2 Saf e ty instruc tions • This unit is not intended for use by people (includi ng chil dren) with reduced physical, se nsory or mental abilities or for those without experience and/or knowledg e, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or they have been in structed on its use.
3 Preventing damage to the camcorder • If the battery is leaking, re move it from the camcorder immediately. Clean the cont acts be fore inserting a new battery. • Use type NP60 lithium-ion batteries o nly. • Before inserting the battery, check that the contacts in the camcorder and on the batte ries are clean.

6 Gettin g star t ed Open the battery and card compartment The compartment for the battery and memory is on the underside of the ca mera. ` Hold the camcorder so that the cover to th e battery compartment is facing upwards. ` Slide the cover backwards towards the rear of the device.
7 Bas ic o p er ation Switching the camcorder on and off ` To turn on the camera, open up the LCD panel. The display shows information a nd the operation LED shines green. ` To turn the camera off, shut the LCD panel or pr ess the Power button . Changing the mode of operation The camera has a record and a playback mode.

9 The menu in r ecor d mode ` To open the menu, press OK . In the main menu you will find four menus, indicated by picture symbols: • Film mode • Camera mode • Effects • Setting Using the on-screen menus ` To select a menu, press the direction buttons LEF T and RIGHT .
10 “Camera mode” menu Resolution The following settings are available fo r photo quality: Setting Explanation High Choose this setting if you want to have the photos printed or enlar ged by a laboratory. Std (standard) Choose this setting if you want to print the photos or burn them onto a photo CD.
11 WB (White Balance) The camera adjusts the colour bala nce of images automatically. ` If you notice a colour c ast in the preview on th e LCD panel, you ca n also change the basic setting. The following settings are available: Setting Explanation Auto The camera sets the w hite balance a utomatically Daylight For shots taken in daylight.
12 Format Here you can re-format the memory: • When a memory ca rd is inserted, the card wil l be formatted; • When no memory card is inserted, the internal memory is formatted. CAUTION! If you format the memor y all the data stored there wi ll be deleted.
13 P l ayi ng b a c k re c o rd i ng s Play back movies on the LCD panel ` Press the button MO DE . The main menu of playback mode is di splayed. ` Select MOVIE using the RIGHT / LEFT direction button. ` Press OK . You see thumbnail previews of the recor ded movies.
14 F unctions in pla y back mode Playback functions: movies In movie playba ck mode, fur ther functions ar e available. ` Open a preview picture of a movie (see Play back movies on the LCD panel, page 13.
15 Playback functions: photos In photo playback mode, further functions a re available. ` Show a photo on the LCD panel (see Play back movi es on the LCD panel , page 13. ` Press OK . The playback menu is shown. Th e following options are available: • Delete • Lock • Slideshow Delete ` Select Delete with UP /DOWN .

17 The operation screen will appear: ` Select the folder that contains the video files yo u want to burn. ` Select the files ` Click button to add files to the slide show. ` Click Burn to Disc . ` Before starting the burning, sele ct the drive with the blank DVD.
18 YouTube Direct The built-in YouTube Direc t application offers yo u an easy way to upload yo ur video clips di rectly to YouTube. To do so, you must have a n account with YouTube . ` Connect the camera to a PC with Internet access using the US B cable.
19 Tr o u b l e s h o o t i n g Fault Cause Remedy Macro mode is enabled. Disable macro mode. The photos/films are blurred. The lens is dirty. Clean the lens. The photos/films have a colour imbalance. The white balance is not set correctly. Select a white balance setting matching the current light conditions.
20 Cle anin g Before cleaning the device, always disco nnect it from t he mains supply. Only use a dr y, soft cloth to clean the d evice. Do not us e chemical solutio ns and clea ning pr oducts, because these may damage the unit’s surf ace and/or inscriptions.
21 Disposal Packaging To prevent transport damage, your de vice is packed in packaging. All packaging materials that are no lo nger required can and should be recycl ed. Appliance At the end of its life, the ap pliance should not be di sposed of in the normal household rubbish.
