Setting up the PT -80 4.1 Inst alling the Battery Pack CAUTION ! – Im proper installation of the rechargeable batte ry pack can cause the metal clips in the battery com partment to bend or break. Carefully read a nd follow the procedure below to install the battery pack.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 8 4.2 Charging the PT -80 Before using the PT-80 for the first time, charge the unit for at least 12 hours to fully charge the empty battery and in sure a proper cha rge.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 9 5. Initial Operation Note: Be sure that you have fully charged the battery bef ore turning the unit on. Inserting a CF card 1. Open the CF slot cover with a screw drive r. 2. Insert a correctly orie nted CF card. 3. Close the CF slot cover and fix the two screws.

Quick Re fe rence Guide 12 6. Flash Memory Flash memory offers a re-writable lo cation in which to store up to 128 MB of programs and data files. The benefit of this feature is that files and programs saved in Flash memory are unaffected by the PT-80 power statu s.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 13 7. Using the Keypad and Scanner Keypad The PT-80 keypad contai ns 23 keys, including Cursor key, 0-9, Alpha key, Power key, Function, Escape, Backspa ce, and Enter key. Please refer to the picture below. [Power] When the unit is off, press the power key to turn the unit on.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 14 Alpha Key When you power on the PT-80, the d efault is Numeric Mode on. Whe n you toggle to Alpha Mode, the default is CAPS mode off. Alpha Mode Press the Alpha key to enter Alph a Mode, the default is CAPS off. CAPS Press the Alpha key twice to toggle CAPS.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 15 Software Keyboard (Windows CE Keyboard) Since the PT-80 keypa d allows input of numeric chara cters only, the Windows CE Software prov ides a touc h screen keyboard for input of other characters. The Windows based keyboard repli cates the layout of a standard PC keyboard.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 16 Using the Scanner The PT-80 has an integrate d CCD scanner that provides excelle nt performance reading all major ba r code labels. The scan key is located in the middle of the unit. Press this key to activate the CCD scanner.

Quick Re fe rence Guide 18 8. Data Communication The PT-80 mobile comput er lets you link to a host computer through an RS-232/USB cable or throu gh the CRD-80 cradle for data communi cation.
Quick Re fe rence Guide 19 9. Power S tatus Indication Checking Battery Status The battery menu item shows the status of the main and backup batteries. Status bar icons indicate th e on-boa rd power status. No icon indicates there is no extern al power supply to the PT-80 but the battery power status is good.

If the “Low” or “Very Low” icon still displays after charging, please contact Argox Technical Support. 10. T roubleshooting If the screen is blank, or if t he unit fa ils to powe r on, charge the battery for 12 hours.
