Even a small amount of alcohol or drugs can affect your reflexes, perceptions and judgment.
Downhill gradients ! On long and steep gradients, you must reduce the load on the brakes by shifting early to a lower gear. This allows you to take advantage of the engine braking effect and helps avoid overheating and excessive wear of the brakes. When you take advantage of the engine braking effect, a drive wheel may not turn for some time, e.
properties of the vehicle can be degraded to an extent that safe braking is substantially impaired. This could result in an accident. ! Vehicles with 4MATIC: function or performance tests may only be carried out on a 2-axle dynamometer.
Driving on wet roads Hydroplaning If water has accumulated to a certain depth on the road surface, there is a danger of hydroplaning occurring, even if: R you drive at low speeds.
Driving systems Cruise control Important safety notes Cruise control maintains a constant road speed for you. It brakes automatically in order to avoid exceeding the set speed. On long and steep downhill gradients, especially if the vehicle is laden, you must select shift range 1 , 2 or 3 in good time.
Storing the current speed or calling up the last stored speed G WARNING The set speed stored in memory should only be set again if prevailing road conditions and legal speed limits permit. Possible acceleration or deceleration differences arising from returning to the preset speed could cause an accident and/or serious injury to you and others.
DISTRONIC PLUS brakes automatically so that the set speed is not exceeded. On long and steep downhill gradients, especially if the vehicle is laden, you must select shift range 1 , 2 or 3 in good time.
in front. DISTRONIC PLUS can only brake the vehicle using 40% of the vehicle's maximum available brake force. DISTRONIC PLUS may not detect narrow vehicles driving in front, e.g. motorcycles, or vehicles driving in the lane beyond the lane next to your vehicle, especially if the vehicles are not driving on the middle of their lane.
cluster is illuminated if the DISTRONIC PLUS system calculates that the distance to the vehicle ahead and your vehicle's current speed indicate that the DISTRONIC PLUS will not be capable of slowing the vehicle sufficiently to maintain the preset following distance, which creates a danger of a collision.
R the front-passenger door and rear doors must be closed. R the vehicle must not skid. Activating while driving When driving at speeds below 20 mph (30 km/h), you can only activate DISTRONIC PLUS if the vehicle in front has been detected and is shown in the multifunction display.
Changing lanes If you change to the passing lane, DISTRONIC PLUS supports you when: R you are driving faster than 40mph (60 km/h). R DISTRONIC PLUS is maintaining the distance to a vehicle in front. R you switch on the appropriate turn signal. R DISTRONIC PLUS does not detect a danger of collision.
Increase or decrease the set vehicle speed to a value that the prevailing road conditions and legal speed limits permit. Otherwise, sudden and unexpected acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle could cause an accident and/ or serious injury to you and others.
X To increase: turn control ; in direction = . DISTRONIC PLUS then maintains a greater distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front. X To decrease: turn control ; in direction : . DISTRONIC PLUS then maintains a shorter distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front.

indicator lamp goes out and Blind Spot Assist is operational. If a vehicle is detected within the monitoring range of Blind Spot Assist at speeds above 20 mph (30km/h), warning lamp : on the corresponding side lights up red. This warning is always emitted when a vehicle enters the blind spot monitoring range from behind or from the side.
The system may be impaired or may not function if: R there is poor visibility, e.g. due to insufficient illumination of the road, or due to snow, rain, fog or spray. R there is glare, e.g. from oncoming traffic, the sun, or reflection from other vehicles.
Active Blind Spot Assist Important safety notes Active Blind Spot Assist uses a radar sensor system to monitor the side areas of your vehicle which are in back of the driver. A warning display in the exterior mirrors draws your attention to vehicles detected in the monitored area.
If the lanes are very wide, it may not be possible to monitor the complete width of the neighboring lane. For this reason, vehicles in the next lane may not be detected, especially if they are driving in a staggered formation. This may be the case if vehicles are driving at that edge of their lane which is furthest away from your vehicle.
Visual and audible collision warnings If a vehicle is detected in the side monitoring range and you switch on the respective turn signals, you will receive a collision warning. You will hear a double warning tone and red warning lamp : flashes. If the turn signal remains on, vehicles detected are indicated by the flashing of red warning lamp : .
road and warns you before you leave your lane unintentionally. If you do not react to the warning, a lane-correcting application of the brakes can bring the vehicle back into the original lane.
R a driving safety system intervenes, e.g. ABS, BAS or ESP ® . R you switch on the turn signals. In this event, the warnings are suppressed for a certain period of time. Lane-correcting brake application If you leave your lane under certain circumstances the vehicle will brake briefly on one side.
Active Lane Keeping Assist does not detect traffic situations or road users. An inappropriate brake application may be interrupted at any time if you: R steer slightly in the opposite direction.
