37 Getting started Adjusting Folding front seat backrest forward 1 Release lever Folding backrest forward 왘 Lift release lever 1 and fold the seat backrest forward. The seat will automatically slide for- ward and the head restraint will move down. Folding backrests back 왘 Lift release lever 1 and fold backrest back.
38 Getting started Adjusting the respective backrest is not engaged in its lock. Carefully slow down, and drive with caution to an area which is in a safe distance from the roadway. Always provide sufficient room behind the backrest and fold the back- rest all the way back until it locks in place.

52 Getting started Driving Problems while driving The engine runs erratically and misfires 앫 An ignition cable may be damaged. 앫 The engine electronics may not be op- erating properly. 앫 Unburned gasoline may have entered the catalytic converter and damaged it.

61 Safety and Security Occupant safety Airbags Wa r n i n g ! G In the event that the 1 indicator lamp comes on during driving or does not come on at all, the SRS self-check has detected a malfunction.
62 Safety and Security Occupant safety 앫 Adjust the driver seat as far as possible rearward, still permitting proper opera- tion of vehicle controls. The distance from the center of the driver’s breast- bone to the center of the airbag cover on the steering wheel must be at least ten in (25 cm) or more.

78 Safety and Security Driving safety systems The - indicator lamp in the instrument cluster comes on when you turn the SmartKey in the starter switch to position 2 or press the KEYLESS-GO* start/stop button twice. It goes out when the engine is running.
79 Safety and Security Driving safety systems ESP The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) monitors the vehicle's traction (force of adhesive friction between the tires and the road surface) and handling. The ESP recognizes when a wheel is spin- ning or if the vehicle starts to skid.

81 Safety and Security Driving safety systems The switch is located on the center con- sole. 1 ESP on/ off 왘 Press ESP switch 1 until the ESP warning lamp v in the speedometer comes on. The ESP is deactivated. If one or more wheels are spinning, the ESP warning lamp v in the speedome- ter flashes, regardless of the speed.

83 Safety and Security Anti-theft systems Arming the alarm system The alarm system is armed after locking the vehicle with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO*.
84 Safety and Security Anti-theft systems Tow-away alarm Once the tow-away alarm is armed, a visual and audible alarm will be triggered when someone attempts to raise the vehicle. Arming tow-away alarm When you lock your vehicle, the tow-away alarm is automatically armed after about 30 seconds.
