After an accident Problem Possible causes/consequences and M Solutions Fuel is leaking from the vehicle. G Risk of explosion or fire The fuel line or the fuel tank is faulty. X Immediately turn the SmartKey to position 0 ( Y page 149) in the ignition lock and remove it.
Vehicle tool kit Notes The vehicle tool kit can be found in the stowage well under the cargo compartment floor. i Vehicles are not equipped with the tools needed to change a wheel when they leave the factory, e.g. jack or lug wrench. Some tools for changing a wheel are specific to the vehicle.
: Lug wrench ; Electric air pump = Instructions on the installation position of the vehicle tool kit holder ? Fuse allocation chart A Alignment bolt B Folding wheel chock C Towing eye D Wheel bolts E .
i Fully deflating the tire can take a few minutes. X Screw the valve insert back into the valve. X Screw the valve cap back on. In the spare wheel well, there are two guides : to keep the collapsible spare wheel in place. X Lay collapsible spare wheel ; in the emergency spare wheel well.
X Vehicles without KEYLESS-GO: remove the key from the ignition lock. X Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: open the driver's door. The on-board electronics have status 0 , which is the same as the key having been removed. X Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: remove the Start/Stop button from the ignition lock ( Y page 149).
R If TIREFIT is swallowed, immediately rinse your mouth out thoroughly with water and drink plenty of water. R Do not induce vomiting. Consult a doctor immediately. R Do not inhale TIREFIT fumes. i If TIREFIT leaks out, allow it to dry. It can then be removed like a layer of film.
X Let the electric pump run for five minutes. The tire should then have attained a pressure of at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/ 26 psi). G Warning The air hose can become hot during inflation. Please exercise appropriate caution. ! Do not operate the electric air pump for longer than eight minutes at a time without a break.
If after five minutes a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) has not been achieved, see ( Y page 300). Tire pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/ 26 psi) is not achieved If after five minutes a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) has not been achieved: X Press the on/off switch on the electric air pump to 0 .
TIREFIT kit version 1 X To reduce the tire pressure (version 1): open pressure release screw F on pressure gauge G . TIREFIT kit version 2 E Pressure release button F Pressure gauge X To reduce the tire pressure (version 2): press pressure release button E on the filler hose.
lug wrench, consult an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center. X Prepare the vehicle as described ( Y page 296). X If a trailer is coupled to the vehicle, uncouple it.
X On downhill gradients: place chocks or other suitable items in front of the wheels of the front and rear axle. Raising the vehicle G Warning When jacking up the vehicle, only use the jack which has been specifically approved by Mercedes-Benz for your vehicle.
X Position jack = at jacking point ; . X Make sure that the base of the jack is positioned directly under the jacking point. X Turn ratchet ring spanner ? until jack = sits completely on jacking point ; and the base of the jack lies evenly on the ground.
Do not tighten the wheel bolts when the vehicle is raised. Otherwise, the vehicle could fall off the jack. : Wheel bolts for 18", 19" and 20" wheels 2 Wheel bolts for the "Minispare" emergency spare wheel ! Always use wheel bolts ; to mount the collapsible spare wheel.
Version 2 X Version 1: open flap : . X Version 1: pull connector = and the air hose with pressure gauge ? out of the housing. X Version 2: pull connector = and the air hose out of the housing. X Version 1: make sure that the pressure release screw on pressure gauge ? is closed.
X Place the ratchet ring spanner onto the hexagon nut of the jack so that the letters AB are visible. X Turn the ratchet ring spanner until the vehicle is once again standing firmly on the ground. X Place the jack to one side. X Tighten the wheel bolts evenly in a crosswise pattern in the sequence indicated ( : to A ).
This is particularly the case when the vehicle is heavily laden. The maximum permissible distance that can be driven in run-flat mode depends to a large extent on the loads placed on the vehicle. It can be shorter due to high speeds, a heavy cargo, sudden changes in direction, the road surface condition, outside temperature, etc.
Immediately rinse acid splashes off with clean water. Consult a doctor if necessary. Wear eye protection. Keep children away. Observe this Operator's Manual. H Environmental note Do not dispose of batteries in the household rubbish. Dispose of defective batteries in an environmentally responsible manner.
i If the power supply has been interrupted, e.g. if the battery has been reconnected, you must carry out the following tasks: R set the clock ( Y page 206) On vehicles with COMAND and a navigation system, the clock is set automatically.
Jump-starting G Warning Failure to follow these directions will cause damage to the electronic components, and can lead to a battery explosion and severe injury or death. Never lean over batteries while connecting or jump starting. You might get injured.
X Shift the transmission to position P . X Switch off all electrical consumers (e.g. radio, blower etc.). X Open the hood ( Y page 278). Position number C identifies the charged battery of the other vehicle or an equivalent jump- starting device. ! Never swap the terminal connections.
Towing away Important safety guidelines G Warning With the engine not running, there is no power assistance for the brake and steering systems. In this case, it is important to keep in mind that a considerably higher degree of effort is necessary to brake and steer the vehicle.
X Take cover : off the opening. X Screw in the towing eye clockwise to the stop. X Insert the lug wrench handle into the towing eye and tighten it. or X If your vehicle is not equipped with a lug wrench, use a suitable object to tighten the towing eye.
Recovering a vehicle that has become stuck Take great care when recovering a vehicle whose drive wheels have become embedded in loose earth or mud, particularly if the vehicle is laden. When recovering the vehicle, do not use jerky movements and do not pull it at an angle.
The fuses are located in various fuse boxes: R fuse box on the front-passenger side of the dashboard R fuse box in the engine compartment on the right-hand side of the vehicle, when viewed in the dire.
Engine emergency off If the engine cannot be switched off as described, observe the following procedure: X Take the fuse allocation chart out of the vehicle tool kit ( Y page 294). X Open the fuse box in the engine compartment ( Y page 316). X Remove fuse 120.

Directives to be observed R Only mount tires and wheels of the same type and make. R Only mount tires of the correct size onto the wheels. R After mounting new tires, run them in at moderate speeds for the first 60 miles (100 km) as they only reach their full performance after this distance.
Depending upon the weather and/or road surface (conditions), the tire traction varies widely. Do not use tires until they are excessively worn as the tire traction on wet road surfaces decreases significantly when the tread depth is less than 1 / 8 in (3 mm).
R check the tire for foreign bodies. R check whether the wheel is losing air or the valve is leaking. R make sure that only a valve cap approved by Mercedes-Benz is installed on the tire valve. tire pressure that is too low have a negative effect on vehicle safety, which could lead you to cause an accident.
Additional specifications of tire pressure values for loads can also be found on the tire pressure table on the inside of the fuel filler flap. The tire pressure for emergency spare wheels can be foun.
Underinflated tires can: R wear excessively and/or unevenly R adversely affect fuel economy R fail from being overheated R adversely affect handling Overinflated tires can: G Warning Follow recommended tire inflation pressures. Do not overinflate tires.
message will appear in the multifunction display. G Warning! When the multifunction display shows the message Tire Pressure Check Tires , one or more of your tires are significantly underinflated.
