In the event of an accident, your vehicle may collide with an- other object, e.g. another vehicle. This may cause your vehicle to accelerate or decelerate extremely quickly.
Airbags G Risk of injury Airbags provide additional protection; they are not, however, a substitute for the seat belts. To reduce the risk of serious or even fatal injuries, make sure that all occupan.

It is also possi- ble that airbags may be deployed even though the vehicle is only slightly de- formed if, for example, very rigid vehicle parts such as the longitudinal members are hit in an accident and the rate of de- celeration is sufficient.
within milliseconds or sudden braking, please observe the following points: I All vehicle occupants must select a seat position that allows the seat belt to be worn correctly and that is as far away from the airbag as possible. The driver's seat position must allow the vehicle to be driven safely.

The first 1,500 km If you treat the engine with sufficient care from the very start, it will reward you with excellent performance for a very long peri- od afterwards. I You should therefore drive at varying road and engine speeds for the first 1,500 km.
Refuelling Refuelling G Risk of explosion Fuel is highly flammable. Fire, naked flames and smoking are therefore prohibited when handling fuels. Switch off the engine before refuelling. G Risk of injury Do not allow fuel to come into contact with skin or clothing.
If the recommended fuel is not available and only as a temporary measure, you may also use regular unleaded petrol, 91 RON/82.5 MON. This may reduce performance and increase pet- rol consumption. Avoid driving at full throttle. In some countries, the available petrol quality may not be sufficient and could cause coking around the inlet valve.
If you use bio-diesel/vegetable oil or mix diesel with bio-diesel/vegetable oil, your warranty en- titlement will be restricted. Bio-diesel is some- times referred to as fatty acid methyl ester (FAME). Low outside temperatures The flow properties of diesel may be insuf- ficient at low ambient temperatures.
Vehicles with a petrol engine: The engine has an electronic ignition system which carries a high voltage. For this rea- son, you must never touch the ignition sys- tem components (ignition coil, ignit.
E Check that the bonnet has engaged properly. i If the bonnet can be raised slightly, it is not properly engaged. Open it again and close it with a little more force. Engine oil Depending on how it is driven, the vehicle consumes a maximum of 0.8 l oil per 1,000 km.

tions and different tyre deformation character- istics could cause the tyres to make contact with the bodywork and axle components. This could result in damage to the tyres or the ve- hicle. ! Retreaded tyres are neither tested nor rec- ommended by Mercedes-Benz, since previous damage cannot always be detected on re- treaded tyres.
Notes on driving I While driving, pay attention to vibra- tions, noises and unusual handling characteristics, e.g. pulling to one side. This may indicate that the wheels or tyres are damaged. If you suspect that a tyre is defective, reduce your speed and stop the vehicle as soon as possi- ble to check the wheels and tyres for damage.
Tyre pressures G Risk of accident Tyre pressure that is either too high or too low has a negative effect on the vehicle ’ s active safety, which could lead to you caus- ing an accident.
I snow chains are fitted to your vehicle's tyres I road conditions are wintry I you are driving on sand or gravel I you adopt a very sporty driving style (cornering at high speeds or driving with.

Winter driving Have your vehicle winterproofed at a quali- fied specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes- Benz Service Centre, at the onset of win- ter. This service includes the following: I The engine oil will be changed, if the current oil has not been approved for winter use.
I Snow chains cannot be fitted on all wheel/tyre combinations. I Snow chains cannot be fitted on emer- gency spare wheels, e.g. on a "Minispare" emergency spare wheel. I Fit snow chains on both rear wheels. Comply with the manufacturer's instal- lation instructions.
Downhill gradients On long and steep downhill gradients, es- pecially if the vehicle is laden or towing a trailer, you must shift to a lower gear in good time or select shift range 1 , 2 or 3 on vehicles with automatic transmission*. i This also applies if you have activated cruise control or Speedtronic*.
brake linings is removed without putting other road users at risk. I maintain a greater distance to the ve- hicle ahead and drive with particular care. I carefully apply the brakes at the end of a trip and immediately after commencing a new trip, so that salt residues are re- moved from the brake disc.
Driving abroad An extensive Mercedes-Benz Service net- work is also available in other countries. You can obtain the relevant workshop di- rectories from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Only low-octane fuel is available in certain countries. You can find further information about fuel grades on ( e page 193).

If you report this displayed infor- mation to a qualified specialist workshop, for example a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre, they can inform you of costs the service will incur.
Care Notes on care The value of your vehicle will be retained by regular and proper care. The best way to protect your vehicle from harmful envi- ronmental influences is to wash it and use protective treatments regularly. i It is advisable to use Mercedes-Benz care products.
duce wiping noises caused by residue on the windscreen. ! Make sure that the automatic car wash is suitable for the size of the vehicle. Fold in the exterior mirrors before the vehicle is washed. There is otherwise a risk of damage to the exte- rior mirrors.
