St ep One: Assemble Handlebar s NO TE: The Ariens c ompan y has made chang es to packaging tha t affects this serial number r ang e. If the upp er handlebar s on your unit came already at tached please disr eg ar d th e f ollowing fiv e slides.
Step On e: Assemble Handlebar s (Unf old Lower Handlebar) IMPORT A NT : Be sure to block w heels or secure unit so it does not move during assembly . 1. Rotate lower handlebar out from unit so low er handlebar mounting holes align w ith mounting holes on the unit f rame.
Step On e: Assemble Handlebar s (A t tach Upper Hand lebar Assembly) 1. Attach upper handlebar assembly to lower handlebar using two sets of the handleb ar hardware. One set to att ach each side of the handlebar s. NOTE: DO NOT tighten hardw are. Allow upper handlebar assembly to hang from the lower handlebar s for the nex t st ep.
Step On e: Assemble Handlebar s (A t tach Con tr ol Cables) 1. Hook Spring end of attachment cont rol cable to the c lutch arm. 2. Hook spring end of the traction c ontrol cable to the cable eyelet on back of frame. NOTE: Make sure the cable remains in the groove of the pulley .
Step On e: Assemble Handlebar s (Unf old Upper Handlebar) Assembly) 1. Rotate handlebar into operating position. NOTE: Be careful not to damage cable spring hooks when rotating handlebar upward. 2. Install the remaining handlebar hardware attaching the upper handlebar as sembly to the low er handlebar .
Step One: Assemble Handl ebar s (Connect Headlight Wir e Harness) NOTE: The headlight w ire harness comes attached to the upper handlebar as sembly . 1. Route the wire harness along the interior of the right side handlebar . 2. Connect to the engine elec trical plug.
Step On e: Assemble Handlebar 1. Remov e the lower and loosen the upper hardware on the handlebar as sembly . 2. Loosen the hardware on the shift rod. 3. Put the speed selector lever in the six t h forw ard pos ition. 4. Rotate the handlebar int o operating position.
Step T wo: Ins t all Discharg e Chut e 1. Grease underside of discharge chute ring (if not already greased). 2. Remov e mounting hardware from auger housing. 3. Install discharge c hute over opening in the auger housing. Finger tighten the mounting hardware remov ed above.
Step Thr ee: Inst all Discharg e Chut e Cr ank 1. Remov e the gear cov er from top of chute pedest al. 2. Insert the short end of the c hute crank into the hole in the front of the control panel. NOTE: Be careful not to damage ny lon bushing when attaching crank to the dash.
Step F our: Ins t all R emot e Deflect or Con trol Cable 1. Connect the barrel cable end to the chute deflector cable anchor before clipping the cable to the discharge chute cable bracket. 2. Route deflector remote cable along the left side of the chute pedestal.
St ep Fiv e: Check Function of Dual Handle In terlock Without the en gine running , press dow n (engage ) both clu tch levers. Relea se attachment clutch lever . Attachment clu tch should remain engage d until traction clutch lever is released , then both clutches must d isenga ge.
St ep Six: Check Tir e Pr essur e Check tire pressu re and adjust to the pressure listed on tire sidew all..
St ep Sev en: Adjus t Skid Shoes IMPORT A NT : Skid shoes should be adjusted as conditions require. Allow 1/8 in. (3mm) between scraper blade and hard smooth s urfaces. All ow 7/8 in (22 mm) between scraper blade and unev en or gravel surfaces. (See Skid Shoes in Owners Manual).
Check oil le vel in auger gearcase (see Check Auger Gearcase in Ow ners Manual). St ep Eigh t: Check Aug er Gear case Oil.
IMPORT A NT : The eng ine is shipped with 5W-30 oil in crankcase. Refer to engine manual for detailed instructions. St ep Nine: Check Engine Cr ank case Oil (Ariens AX).
Fill fuel tank. DO N OT OVERFILL! See FILLING FUEL T ANK in Ow ners Manual. St ep T en: Fill Engine Fuel T ank (Ariens AX).
St ep Ele v en: St arting the Engine (Arie ns AX).
St arting Engine / Step A: Chok e T urn throttle al l the way up. T urn choke ON..
St arting Engine / Step B: R ock er Swit ch Push rocker switch to RUN position..
St arting Engine / Step C: Fuel Shut Off V alv e T urn fuel petcock to ON position..
St arting Engine / Step D: K ey Install Safety K ey Switch. Insert ignition key into slot but DO NOT turn the key . Be sure ignit ion key snaps into place.
St arting Engine / Step E: Prime Prime sy stem: 3 primes maxi mum. DO NOT over prime system. Make sure to cover the v ent hole on primer bulb before the primer bulb is compressed. Hold the primer bulb in the compressed pos ition for one full second each time you press it.
St arting Engine / Step F: (Manual St art) Grasp rope handle. Pull slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rope firmly and quickly to start engine and avoid kickback.
St arting Engine / Step F: (Electric St art) Use a 3-wire ex tension cord and plug cord into starter motor adaptor first. Then plug cord into wall receptacle. Use appropriately siz ed extension cord (10A WG or larger) to prevent damage to electric starter .
St arting Engine / Step G: (Electric St art) Press and hold starter button. Note : Do not hol d the electric starter button down for more than 5 seconds.
St arting Engine / Step H: W arm up Allow the engine to warm up for 1- 2 minutes, move the choke control to the CHOKE OFF position..
St ep T welv e: St opping the Engine (Ariens AX) Under normal condition s: 1. T urn throttle dow n. 2. Push rocke r sw itch to STOP position. 3. Pull safety key OUT . T o s top engine in a n emergency , flip the Rocker Sw itch to the ST OP p osition, OR Pull Safety Key from Engine.
