Occupant safety 45 see “Children in the vehicle” ( Y page 62). SRS indicator lamp The SRS system conducts a self-test when the ignition is switched on and in regular intervals while the engine is running. This facilitates detection of system malfunctions.
Occupant safety 46 a properly seated position and to wear their respective seat belt. For maximum protection in the event of a collision always be in normal seated position with your back against the seat backrest. Fasten your seat belt and make sure it is properly positioned on your body.
Occupant safety 47 should the side impact air bags be deployed. (2) Always sit as upright as possible, properly use the seat belts, and for children 12 years old and under, use an appropriately sized infant restraint, toddler restraint, or booster seat recommended for the size and weight of the child.
Occupant safety 48 R Do not make any modification that could change the effectiveness of the seat belts. R Do not bleach or dye seat belts as this may severely weaken them. In a crash they may not be able to provide adequate protection. R No modifications of any kind may be made to any components or wiring of the SRS.
Occupant safety 49 Driver and front passenger front air bags are deployed R in the event of certain frontal impacts R if impact exceeds a preset deployment threshold R if the system determines that ai.
Occupant safety 50 R independently of the front air bags R independently of the ETDs The front passenger side impact air bag will not deploy if the OCS senses that the front passenger seat is empty and the front passenger seat belt is not fastened (latch plate is not inserted into the buckle).
Occupant safety 51 upright as possible with their back against the seat backrest and feet on the floor to be correctly classified. If the occupant’s weight is transferred to another object in the vehicle (e.g. by leaning on armrests), the OCS may not be able to properly approximate the occupant’s weight category.

Occupant safety 54 In order to ensure proper operation of the air bag system and OCS: R Do not place more than 4.4 lb (2 kg) into the storage bag on the back of the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the OCS may not be able to properly approximate the occupant weight category.
Occupant safety 55 Seat belts Safety notes The use of seat belts and infant and child restraint systems is required by law in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories and all Canadian provinces. Even where this is not the case, all vehicle occupants should have their seat belts fastened whenever the vehicle is in motion.
Occupant safety 56 section, as that could result in serious injuries in case of an accident. R Each occupant should wear their seat belt at all times, because seat belts help reduce the likelihood of and potential severity of injuries in accidents, including rollovers.

Occupant safety 63 G Warning! When leaving the vehicle, always remove the SmartKey from the starter switch. Always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Do not leave children unattended in the vehicle, even if they are secured in a child restraint system, or with access to an unlocked vehicle.
Occupant safety 64 The use of infant or child restraints is required by law in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories and all Canadian provinces.
Occupant safety 65 check installation. Periodically check the 59 indicator lamp while driving to make sure the 59 indicator lamp is illuminated. If the 59 indicator lamp goes out or remains out, do not transport a child on the front passenger seat until the system has been repaired.

Occupant safety 67 Damaged or impact damaged child seats or child seat mounting fittings must be replaced. Non-LATCH-type child seats may also be used and can be installed using the vehicle’s seat belt system. Install child seat according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Panic alarm 68 1 Override switch 2 Indicator lamp X Activating: Press override switch 1 . Indicator lamp 2 comes on. The functions in the rear are disabled. It is still possible to operate the rear door windows using the switches located on the door control panel of the driver’s door.

Driving safety systems 70 ignition. It goes out when the engine is running. Braking At the instant one of the wheels is about to lock up, a slight pulsation can be felt in the brake pedal, indicating that the ABS is in the regulating mode. X Keep firm and steady pressure on the brake pedal while you feel the pulsation.
Driving safety systems 71 G Warning! BAS Plus is a convenience system designed to assist the driver during vehicle operation. The responsibility for the vehicle speed and the distance to the vehicle ahead, including most importantly brake operation to assure safe stopping distance, always remains with the driver.
Driving safety systems 72 and vehicles driving offset from your vehicle center. After a hard collision or damage to the front of the vehicle from an accident, have the adjustment and operation of the radar sensors checked by an authorized Mercedes- Benz Center.
Driving safety systems 73 ESP ® G Observe Safety notes, see page 69. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP ® ) is operational as soon as the engine is running and monitors the vehicle’s traction (force of adhesive friction between the tires and the road surface) and handling.

Driving safety systems 75 R you cannot activate the cruise control or the DISTRONIC Plus R the cruise control or the DISTRONIC Plus switch off if activated i When the ESP ® is switched off and one or more drive wheels are spinning, the ESP ® warning lamp v in the instrument cluster flashes.
Driving safety systems 76 malfunction. Vehicle stability in standard driving maneuvers is reduced. Adapt your speed and driving to the prevailing road conditions and to the non- operating status of the ESP ® . ! Avoid spinning of a drive wheel for an extended period with the ESP ® switched off.
Driving safety systems 77 permitted. Do not tamper with, alter, or use in any non-approved way. Any unauthorized modification to this device could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. PRE-SAFE ® will only assist you by initiating braking automatically when the driver and front passenger have their seat belts fastened.
Driving safety systems 78 area clear at all times, including the area under the brake pedal. Objects stored in this area may impair pedal movement which could interfere with the braking ability of the PRE-SAFE ® Brake. Do not place your foot under the brake pedal – your foot could become caught.
Anti-theft systems 79 i PRE-SAFE ® Brake will remain passive while DISTRONIC Plus is switched on ( Y page 360). After a hard collision or damage to the front of the vehicle from an accident, have the settings and operation of the radar sensors checked by an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
Anti-theft systems 80 1 Indicator lamp X Arming: Lock the vehicle with the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO. The turn signal lamps flash three times to indicate that the vehicle is locked. Indicator lamp 1 flashes to indicate that the alarm system is armed.
