1 1. Introduction 1.1 Product Introduction Thank you for purchasing and usi ng ou r print server. This print se rver allows your printer to become a sh ared devic e on the network. It offers printing flexibility and manageability on your Local Area Network at an extremely low cost and with an absolute minimum setup and mai ntenance required.
2 1.2 Network Printing Architecture This section illustrates ho w print server functions a nd operates on the network. Before you install and u se print server, it is strongly recommended that you rea.

7 1.3 Network Printing Environment Common network envi ronment are classified a s follo wing: Windows Peer-to-Peer Network The client’s PTPP driver wi ll use TCP /IP protocol to pri nt through p ri nt server. 10 1.5 Firmware & Printing Function The print server provide s a compl ete network printing solutio n. The feature set is listed below: PTPP (Peer-to-Peer-P rinting) TCP/IP (LPR) IPP Printing NetW.
11 2. Hardware Inst allation Unpack the print server pa ckage a nd veri fy that all the items listed in the section 1.2 are provided. Connect the print server to the printer yo u want to share on the network. Connect the print server to your netwo rk by attached the network cable to the UTP port of the print server.
12 3. Peer-to-Peer Network 3.1 System Architecture Print server supports Wi nd ows Peer-to-Peer netwo rk printing mode, which is suitable for most medium and small netwo rk environments. Through quick and simple installation pro cedur e, users can immediately enj oy the convenience of network pri nting.
13 servers into Windows’ pri nting port (ref er to Network Printing Architecture in section 1.4 for more detailed informat ion). 3.2 Administrator Installation and Setup The Administrator Installati on ca n be performed on Windo ws 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 with the same u se r in terface.
14 Click “Next” to install the utilities in the default folder or click “Browse” to specify the destination folder where yo u would like to install the utilities.
15 Select the components you want to inst all. It is highly recommended to install all provided components. Click “Next” to continue. Specify the program folder where the p rogram icons will be adde d to, click “Next”.
16 The system will start to inst all the utilities automatically. You have completed the installation ph ase and prepare to configure the Print Server. The “Choose Print Server” will list all Print Servers within the network. Select the Print Server you wo uld like to configure and click “Next”.
17 NOTE 1: If this is the first time you configure the Print Server, the “Print Server Name” is the last 6-digit of MAC ID with prefix “PS”. Please check the MAC ID on the print server. NOTE 2: The list can only display the device s from the same manufacturer.
18 Specify the IP Address for the Print Se rver manually or click “Next” to keep default IP Address, i.e. 192.168.2.2. The configuration summ ary is displayed i n the window. Now, you have completed the “Print Server Setup”. Click “Finish” and your system will add network port of the Pri nt Serv er to your PC a utomatically.
19 The Administrator In stallation procedure is totally completed. Click “Finish”. The Administrator Installation Prog ram have executed the installatio n procedure that performs the followi ng tasks: Install all utilities and drivers to the administrator’s PC.
20 3.3 Administrator Utilities After Administrator Installation is comp leted, there will be four utilities in print server’s Program fold er. Network Ports Quick Setu p – Add the network ports of print se rvers within the network to your PC.
21 3.4 Client Installation and Setup The Client Installation can be perfo rmed on Windows 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 with the same u se r in terface. Befo re the installation procedure, please confir m that your PC has conne cted to the network and installe d at least one network protocol.
22 Click “Next” to install the utilities in the default folder or click “Browse” to specify the destination folder where yo u would like to install the utilities.
23 Specify the program folder where the p rogram icons will be adde d to, click “Next”. The system will start to inst all the utilities automatically.
24 Now, the installation proce dure i s comp leted, you are ready to set u p the client’s computer. All network p orts of the Print Servers detected on the network will be adde d to your PC automatically, click “Continue ”.
25 After the installation, you have completed the followi ng tasks: Install all utilities and driv ers to the client’s PC. Add all the print server’s ne t work po rt s of the network to the client’s PC. You can then perform the Windows’ st a ndard “Add Printer” procedure to add network printe rs to yo ur PC.
26 3.5 Client Utilities After Client Installation is completed, there will be three tools in print server’s Program folder. Network P ort s Quick Set up Remote Ports Uninstall Network Driver The Uninstall Network Driver will assi st you in removing all installed client software.
27 3.5.1 Network Ports Quick Setup Network Ports Qui ck Setup Utility offers a very simple method to add or remove print server’s printer po rt from the clie nt’s computer.
28 Please be aware that Network Ports Qui ck Setup Utility can only detect and configure all print servers o n the sa me netwo rk, it cannot search and configure print servers on o ther subnets across net work segm ents. You must use Remote Ports Utility descri bed in the next section to manage remote (acro ss network segments) pri nt server s.
29 3.5.2 Remote Ports (Utility) Remote Ports Utility offers a convenient way for you to manag e an d add printer port of the remote print server. From the assistant of this utility, you can print to other print servers outside the subnet across network segment.
30 Step3. The new remote print port is displayed as follows. In order to use the remote printing fu nction, you will have to proceed with normal Add Printer procedure an d select your printer port as the ne wly added remote printer port.
31 3.6 Windows Add Printer Procedure After adding a “ Net work Port ” of the print server to your PC by Administrator or Client Installation Program, you can f ollow the p rocedure described below to add p rinter to the Windows.
32 Step5. Choose the suitable “ Print Server Net work Port ” which was created by the Administrator Installation or Client Inst allation process a nd click “ Next ”.
33 Step6. Select a suitable printer manuf acturer a nd the printer model and click “ Next ”. I f your printer is not in the list, click “ Have Disk… ” to install the driver of the printer. After installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
34 Step8. Choose to print the test page or not. It is recommended to print a test page. Click “ Next ”. Step9. You have added the printer to the PC successfully.
35 4. Windows NT/2000/2003 4.1 System Architecture In Windows network environment, ot her than the Peer-to-Pee r network printing architecture de scribed in the previous chapter , we also offer the Server-Based Printing architecture for Wi ndows NT/2000/200 3 server.
36 4.2 Installation and Setup Please follow the procedures de scrib ed below for installation and construct a peer-to-pee r conne ction (PTPP) between Wind ows NT/2000/2003 Server and Print Server. Step1. If this is your first time installi ng print server, please install the administrator software on Wind ows NT/2000/2003 se rver first.
37 4.3 User Installation and Setup After server side’s installation is comp leted, client side will be able t o find the server’s shared pri nter in Ne twork Neighborhood.
38 5. NetW are Network 5.1 System Architecture We implement NetWare pri nter sharing functionality into the print se rver itself, thus allowing one or more printe rs attached by a print server to be connected to the network. We have d eveloped the print server to support NetWare print server.
39 Relieve the need of a workstation ru nnin g the remote printer utility. Improve productivity by locati ng the printer near the workgroup. Each print server should lo g into a NetWare serve r before servicing the print jobs. Each print server will occu py a user account with which it can log into the NetWare server.
40 6. You have now successfull y creat ed the print queue th at your print server will serve. Press the Escape key until the Available Options main menu is displayed. 7. Select Print Server Information. 8. Press the Insert key to add a new NetWare print server object.
41 9. Press Ent e r t o select t he n ewly created print server. 10. Select Print Server Configuration. 11. Select Printer Configuration. 12. Select Printer 0 (or Printer 1, Printer 2), and press Enter, then select LPT1 (or LPT2, LPT3) in the Type field.
42 16. Repeatedly press Escape to exit the PCONSOLE pro gram. 17. Reset the print server to have the chan ges take effect. NOTE: If the print server you have is wi th multiple pri nter co nnectors, you may create multiple print queue s and printer objects.
43 6. UNIX System Network 6.1 Introduction The print server is availa ble for TCP/IP printing by Unix LPD (Line Printer Daemon) prot ocol. The LPD protocol ori ginated with Unix release is based on the BSD version of Unix and su ppo rted under most versio ns of Unix.
44 6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server mu st have a unique IP address in order to be re cognized by the network. You can set up the IP address on the variou s Unix sy stems using any one of the following methods: 1. DHCP (Dynamic Ho st Configuration Protocol) 2.
45 1. Optionally, assign a name correspondin g to the print server ’ s IP address. You can add this addre ss to t he /etc/hosts file, by adding a line such as: 203.
46 6.4 Verify Print Server’s IP Address To verify that your print server is responding to the newly assigned IP address using a PING command: ping ip-address 6.5 Remote LPD Printing on the Host The procedure you use to configure you r Unix host(s) to allow printing to your network remote print serve r varies between different varieties of Unix.

48 7. Configuration Utility 7.1 Introduction This chapter introdu ces print serve r ’s system configuration utility in Windows environment. This utility is automatically installed during Windows Administrator Utility installation procedure - refer to secti on 3.
49 7.2 Search for All Available Print Server Every time when you run print server ’s configuration u t ility, click the “Search” icon on the tool bar. The configuration utility will delay for several seconds because the utility is using system’s available net work protocols to search for all print serv ers o n the network.
50 7.3 Status of Print Server Click “ Status ” icon on the tool bar, the status of the current sele cted print server will be showed on t he right side of the window.
51 7.4 Setup the Print Server Click “ Setup ” icon on the tool bar, the setup items of the current selected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click one of the ico ns to set up t he selected print se rver. A screen will pop up to verify “ User Name ” and “ Pass w ord ” of the print server.
52 7.5 General Configuration Double Click “Gen eral” icon and the General configuration window will pop-up. You can see basi c pri nt se rver inform ation in this page. You also can configure the “Server Nam e”, “U ser Name” and “Pa ssword” here.
53 7.6 TCP/IP Configuration.
54 Double Click “TCP/IP” icon and the TC P/IP configuration windo w will pop- up. You can configure the print server to automatically get IP from DHCP server or manually sp ecify static IP. The print server also has a built -in DHCP server. You can enabl e this DHCP se rver and let it manages IP for you.
55 7.7 Netware Print Server Configuration Double Click “Net Ware” icon and the NetWare configuration wind ow will pop-up. This print server supports NetWar e Bindery Printing method. The print server periodically poll s the NetWare server printer qu eues for printing jobs.
56 7.8 AppleTalk Configuration Double Click “AppleT alk” icon and the AppleTalk conf iguratio n window will pop-up. AppleTalk is a data com m unication prot ocol often used by Macint oshes. The print server ca n use these parameters to join the AppleTal k network and share the printer to other AppleT alk workstations.
57 7.9 SNMP Configuration Double Click “SNMP” i con and the SNMP configu ratio n wind ow will pop up. Contact: You can enter the print server a dministrator’s contact information here. This information will be displayed i n the SNMP management tool.
58 7.10 SMB Configuration SMB Group Name, the name of SMB group that this print se rver belongs to. All PC should join the same group before they can use this pri nt serve r by SMB protocol.
59 7.11 System Configuration Double Click “System” i con and the System configuration window will pop- up. In the System configuration page, y ou can select to enable/di sable each printing or management protocol, up gra de the new firmware for this print server, and load factory defaults to the print server.
60 7.12 Wizard Click “Wizard” icon on the tool bar, the setup wizard item of the current selected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click the “Print Server Set up Wi zard” the setup wizard will guide you through all the setup proces s.
61 Step 1: Set up the name of this print server. Step 2: Select to enable required printing proto col. Please refer to section 7.11 for detail information.
62 Step 3: Setup the IP of this print server and the DHCP server. Please refer to section 7.6 for detail information. Step 4: Setup the AppleTalk printing.
63 Step 5: Setup the NetWare printing. Please refer to se ction 7.7 for detail information. Step 6: Click “Save” to finish setting. Please reboot the print server to let these settings take effec t.
64 7.13 Report Click “Report” icon on the tool bar, the Report window will pop up. The report lists basic info rmation of all available print servers on the network. The information in cludes Device Name, MAC ID, Model Type and Firmware Versio n of the print server.
65 8. W eb Management 8.1 Introduction Print server can be configured and man aged o n the Web. Through Local Area Network, or even Internet, admin istrator can e asi ly configure and manage print server’ s vario us main fun ctions in browsers.
66 8.3 Device Status 8.3.1 System System Information includes “ Dev ice Name ”, “ Print Server Name ”, “ Model Type ”, “ Firm ware Version ”, “ MAC Address ” and the prot ocols enabled status, etc.
67 8.3.2 Printer This page lists information of printer connected to the printer port..
68 8.3.3 TCP/IP This page lists all TCP/IP settings of the print server in cludi ng “ IP Address ”, “ Subnet Mask ” and “ Gatew ay ”. It also lists DHCP server setting.

70 8.3.5 SNMP This page lists the SNMP settings of the print server. It includes the settings of “ SNMP Sy stem Contact ” an d “ SNMP Sy stem Location ”.
71 8.3.6 NetWare This page lists Net Wa re se ttings, inclu ding “ Polling Time ”, “ Use Bindery Mode ”, “ Name of the File Serv er ” and “ Port Attached Queue ”.
72 8.3.7 AppleTalk This page lists AppleTalk settings, including “ AppleTalk Zone Nam e ” and “ Printer Type ” of the printer co nnected to the print port.
73 8.4 Setup Wizard 8.4.1 System You can change the print server n ame and password of the print server from here. Print Server Name, the name of the pr int server. You can use thi s name to identify the print server when you are searching fo r the print server by the administration and client u t ilities.
74 8.4.1.1 Advanced Settings You can enable/disable the printing p rot ocols from the screen. To enabl e the function, please select “ Enable ”; to disable the fu nction, please select “ Disable ”.
75 8.4.2 TCP/IP You can configure the print server to automatically get IP from DHCP server or manually sp ecify static IP. The print server also has a built -in DHCP server.
76 8.4.3 SMB You can enable/disable the SMB protocol from here. If SMB is enabled, enter the “ SMB Group Name ” to specif y the SMB group that this print server belongs to. All PC should join the same g roup before they can use this print server by SMB protocol.
77 8.4.4 SNMP The print server su ppo rts SNMP configuration. If it is enabled, plea se set up the following parameters. SNMP System Conta ct : You can enter t he print server administrator’s contact information here. This inform ation will be displayed in the SNMP management tool.
78 8.4.5 NetWare This print server supports NetWar e Bindery Printing method. The print server periodically poll s the NetWare server printer qu eues for printing jobs. You have to assign th e NetWare server name, print server poll ing interval and the name of queue o n the NetWare server for each printer port.
79 8.4.6 AppleTalk AppleTalk is a data com m unication prot ocol often used by Macint oshes. The print server ca n use these parameters to join the AppleTal k network and share the printer to other AppleTal k workstations.

81 8.5 System Tools 8.5.1 Load Default You can use this page to re store the factory default settings. All of your previous setup will be cleared..
82 8.5.2 Upgrade Firmware from Browser You can upgrade ne w firm ware for this print server in this page. Cli ck “ Bro w se ” to select the ne w firmware in your storage and then click “ OK ”, the firmware will be updated in several minutes.
83 9. IPP Printing 9.1 Introduction IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) Printing provides a con v enient way of remote printing service by TCP/IP . The print server can support IPP printing by default. It is needless to do any setting. Any PC that can support IPP printing, for example Wi ndo ws 2000/XP, can directly use the print server by IP.
84 Step4. Select “ A network printer, or a printer attached to a nother computer ”. Click “ Next ”..
85 Step5. Select “ Connect to a printer on the Interne t or on a home or office net work ” and enter the URL of print serve r. The URL format is “ http://IP:631/Port Name ”. The IP should be the print server’s IP. The number 631 is IPP standard port nu mber.
86 Step7. Choose to set the print whethe r as a default printer or not. Click “ Next ”..
87 Step8. You have added the network pr inter to the PC successfully. The information of the printer is di splayed in the win do ws. Click “ Finish ”.
88 10. Windows XP SP2 Setup In Windows XP SP2, XP SP2’s firewall woul d block the un kno wn communicati ons. This print server h as a llowed the communication s data passed through the XP SP2’s firewall.
