36 Getting started Unlocking Position 0 Before you press the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button, th e vehicle’s on-board electronics have status 0 (as with SmartKey removed). Position 1 왘 Press the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button once. This supplies power for some electrical consumers, such as seat adjustment.
37 Getting started Adjusting 왔 Adjusting Seats Wa r n i n g ! G All seat, head restraint, steering wheel, and rear view mirror adjustments, as well as fas- tening of seat belts, must be done before the vehicle is put into motion. Wa r n i n g ! G Do not adjust the driver’s seat while driving.

42 Getting started Adjusting Easy-entry/exit feature This feature allows for easier entry into and exit from the vehicle. When entering and exiting the vehicle, the steering wheel is in its uppermost position. The easy-entry/exit feature can be activated or deactivated in the Convenience submenu of the control system ( 컄 page 160).
43 Getting started Adjusting Mirrors Adjust the interior and exterior rear view mirrors before driving so that you have a good view of the road and traffic condi- tions. Interior rear view mirror 왘 Manually adjust the interior rear view mirror. For more information, see “Rear view mir- rors” ( 컄 page 181).

45 Getting started Driving 왔 Driving Fastenin g the seat belts Wa r n i n g ! G Do not lay any objects in the driver’s foot- well. Be careful that floor ma ts or carpets in the driver’s footwell have sufficient clear- ance for the pedals. During sudden driving or braking maneu- vers, the objects could get caught between the pedals.
46 Getting started Driving The seat belt presenter for driver and pa s- senger makes it easier to put on the seat belt. 1 Seat belt presenter The seat belt presenter slides out when the corresponding door is closed and the igni- tion is switched on ( 컄 page 34).
47 Getting started Driving 왘 Place the shoulder portion of the belt across the top of your shoulder and the lap portion across your h ips. 왘 Push latch plate 1 into buckle 3 until it clicks. 왘 If necessary, tighten the lap portion to a snug fit by pulling shoulder portion up.
48 Getting started Driving The seat belt presenter slides back: 앫 right after you pus hed the latch plate 1 into buckle 3 and heard it click. 앫 after approximately 60 seconds if you did not push latch pl ate 1 into buckle 3 . 앫 if your door is opened.
49 Getting started Driving Starting with the SmartKey 왘 Make sure the gear selector lever is set to P . 왘 Do not depress accelerator. 왘 Turn the SmartKey in the start er switch to position 3 ( 컄 page 34) and release it again immediately (“touch-start”).
50 Getting started Driving Starting difficulties If the engine does not start as described, carry out the following steps: 왘 If you are starting the engine with the SmartKey, turn SmartKey in starter switch to position 0 and repeat starting procedure.
51 Getting started Driving Driving 왘 Depress the brake pedal. 왘 Move gear selector lever to position D or R . 왘 Release the brake pedal. 왘 Carefully depress the accelerator pedal. Once the vehicle is in motion, the auto- matic central locking system engages and the locking knobs drop down.

55 Getting started Driving Wiping with windshi eld washer fluid 왘 Press the combination switch in direc- tion of arrow 1 past the resistance point. The windshield wipers operate with washer fluid. For information on filling up the washer reservoir, see “Windshield washer system and headlamp cleaning system*” ( 컄 page 329).
56 Getting started Driving Problems while driving The engine runs erratically and misfires 앫 An ignition cable may be damaged. 앫 The engine electronics may not be op- erating properly. 앫 Unburned gasoline may have entered the catalytic converter and damaged it.

71 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Enhanced seat belt reminder system When the engine is started the seat belt telltale < illuminates for a maximum of six seconds and a warning chime sounds to remind you and your passengers to fas- ten your seat belts.
72 Safety and Security Occupant safety Emergency tensi oning devi ce (ETD), seat belt force limiter The seat belts are equipped with emergen- cy tensioning devices and belt force limiters.
73 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Active head restraints The active head restraints are intended to offer the driver and front passenger in- creased protection from head and neck in- jury.
74 Safety and Security Occupant safety Roll bars The roll bars are integrated into the rear head restraints. The roll bars raise automatically in an acci- dent or in a critical driving situation. You can manually lower the roll bars again when the soft top is open ( 컄 page 424).
75 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Children in the ve hicle If an infant or child i s traveling with you in the vehicle: 앫 Secure the child using an infant or child restraint appropriate to the age and size of the child. 앫 Make sure that the infant or child is properly secured at all times while the vehicle is in motion.

77 Safety an d Security Occupant safety 앫 If you must instal l a rear-facing child restraint on the front passenger seat because circumstanc es require you to do so, make sure that the 56 indicator lamp is illuminated, indicating that the front passenger fro nt air bag is deactivated.
78 Safety and Security Occupant safety Occupant Classification System The O ccupant C lassification S ystem (OCS) automatically turns the front p assenger front air bag on or off based on the classi- fied occupant weight category determined by weight sensor readings from the front passenger seat.
79 Safety an d Security Occupant safety When the OCS senses th at the front passen- ger seat occupant is classified as being up to or less than the weight of a typical 12-month-old child in a standard.
80 Safety and Security Occupant safety Wa r n i n g ! G According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seat- ing position. Thus, we strongly recommend that children be placed in the rear seats whenever possible.
81 Safety an d Security Occupant safety The 56 indicator lamp is located in the center console. 1 Front passenger front air bag off indica- tor lamp The 56 indicator lamp 1 will be illuminated, except with the SmartKey removed or in starter switch position 0 .
82 Safety and Security Occupant safety Self-test Occupan t Classification System After turning the SmartKey in the starter switch to position 1 or 2 or pressing the KEYLESS-GO* start/stop button once or twice, the 56 indicator lamp located in the center console illuminates.
83 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Child seat anchors – LATCH type This vehicle is equipped with two LATCH (L ower A nchors and T ethers for CH ildren) type anchors (at each of the rear seats) for the installation of a LATCH-type child seat with matching mounting fittings.
84 Safety and Security Occupant safety LATCH-type anchors de sign A The foldable LATCH-type anchors are located between the seat cushion and the backrest. 1 Indicates the position of the anchors 2 Anchors 3 Release button To fold anchors out: 왘 Grip inner side of anchors 2 and fold forward until they audibly lock in place.
85 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Blocking of rear side window operation You can block the rear side window operation (for instance when you have children riding in the rear pass enger compartment). The override switch is located on the door control panel of th e driver’s door.
86 Safety and Security Panic alarm An audible alarm and flashing exterior lamps will operate for approximately 2 1 / 2 minutes. 1 Â button Activating 왘 Press and hold button 1 for at least one second. Deactivating 왘 Press button 1 again. or 왘 Insert the SmartKey or the SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO* in the starter switch.

94 Safety and Security Anti-theft systems Tow-away alarm Once the tow-away alarm is armed, a visual and audible alarm will be triggered when someone attempts to raise the vehicle. Arming tow-away alarm 왘 Lock the vehicle with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO*.

A minimum height clearance of 5.41 ft (1.65 m) is required to open the trunk lid. The remote trunk opening switch is locat- ed on the driver’s d oor (vehicles without trunk opening/closing system*).
