1 1. Introduction 1.1 Product Introduction Thank you for purchasing and using ou r print se rver. This print server allows your printer to become a sh ared device on the network. It offers printing flexibility and manageability on your Local Area Network at an extremely low cost and with an absolute minimum setup and maintenan ce required.
2 1.2 Network Printing Architecture This section illustrates how print se rver functions and operates o n the network. Before you install and use print serve r, it is strongly recommended that you rea.

7 1.3 Network Printing Environment Common network environ ment are classified as following: Windows Peer-to-Peer Net work The client’s PTPP driver will use TCP /IP protocol to print through p ri nt server. Windows NT/2000/2003 Network Network printing function will become available after P TPP driver is installed into Windows NT/2000/2003.

10 1.5 Firmware & Printing Function The print server provides a complete net work printing solution. The feature set is listed below: PTPP (Peer-to-Peer-Printi ng) TCP/IP (LPR) IPP Printing NetWar.
11 2. Hardware Inst allation Unpack the print server package and ve ri fy that all the items listed in the section 1.2 are provided. Connect the print server to the printer you want to sh are on the network. Connect the print server to your netwo rk by attached the network cable to the UTP port of the print server.
12 3. Peer-to-Peer Network 3.1 System Architecture Print server supports Wi nd ows Peer-to-Peer net wo rk printing mode, which is suitable for most medium and small network e nvironment s. Through quick and simple installation proced ur e, use rs can immediately enjoy the convenience of network printing.
13 servers into Windows’ printing port (ref er to Net work Printing Architecture in section 1.4 for more detailed information). 3.2 Administrator Installation and Setup The Administrator Installation ca n be pe rformed on Windows 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 with the same user interface.
14 Click “Next” to install the utilities in the default folder or click “Browse” to specify the destination folder where yo u would like to install the utilities.
15 Select the components you want to install. It is highly reco mmended to install all provided components. Click “Next” to contin ue. Specify the program folder where the pro gram i cons will be added to, click “Next”.
16 The system will start to inst all the utilities automatically. You have completed the installation phase a nd prep are to configure the Print Server. The “Choose Print Server” will list all Print Servers within the network. Select the Print Server you would like to con figure and click “Next”.
17 NOTE 1: If this is the first time you configure the Print Server, the “Print Server Name” is the last 6-digit of MAC ID with prefix “PS”. Please check the MAC ID on the print server. NOTE 2: The list can only display the devices from the sam e manufacturer.
18 Specify the IP Address for the Print Se rver manually or click “Next” to keep default IP Address, i.e. 192.168.2.2. The configuration summary is displayed in the window. Now, you have completed the “Print Server Setup”. Click “Finish” and your system will add network port of the Print Serv er to your PC auto matically.
19 The Administrator Installati on procedure is totally completed. Cli ck “Finish”. The Administrator Installation Program h ave executed the installation procedure that performs the following tasks: Install all utilities and drivers to the administrator’s PC.
20 3.3 Administrator Utilities After Administrator Installation is comp leted, there will be four utilities in print server’s Program folder. Network Ports Quick Setup – Add the n e twork ports of print servers within the network to your PC.
21 3.4 Client Installation and Setup The Client Installation can be performe d on Windows 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 with the same user interface. Befo re the installation procedure, please confir m that your PC has connected t o the network and installed at least one n etwork protocol.
22 Click “Next” to install the utilities in the default folder or click “Browse” to specify the destination folder where yo u would like to install the utilities.
23 Specify the program folder where the pro gram i cons will be added to, click “Next”. The system will start to inst all the utilities automatically.
24 Now, the installation procedure i s co mp l eted, you are ready to set up the client’s computer. All network port s of the Print Servers detected on the network will be added to your PC autom atically, click “Continue”.
25 After the installation, you have completed the following tasks: Install all utilities and driv ers to the client’s PC. Add all the print server’s network po rt s of the network to the client’s PC. You can then perform the Windows’ st andard “Add P rinter” procedure to add network printers to your PC.
26 3.5 Client Utilities After Client Installation is completed, there will be three tools in print server’s Program folder. Network Port s Quick Setu p Remote Ports Uninstall Network Driver The Uninstall Network Driver will assist you in removi ng all installed client software.
27 3.5.1 Network Ports Quick Setup Network Ports Quick Setu p Utility offers a very simple method to add or remove print server’s printer port from the clie nt’s co mputer.
28 Please be aware that Network Ports Quick Setup Utility can only detect and configure all print servers on the same netwo rk, it cannot search an d configure print servers on other su bnets across network segments. You must use Remote Ports Utility described in the next section to man age remote (across n etwork segment s) print serve rs.
29 3.5.2 Remote Ports (Utility) Remote Ports Utility offers a convenient way for you to manage an d add printer port of the remote print server. From the assistant of this utility, you can print to other print servers outside the subnet across network segment.
30 Step3. The new remote print port is displayed as follows. In order to use the remote printing fu nction, you will have to proceed with normal Add Printer procedure and sel ect your printer port as the newly added remote printer port.
31 3.6 Windows Add Printer Procedure After adding a “ Net work Port ” of the print server to your PC by Administrator or Client Installation Program, you can follow the p ro ced ure described below to add pri nter to the Wi ndows.
32 Step5. Choose the suitable “ Print Server Network Port ” which was created by the Administrator Installation or Client Installation process and clic k “ Next ”.
33 Step6. Select a suitable printer manufacturer a nd the printe r model and click “ Next ”. If your printer is not in the list, click “ Have Disk… ” to install the driver of the printer. After installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
34 Step8. Choose to print the test page or not. It is recommended to print a test page. Click “ Next ”. Step9. You have added the printer to the PC successfully.
35 4. Windows NT/2000/2003 4.1 System Architecture In Windows network environment, ot her than the Peer-to-Pee r net work printing architecture descri bed in the previous chapter, we also offer the Server-Based Printing architecture for Windo ws NT/2000/2003 server.
36 4.2 Installation and Setup Please follow the procedures described below for installation and construct a peer-to-peer connection (P TPP) between Windows NT/2000/2003 Server and Print Server. Step1. If this is your first time installi ng print server, please install the administrator software on Windows NT/ 2000/2003 server first.
37 4.3 User Installation and Setup After server side’s installation is comp leted, client side will be able t o find the server’s shared printer in Ne twork Neighborh ood.
38 5. NetW are Network 5.1 System Architecture We implement NetWare printer sh ari ng functionality into the print server itself, thus allowing one or more printers attached by a print se rver to be connected to the network. We have developed the pri nt serve r to suppo rt NetWare print server.
39 Relieve the need of a workstation ru nning the remote printe r utility. Improve productivity by locati ng the printer near the workgroup. Each print server should log into a NetWare serve r be fore se rvicing the print jobs. Each print server will occu py a user account with which it can log into the NetWare server.
40 6. You have now successfully creat ed the print queue that your print server will serve. Press the Escape key until the Available Options main menu is displayed. 7. Select Print Server Information. 8. Press the Insert key to add a new NetWare print server object.
41 9. Press Enter t o select t he newly created print server. 10. Select Print Server Configuration. 11. Select Printer Configuration. 12. Select Printer 0 (or Printer 1, Printer 2), and press En ter, then sele ct LPT1 (or LPT2, LPT3) in the Type field.
42 16. Repeatedly press Escape to exit the PCONSOLE program. 17. Reset the print server to have the changes ta ke effect. NOTE: If the print server you have is wi th multiple printer co nnectors, you may create multiple print queues an d printer objects.
43 6. UNIX System Network 6.1 Introduction The print server is available for TCP/IP printing by Unix LPD (Line Printer Daemon) protocol. The LP D protocol originated with Unix rele ase is ba sed on the BSD version of Unix and suppo rte d under most versions of Unix.
44 6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a uniqu e IP addre ss in order to be recognized by the network. You can set up the IP address on the various Unix sy stems using any one of the following methods: 1. DHCP (Dynamic Host C onfigur ation Protocol) 2.
45 1. Optionally, assign a name corresponding to the print serve r ’ s IP address. You can add this address to t he /etc/hosts file, by adding a line such as: 203.
46 6.4 Verify Print Server’s IP Address To verify that your print server is responding to the newly assigned IP address using a PING command: ping ip-address 6.5 Remote LPD Printing on the Host The procedure you use to configure your Unix host(s) to allow printing to your network remote print server varie s between different varieties of Unix.

48 7. Configuration Utility 7.1 Introduction This chapter introduce s print server ’s system configuration utility in Windows environment. This utility is automatically installed during Windows Administrator Utility installation procedure - refer to section 3.
49 7.2 Search for All Available Print Server Every time when you run print server ’s configuration utility, click the “Search” icon on the tool bar. The configuration utility will delay for several seconds because the utility is using system’s available network protocols to search for all print serv ers o n the netwo rk.
50 7.3 Status of Print Server Click “ Status ” icon on the tool bar, the status of the current selected print server will be showed on t he right side of the window.
51 7.4 Setup the Print Server Click “ Setup ” icon on the tool bar, the setup items of the current selected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click one of the icons to set up t he selected print server. A screen will pop up to verify “ User Name ” and “ Password ” of the print server.
52 7.5 General Configuration Double Click “General” ico n and the General configuration window will pop-up. You can see basic print se rver inform ation in this page. You also can configure the “Server Name”, “U se r Name” and “Password ” here.
53 7.6 TCP/IP Configuration.
54 Double Click “TCP/IP” icon and the TC P /IP configuration window will pop- up. You can configure the print serve r to automatically get IP from DHCP server or manually specify static IP. The print server also has a built-in DHCP server. You can enabl e this DHCP server an d let it manages IP for you.
55 7.7 Netware Print Server Configuration Double Click “Net Ware” icon and the NetWa re configuratio n window will pop-up. This print server supports NetWar e Bindery Printing method. The print server periodically polls the NetWa re server printer queues for pri nting jobs.
56 7.8 AppleTalk Configuration Double Click “AppleTalk” icon and the A ppleTalk configuration win dow will pop-up. AppleTalk is a data comm unication prot ocol often used by Macintoshes. The print server can use these p arameters to join the AppleTalk net work and share the printer to other AppleT alk workstation s.
57 7.9 SNMP Configuration Double Click “SNMP” i con and the SNM P configuration window will pop up. Contact: You can enter the print server administ rator’s contact information here. This information will be displayed i n the SNMP management tool.
58 7.10 SMB Configuration SMB Group Name, the name of SMB group that this print server b elongs to. All PC should join the same group before they can use this print server by SMB protocol.
59 7.11 System Configuration Double Click “System” i con and the System configuration win dow will pop- up. In the System configuration page, y ou can select to enable/di sable each printing or management protocol, upgra de the ne w firmware for this print server, and load factory defaults to the print server.
60 7.12 Wizard Click “Wizard” icon on the tool bar, the setup wizard item of the current selected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click the “Print Server Set up Wizard” the setup wizard will guide you through all the setup process.
61 Step 1: Set up the name of this print server. Step 2: Select to enable required printing protocol. Please refer to se ction 7.11 for detail information.
62 Step 3: Setup the IP of this print server and the DHCP server. Please refer to section 7.6 for detail information. Step 4: Setup the AppleTalk printing.
63 Step 5: Setup the NetWare printing. Please refer to section 7.7 for d etail information. Step 6: Click “Save” to finish setting. Please reboot the print server to let these settings take effect.
64 7.13 Report Click “Report” icon on the tool bar, the Report window will pop up. The report lists basic information of all available p rin t servers on the network. The information includ es Device Name, MAC ID, Model Type and Firmware Version of the print se rver.
65 8. W eb Management 8.1 Introduction Print server can be configured and managed on the Web. Th rough Local Area Network, or even Internet, admin istrator can easi ly configure a nd manage print server’s various main fun ct ions in browsers.
66 8.3 Device Status 8.3.1 System System Information includes “ Dev i ce Name ”, “ Print Server Name ”, “ Model Type ”, “ Firmware Version ”, “ MAC Address ” and the prot ocols enabled status, etc.

68 8.3.3 TCP/IP This page lists all TCP/IP settings of the print server includi ng “ IP Address ”, “ Subnet Mask ” and “ Gate w ay ”. It also lists DHCP server setting.

70 8.3.5 SNMP This page lists the SNMP settings of the print server. It includes the settings of “ SNMP Sy stem Contact ” and “ SNMP Sy stem Location ”.

73 8.4 Setup Wizard 8.4.1 System You can change the print server name and pa sswo rd of the print server from here. Print Server Name, the name of the pr int server. You can use this name to identify the print server when you are searching for the print se rver by the administration and client utilities.
74 8.4.1.1 Advanced Settings You can enable/disable the printing prot ocol s from the screen. To enable the function, please select “ Enable ”; to disable the function, ple ase sele ct “ Disable ”.
75 8.4.2 TCP/IP You can configure the print serve r to automatically get IP from DHCP server or manually specify static IP. The print server also has a built-in DHCP server.
76 8.4.3 SMB You can enable/disable the SMB protocol from here. If SMB is enabled, enter the “ SMB Group Name ” to specify the SMB group that this print server belongs to. All PC should join the same group before they can use this print server by SMB protocol.
77 8.4.4 SNMP The print server suppo rts S NMP configuration. If it is enabled, please set up the following parameters. SNMP System Contact : You can enter t he print server administrator’s contact information here. This inform ation will be displayed in the SNMP management tool.
78 8.4.5 NetWare This print server supports NetWar e Bindery Printing method. The print server periodically polls the NetWa re server printer queues for pri nting jobs. You have to assign the NetWare se rver name, print server polling interval and the name of queue on the NetWare se rver for each printer port.
79 8.4.6 AppleTalk AppleTalk is a data comm unication prot ocol often used by Macintoshes. The print server can use these p arameters to join the AppleTalk net work and share the printer to other AppleTal k workstation s.

81 8.5 System Tools 8.5.1 Load Default You can use this page to restore th e fact ory default settings. All of your previous setup will be cleared..
82 8.5.2 Upgrade Firmware from Browser You can upgrade new firm ware for this print server in this page. Click “ Browse ” to select the ne w firmware in your storage and then click “ OK ”, the firmware will be updated in several minutes.
83 9. IPP Printing 9.1 Introduction IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) Printing provides a convenient way o f remote printing service by TCP/IP . The print server can support IPP printing by default. It is needless to do any setting. Any PC that can support IPP printing, for example Wi ndows 2 000/XP, can directly use the print server by IP.
84 Step4. Select “ A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer ”. Click “ Next ”..
85 Step5. Select “ Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network ” and enter the URL of print serve r. Th e URL format is “ http://IP:631/Port Name ”. The IP should be the print server’s IP. The number 631 is IPP standard port number.

87 Step8. You have added the network pr inter to the PC successfully. The information of the printer is di splayed in the windows. Click “ Finish ”.
88 10. Windows XP SP2 Setup In Windows XP SP2, XP SP2’s firewall would blo ck the unknown communications. Thi s print server has allowe d the co mmunications data passed through the XP SP2’s firewall.
