa rd applications that you have previously installed on your mobile device. (Refer t o the User’s Guide included with your mobile device for instruction on how to do this.

Configuring the Keyboard to your Device NOTE: The Bluetooth connection between the mobile device and keyboard must be set up through the Stowaway keyboard driver. 1. The main screen of the Stowaway keyboard application is the Status screen. The Status window gives you the keyboard connection status, battery and firmware information.
2. The status tab offers buttons to enable or disable your keyboard. To enable the Stowaway keyboard , make sure the keyboard is Discoverable by the mobile device. Press the Discoverable button on the keyboard until the green LED (above the <0> key) flashes once per second.
5. Next, type the same Passkey number on the Stowaway keyboard . When finished, press the <Enter> key on your keyboard. 6. If the Passkey is entered successfully on both devices, the message BT Keyboard Connected will appear. If the keyboard does not show up as connected: a.
UNSECURE CONNECTIONS 1. If you chose an Unsecured connection by removing the check mark at Options > Bluetooth Security option, connection is usually established within a few seconds after pressing the Discoverable button. If the connection is not completed, press the Discoverable button again.
2. In the Status window the keyboard battery information is displayed. The two states of the battery are: a. Normal – This is the most common state of the battery. b. Critical – This means the battery is in imminent danger of no longer functioning.
4. The Keys tab allows you to assign applications or files to open with the < Fn > + <number> shortcut. 5. About tab – Provides the version of t he Stowaway software inst alled on your mobile device. 6. Help – Application help is available from the Stowaway Keyboard menu > Help option.
Reconnecting the Stowaway keyboard The above steps establish the Blueto oth wireless connection and bonding between the mobile device and the ke yboard for the firs t time. Keyboard character input should be enabled as long as the connection is maintained.
Even when disconnected, the mobile device and the keyboard remain bonded. The keyboard will only reconnec t to the bonded mobile device and the mobile device will only listen to th e bonded keyboard. To break the bond press the Discoverable butto n for approximately 1 second or until the green LED flashes quickly.
Customizing Your Keyboard Keyboard Control Panel On the Status tab: ¾ The Status tab allows you to turn on/off access to the keyboard, and gives access to the other application features. Tap Enable BT to turn access on and Disable BT to turn access off.
Disabling the Stowaway keyboard When the Stowaway keyboard is no longer needed, you may disable the keyboard driver by tapping Disable BT on the Status tab. The BT Disabled message will then be displayed on the Status page. NOTE: Disabling the Bluetooth keyboard will not automatically turn off the Bluetooth radio.
Keyboard Status Light When the keyboard is open and the right panel is slid in, there is a light above the <0> key that indicate s the status of the keyboard. ¾ When the keyboard status light flas hes a fast green light (approx. once per second) it is in Discoverable mode .
Using the Stowaway keyboard Character Input • Commands joined by a dash “ – ” mean that the key combination must be pressed in order and with all keys held down at the same time. • Commands joined by a plus “ + ” mean that the key following the “ + ” must be pressed after the initial key combination is pressed and released.
