W arning and Safety instructions 8 Safety with children Children under 8 years of age must be k ept away from the wash‐ ing machine unless they are constantly supervised.
W arning and Safety instructions 9 The electrical safety of this washing machine can only be guar an‐ teed when corr ectly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety r equirement is met. If in any doubt, please have the wiring system of the building t ested by a qualified electrician.
W arning and Safety instructions 10 The machine must be isolated fr om the electricity supply when cleaning and maintaining the machine and in the event of a fault.
W arning and Safety instructions 11 Correct use Do not install the washing machine in a room wher e there is a risk of frost. F ro zen hoses may burst or split. The reliability of the elec‐ tronic contr ol unit may be impaired at t emperatur es below freezing point.
W arning and Safety instructions 12 T ake care when opening the drum door after using the st eam function. Danger of burning due to escaping st eam and the high temper ature of the surface of the drum as well as the porthole glass. Stand back away fr om the machine and wait until the steam has dis‐ sipated.
W arning and Safety instructions 13 Colour run and dye removers contain sulphur compounds which can cause damage such as corrosion. Do not use these pr oducts in this machine. If deter gent comes into contact with the eyes, rinse them thor‐ oughly with lukewarm water immediat ely .

Before using for the first time 17 Before using the machine for the first time ensure that it is corr ectly in‐ stalled and connected. See "Installa‐ tion and connection". Also check that the drain filt ers are secur ely tightened to pr event the risk of water leaks during use.
Before using for the first time 18 This washing machine has undergone a complete functional test at the fac‐ tory and there will be some r esidual water in the drum fr om this process. F or safety reasons, spinning is not pos‐ sible until the machine has been pre‐ pared for using for the first time.
Before using for the first time 19 Messages T wo messages about removing the transit bars and preparing the washing machine for use will appear in the dis‐ play . Confirm the messages with the OK sensor . Running the first progr amme The T winDos unit needs to be activa‐ ted befor e running the first pro‐ gramme.
T winDos 20 The washing machine has an integr ated deter gent dispensing unit. The deter gent dispensing unit can be used with 1. the Miele 2 Phase System or 2. any other liquid detergent and/or fab‐ ric conditioner The Miele 2 Phase System The Miele 2 Phase System uses a base deter gent (UltraPhase 1) and a deter‐ gent enhancer (UltraPhase 2).
T winDos 21 Inserting cartridges/containers Keep filled containers or car‐ tridges out of the reach of childr en. Observe the instructions for use and warning instructions given by the de‐ ter gent manufacturer . Pr ess the T winDos container access panel.
T winDos 22 Push the Ultr aPhase 1 cartridge into Compartment 1 until it locks into po‐ sition. Remove container 2 and push the UltraPhase 2 cartridge into Com‐ partment 2 until it locks into position. Keep the containers in a safe place. They can be used for other types of deter gent.
T winDos 23 Open the Settings menu Y ou have to ent er the type of deter‐ gent being used in the Settings menu. Switch on the washing machine and wait until the standard display lights up.
T winDos 24 Dosage amount 60 ml Normally soiled Tip: If you live in an area with water hardness levels I ( ) or III ( ), adjust the dosage for Miele products accor d‐ ing to the information given on the packaging. Use the OK sensor to confirm the dosage amount or use the and sensors to change the amount.
T winDos 25 Running the first progr amme The T winDos system needs to be primed before you can use the wash‐ ing machine. T o do this you must run a wash pro‐ gramme without laun dr y . Open the stopcock. T urn the progr amme selector to Cot‐ tons .
W ashing environmentally and economically 26 Energy and water consumption – Wat er consumption and energy us‐ age are det ermined by the size of the load. T o make the most of your machine, load the maximum dry load for the progr amme you are using.
W ashing environmentally and economically 27 EcoF eedback Y ou can call up information about the energy and wat er consumption of your washing machine with the EcoF eed‐ back sensor . The following information will appear in the display: – an estimate of the consumption be‐ fore the pr ogramme begins.
1. Pr epare the laundry 28 Empty all pockets. F oreign objects (e.g. nails, coins, paper clips, etc.) can cause damage to garments and to components in the machine. Sort the laundry Sort the laundry by colour and by care label. Most garments have a t ex‐ tile care label in the collar or side seam.
2. Select a progr amme 29 Switch on the washing ma‐ chine Pr ess the button. The interior drum lighting will come on. The drum lighting will go out automati‐ cally after five minutes. P ress the Start/Stop b utton to switch the drum lighting back on again.
3. L oad the washing machine 30 Open the door Reach under the door grip and pull the door open. Unfold the laundry and load loosely into the drum. Mixing both large and small it ems gives better wash r esults and also helps distribute the load evenly during spinning.
4. Select progr amme settings 31 Degree of soiling Lightly soiled No visible dirt or stains. P ossibly slight body odour . Normally soiled Visibly dirty and/or just a few slight stains.
4. Select progr amme settings 32 Selecting a spin speed Y ou can alter the pr e-set spin speed of a wash progr amme. Pr ess the Spin speed button. The following will appear in the display: Spin speed 1600 rpm rpm ) (0-1600 Set the spin speed you want with the and sensors and confirm your selection with the OK sensor .
5. Add detergent 33 There ar e several options for adding de‐ ter gent. T winDos Depending on which agents have been added in Compartments 1 and 2: Miele 2 Phase System The optimum amount of UltraPhase1 and UltraPhase2 will be dispensed au‐ tomatically accor ding to the colour mix of the load.
5. Add detergent 34 Detergent dispenser dr awer T oo little deter gent results in: – Laundry not getting properly clean and with time it may become grey and hard t o the touch. – Greasy particles clinging to laundry . – Limescale deposits on the heater ele‐ ments.
5. Add detergent 35 CapDosing Three differ ent types of capsule are available: = F abric care (e.g. fabric condi‐ tioner , proofing agent) = Additives (e.g. det ergent en‐ hancers) = Det ergent (for the main wash only) Each capsule contains the correct amount for one wash cycle.
5. Add detergent 36 Close the lid and press it firmly shut. Close the deter gent dispenser draw‐ er . The capsule is opened by the act of inserting it in the detergent dispenser drawer . The contents can run out of the capsule if you then remove it from the dr awer before it is used.
6. Start the progr amme - the end of a programme 37 Start the progr amme Pr ess the flashing Start/Stop butt on. The door will lock (the will appear in the display to show this) and the pr o‐ gramme will start. If a delay start time has been selected, then this will count down in the display .

Spinning 40 T o omit the final spin (Rinse hold) Use the F urther options button to se‐ lect the Rinse hold setting. The laundry is not spun after the final rinse and remains in the final rinse wat er . This helps prevent cr easing if the laundry is not going to be r emoved from the drum immediately after the end of the progr amme.
Delay start 41 With delay start you can choose when you want the progr amme to start. Y ou can delay the start of the progr amme from 15 minut es up to a maximum of 24 hours, allowing you to make use of night-time economy electricity rat es, for example.

Mixed items 53 Compiling the list of items Use this progr amme if you do not have enough laundry to run a standard pr o‐ gramme but you want t o wash a few lightly soiled items with differ ent gar‐ ment care instructions. The washing machine will use the list of items to select the most suitable pr o‐ gramme aut omatically .
Options 54 Options are select ed and deselected via the relevant butt ons and the display . Pr ess the button for the option you want. The relevant butt on will light up. Not all options are suitable for use with every progr amme. Y ou can only select options which are compatible with the progr amme being used.
Options 55 Steam smoothing Steam is inject ed into the drum at the end of the wash process. Reducing the maximum load by 50% will give a bet‐ ter r esult. F or steam smoothing to work properly ther e needs to be a certain amount of residual moistur e still present in the laundry and so the final spin speed is adjusted accor dingly .

Detergent 68 F abric conditioner and liquid starch at the end of the pro‐ gramme Y ou can dispense fabric conditioner ei‐ ther by using automatic dispensing or via the deter gent dispenser compart‐ ment. Automatic dispensing One of the automatic dispensing con‐ tainers must be filled with fabric condi‐ tioner .
Detergent 69 Colour run and dye removers/dyes Do not use colour run or dye re‐ movers in this washing machine. They can cause corrosion in the ma‐ chine.
Cleaning and care 70 Cleaning the drum (Hygiene info) Washing at low t emperatures and/or using liquid deter gent can cause bacte‐ ria and unpleasant odours to build up in the washing machine. Use the Mainte‐ nance wash progr amme to clean the machine.
Cleaning and care 71 Cleaning the siphon tube and the channel Clean the siphon. 1. Remove the siphon from the com‐ partment and rinse under hot running water . Clean the siphon tube at the same time. 2. Replace the siphon. Clean the fabric conditioner channel with a brush and hot water .
Cleaning and care 72 Cleaning the T winDos system The washing machine has a cleaning progr amme for cleaning the T win Dos system containers and the hoses in‐ side the washing machine.
Cleaning and care 73 Cleaning the water inlet filter The washing machine has a filter to prot ect the water inlet valve. The acces‐ sible filter in the union at the open end of the inlet hose should be checked ev‐ ery six months or so, or more often if there ar e frequent interruptions t o the water supply .
Pr oblem solving guide 74 Minor faults in the performance of the washing machine, some of which may result from incorr ect operation, can be put right without contacting the Service Depart‐ ment. The following guide may help you to find the r eason for a fault, and to correct it.

Blocked dr ain outlet If the drain outlet is block ed, a large quantity of water can r emain in the washing machine.
Pr oblem solving guide 84 Clean them thoroughly . Remove any foreign objects (e.g. but‐ tons, coins, etc.) and fluff fr om the fil‐ ter housing. T urn the impellers by hand to check that they r otate freely . Replace the drain filt ers correctly (on the right and left) and tighten them securely .

Installation and connection 88 Installation surface A concret e floor is the most suitable in‐ stallation surface for a washing ma‐ chine, being far less prone t o vibration during the spin cycle than wooden floorboards or a carpet ed surface. Please note: The machine must be level and se‐ curely positioned.
Installation and connection 89 Using the spanner supplied, turn the left-hand transit bar 90°, then pull the transit bar out. T urn the right-hand transit bar 90°, then pull the transit bar out.
Installation and connection 90 T o avoid the risk of injury, the holes for the transit bars must be covered aft er the transit bars have been removed. Plug the holes with the plastic caps as illustrat ed. Secure the tr ansit bars to the back of the washing machine.
Installation and connection 91 Levelling the machine The washing machine must stand per‐ fectly level on all four feet to ensur e safe and proper oper ation. Incorrect installation may incr ease elec‐ tricity and water consumption and may cause the machine to move about.
Installation and connection 92 Building under a continuous work‐ top/ in a kitchen run The washing machine lid cannot be removed. This washing machine (with lid intact) can be pushed under a worktop if ther e is space to do so. Washer -dryer stack The washing machine can be combined with a Miele tumble dryer in a washer- dryer stack.
Installation and connection 93 The water protection syst em The Miele water pr otection system pr o‐ tects all parts of the washing machine from wat er damage.
Installation and connection 94 The electronic unit and dr ainage and overflow protection – Drainage pr otection Any leaking water is collected in the sump in the base of the machine.
Installation and connection 95 Connection to the water sup‐ ply The casing on the water inlet hose contains electrical compo‐ nents. It must not be connected in areas wher e there is the risk of water or other liquids reaching it, e.g. bath‐ rooms.
Installation and connection 96 Maintenance Only use a Miele Wat erproof system hose should you need a replacement. Disconnect the machine from the elec‐ tricity supply before unscr ewing the wa‐ terpr oof system inlet hose from the stopcock.
Installation and connection 97 Connection to the dr ainage system The machine drains via a dr ain pump with a delivery head of 1 metre*. The drain hose must not be kink ed as this restricts dr ainage. The swivel elbow at the end of the hose can be turned in ei‐ ther direction, or can be detached if r e‐ quired, with a sharp twist and pull.
Installation and connection 98 Electrical connection U .K. All electrical work should be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person, in strict accordance with cur‐ rent national and local safety r egula‐ tions (BS 7671 in the UK).

Settings 102 Y ou can use the settings menu to alt er the machine's electronics t o suit changing requir ements. Settings can be alter ed at any time. Opening the Settings menu Before you begin, ensur e that: – The washing machine is switched on.
Settings 103 Language The display can be set to appear in one of several differ ent languages. The flag after the wor d Language acts as a guide to pr event a language which will not be understood fr om be‐ ing set. The selected language will be stor ed in memory .
Settings 104 Buzzer volume Y ou can select one of seven differ ent settings for the buzzer volume. The settings are r epresented by a bar chart. At the lowest setting, the buzzer is switched off. K eypad tone Each touch of a sensor or pr ess of a button is confirmed with an audible tone.
Settings 105 T emperature unit The temper ature can be displayed as degrees Celsius (°C) or F ahrenheit (°F). F actory default setting: Celsius (°C). Display brightness There ar e seven different display brightness settings. The brightness changes as soon as you select a different setting.
Settings 106 Soak duration Y ou can set a dur ation for the soak process of between 30 minut es and 5 hours. Y ou can select the dur ation in 30 mi‐ nute incr ements. When the Soak option is selected the laundry will be soaked for the duration select ed.
Settings 107 Maximum rinse level The water level in the rinse cycle can be permanently set to the highest val‐ ue. This function is useful for allergy suffer‐ ers as it achieves an ex cellent rinse re‐ sult. Wat er consumption will increase. F actory default setting: the maximum rinse level setting is switched off.
