GB - 6 Keep children and people away . Keep children out of work area and under w atchful care of a responsible adult. NEVER allow children to operate or play on or near unit. Be alert and shut off unit if children enter area. DO NOT allow adults to operate unit without proper training.
GB - 7 Before cleaning, rem oving clogs or making any inspections, repa irs, etc.: disengage clutch(es), stop unit and engine, remove key , allow moving parts to stop. A llow hot parts to cool. Run unit a few minutes af ter clearing snow to prevent freeze-up of attachment.
GB - 8 PACKAGE CONTENTS ASSEMBLY T ools Req uired: • Pliers • Open-end wrenches: 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 in. and/or adjustable wrench • T ire gauge Unfold Handlebar (Figure 4) 1. Rem ove the lower and loosen the upper hardware on the handlebar assembly .
GB - 9 Inst all Discharge Chu te (Figure 5) 1. R emove mounting hardware from the bottom of the chute pedestal. 2. Install discharge c hute over opening in the auger housing and secure pedestal to auger ho using with hardware removed in step 1. Inst all Discharge Chute Cra nk (Figure 6) 1.
GB - 10 Check Function of Dual Handle Interlock Without the engine running, pres s down (engage) both clutch levers. Release attachment clutch lever . Attachment clutch should remain engaged until traction cl ut ch lever is released, the n both clutches must disengage.

GB - 12 CONTROLS AND FEA TURES See Figure 7 for all Controls and Features locations. Dual Handle Interlock When attachment clutch and then tracti on drive clutch are engaged, the attachment clutch will remain engaged ( lever down) if released. T o stop attachment, release traction drive clutch and both clutches will disengage.
GB - 13 Spee d Selector Position the speed select or in the appropriate speed notch to control forward and reverse trav el. Forward: (6) Fastest (1) Slowest Reverse: (1) Slow (2) Fast IMPORT ANT : DO NOT change motion from forward to revers e with clutch engaged.
GB - 14 Discharge Chute Discharge chute rotates 205°. AL WA YS position discharge chute in safe direction and angle, away from operator and bystanders, before starting engine. Discharge Chute Crank IMPORT ANT : If chute does not stay in set position, adjust as directed in SE R VI C E AND ADJUST MENTS on page 19 , or repair before operation.
GB - 15 3. Turn fuel valve on after adding fuel stabilizer . 4. R e-start engine. 5. R un the engine outdoors for 1 minute to be sure t hat treated gasoline has replaced the untreated gasoline in the carburetor . 6. Slow the e ngine to an idle speed. 7.
GB - 16 7. Gra sp starter handle and pull rope out slowly until it pulls ha rder . Let rope rewind slowly . 8. Pull rope with a rapi d continuous full arm stroke. Let rope rewind slowly . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT let starter handle snap against starter . 9.
GB - 17 Ariens dealers will provide any service or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine service be required, contact an Ariens dealer or an auth orized engine manufacturer's service center .
GB - 18 CHECK CLUTCH OPERATION Auger / impe ller must stop within 5 seconds when attachment clutch/impeller brake lever is released. Wheels must st op quickly when traction drive clutch lever is released.
GB - 19 GENERAL LUBRICATION (Figure 12) IMPORT ANT : Wipe each fitting clean before and after lubrication. Do not wipe gea rcase filler plug; wiping the gearcase filler pl ug may remove thread sealant and cause leaks . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT allow grea se or oil to get on friction disc, f r iction plate or belts.
GB - 20 SHEAR BOLTS (Figure 14) IMPORT ANT : Use only Ariens shear b olts for replacement. Use of any other type of s hear bolt may result in severe damage to unit and may void the warranty . Occasionally a foreign object may enter the auger/impeller housing and jam the auger , breaking shear bolts which secure the auger to the shaft.
GB - 21 DISCHARGE CHUTE (Figure 16) If discharge chute does not stay in position while operating, tighten nut on carriage bolt at pivot point to increase tension on s pring. SP EED SELECTOR ADJUSTMENT (Figure 17) T o adjust: 1. Disconnect adjustment pivot pin from speed select or arm.
GB - 22 4. R emove spring pin from chute crank and sep arate. 5. R emove belt finger by rem oving cap screws mounting belt finger to engine (Figure 19 or 20). 6. R emove attachment drive belt f rom engine sheave ( it may be nec essary to turn engine s heave using recoil starter handle).
GB - 23 T RACTI ON DRIVE BE LT REPLACEMENT (Figures 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22) NOTE: Housing and frame must be tipped apart and attachment drive belt removed from engine sheave in order to change traction drive belt. 1. R emove attachment drive belt (S ee Remove Attachment Drive Belt on page 21).
GB - 24 ATT AC HMENT CLUTCH/BRAKE ADJUSTMENT Remove Att achment Cable Slack (Figure 23 and 24) 1. Lo osen hardware securin g belt cover to unit. NOTE: DO NOT completely remove hardware from unit.
GB - 25 Adjust th e Attachm ent Clutch Cable S pring Extension (Figure 26) 1. C heck the attachment clutch cable spring extension. Measure the length o f the attachment clutch cable spring with the clutch lever disengaged. Then measure the attachment clutch spring with the clutch lever engaged.
GB - 26 Check Belt Finge r Clearance (Figure 28) 1. With c lutch lever engaged, the belt finger located opposit e the belt idler must be less than 1/8 in. (3. 2 mm) from belt, but not touching the belt . T o adjust belt finger , loosen the bolt s and move the finger to the proper position.
GB - 27 FRICTIO N DISC R EPLAC EMENT Remove Fric tion Disc (Figure 30 and 31): 1. Shut off engine, remove key , disconnect spark plug wire and allow unit to cool completely . 2. Place the unit into the service position on a level surface. 3. R emove lockpins from wheel axles and remove wheels.
GB - 28 SHORT T ERM IMPORT ANT : NEVER spray unit with high pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors . Run with attachment clutch engag ed a few minutes after each use to free unit of any loose or melting snow . Close fuel shut-off valv e. Inspect unit for v isible signs of wear , breakage or damag e.
GB - 29 TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wi ll not crank/ start. 1. F uel tank is empty . 2. Fuel shut-off valve closed. 3. Build up of dirt and residue around governor/carburetor . 4. Key switch not in r un position. 5. Engine start switch turned off.
GB - 30 Unit throws snow poo rly or does not throw snow . 1. Shear bolts broken. 2. Attachment clutch/brake not adjusted properly . 3. Auger is frozen in place. 4. Ic e or debris is obstructing auger . 5. Attachment drive belt slipping, worn or damaged.
