Black plate (15,1) q Seat Recline WARNING Do not drive with either front seat reclined: Sitting in a reclin ed position while the vehicle is moving is dangerous because you do not get th e full protection from seat belts. Du ring sudden braking or a collision, you can slide under the lap belt and suffer seriou s internal injur ies.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returni ng a rear-reclined seatback to its upright pos ition, make sure you hold onto the seatback with your other han d while operating the lever. If the sea tback is not supported, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury.
Black plate (17,1) CAUTION Ø The seat-bottom power adjustment is ope rated by motors. Avoid extended operation because excessive use can damage the motors. Ø To prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the power adjustme nt when the engine is stoppe d.

Black plate (22,1) Rear Seat WARNING Make sure luggage and cargo is secured before driv ing: Not securing cargo while driv ing is dangerous as it could move or be crushed during sudden braking or a collision and ca use injury. Do not drive with the seatback unlocked: All of the seatbacks play an important role in your protection in a vehicle.

Black plate (24,1) q Armrest The rear armr est in the center of the rear seatback can be used (no occupant in the center seat) or placed upright. Armrest Head Restraints Head restraints are intended to help protect you and the passengers from neck injury .
Black plate (25,1) Rear seat Seat W armer í Press the HI or LO side of the seat warmer switch with the ignition is switched ON. The indicator on the switch illuminates and the seat warms up. If a higher temperature is preferred, press the HI side of the switch, and for a lower temperature, press the LO side.
Black plate (26,1) WARNING Ø Be careful when using the seat warmer. The heat from the seat warmer may be too hot for some people, as ind icated below, and could cause a low-temperature burn.
Black plate (27,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibil ity of severe injury during acciden ts and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belt s. All of the seat belt retractors are desig ned to keep the lap/shoul der belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (28,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and make sure all occu pants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely dangerous. During a collis ion, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or th ings inside the veh icle or even be thrown out of the vehicle .
Black plate (29,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become diffic ult if the belts and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing ” (page 8-57).
Black plate (30,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-restraint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o enable seat belt automatic locki ng mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instructed on the child-restrai nt system.
Black plate (31,1) Seat Belt q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the seat belt tongue. 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoulder belt. Seat belt tongue Lap/shoulder belt 3. Insert the seat belt tongue into the seat belt buckle unti l you hear a clic k sound.
Black plate (32,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat b elt buckle. If the belt does not full y retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. The n make sure it remains untwis ted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (33,1) Front Seat Belt Pr etensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipp ed with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these syst ems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (34,1) Do not modify the compo nents or wiring, or use elect ronic testing devic es on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electro nic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (35,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arni ng Beep If a malfunction is detected in both the air bag/front seat belt prete nsioner system and the warning light, a warning beep sound will b e heard for about 1 minute. After that, the one-minute beep will be repeated every 30 minutes .
Black plate (36,1) WARNING Do not use a seat belt extender unles s it is necessar y: Using a seat belt extender when not necessary is dangerous. Th e seat belt will be too long and not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protection and you could be seriously injured.
Black plate (37,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/ Beep The seat belt war ning light ill uminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is switch ed ON. Conditions of operat ion Condition Result The driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition is switched ON.

Black plate (39,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restrai nt systems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (40,1) WARNING Use the correct size child -restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accident s and sudden stop s, a child must be properly restrain ed using a seat belt or child-r estraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (41,1) Do not install a front -facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, th e force of a deployin g air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.
Black plate (42,1) Do not allow a child or anyone to lean over or against the side window of a vehicle with side and cur tain air bags: It is dangerous to allow anyone to lean over or against the side.
Black plate (43,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statist ics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clear ly the worst choice for any child under 12, and with rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clear ly unsafe du e to air bags.
Black plate (44,1) 3. T o get the retractor into the automatic locking mode, pull the shoulder belt portion of the seat belt until the entire length of the belt is out of the retractor . 4. Push the child-restraint system firmly into the vehicle seat.

Black plate (50,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Outboard Seats) 1. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked. 2. Expand the area between the seat bottom and the seatback slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors.

Y ou can locate the various air bags by the use of “ SRS AIRBAG ” locat ion indicators. These indicator s are visible in the area where the air bags are installed.
Black plate (54,1) WARNING Seat belts must be worn in air bag equipped vehicles: Depending only on the air bags fo r protection during an accident is danger ous.

The side air bags inflate with great force and speed directly ou t of the outboard side of the front seat and expand along the front doo r on the side the car is hit.

Black plate (59,1) How the Air Bags W ork q How the Front Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensors detect a front al impact of great er than moderate force, an electrical curren t is sent to the inflators. Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the infl ation, the front air bags quickly deflate.
Black plate (60,1) Front passenger seat weight sensors Y our vehicle is equipped with a front passen ger seat weight sensor s as a part of the supplemental restraint syst em. (page 2-34). These sensors are located under both of the front passenger seat rails.

Black plate (79,1) T o unlock Driver's door handle T o unlock the driver's door, touch the sensor area on the inside of the driver's door handle.
Black plate (80,1) l (Auto re-lock function) After unlocking the doors using the sensor on the inside of the door handle, all the doors will automatically lock if any of the following operations ar e not done within about 30 seconds. If your vehicle has a theft-deterr ent system, the hazard warning lights will flash for confirmation.

Black plate (86,1) Operation Using Advanced Key Functions q Keyless Entry System This system uses the more traditional keyless entry buttons to remo tely lock and unlock the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power windows and the moonroof. It can also help you signal for attention.
Black plate (87,1) Lock button T o lock the doors, press the lock button. A beep sound will be heard once a nd the hazard warning ligh ts will flash once. T o confirm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are close d and locked, the horn will sound.

Black plate (90,1) q Advanced Key Removed from V ehicle W arning Beep Under the follow ing conditions, a beep sound will be heard and the KEY warning light (red) will flas h continuously when the push button start has not been switched off to notify the drive r that the advanced key has been removed.
Black plate (91,1) l The advanced key is placed in areas where it is difficult for the system to detect the signa l (page 3-7). l A key from anothe r manufacturer similar to the advanced key is in the operational range.
Black plate (92,1) When W arning Indicator/Beep is Activated Under the following conditions, warning beeps are heard and a warning/indicator light in the instrument cluster illumi nates to notify the driver of improper ope ration of the advanced key to prevent theft of the vehicl e (page 3-19).
Black plate (93,1) Keys WARNING Do not leave the key in your vehicle with children and keep them in a place where your children will not find or play with them: Leaving children in a vehicle with the key is dangerous. This could resu lt in someone being badly injured or even killed.
Black plate (94,1) Key extend/retract method (Retractable type key) T o extend the key , press the release button. T o retract the key , rotate it into the holder while pressing the release button. Keyless Entry System í This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and opens the trunk lid, and opens the power windows and the moonroof.
Black plate (95,1) NOTE l The keyless entry system is designed to operate up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) fr om the center of the vehicle, but this may vary due to local conditions. l The system does not operate when the key is in the ignition switch. l Doors can be locked by pr essing the lock button while any other door is open.
Black plate (96,1) Lock button T o lock the doors, press the lock button. T o confirm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are close d and locked, the horn will sound. The system can be set not to sound the horn.
Black plate (97,1) Panic button If you witnes s from a distance someone attempting to break into or damag e your vehicle, pressing the panic butt on will activate the vehicle's alarm. NOTE The panic button will work whether any door or the trunk lid is open or closed.
Black plate (98,1) 2. Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slot and push the tab to remove the key from the transmitter . Ta b 3. Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slot and gently pry open the transmitter . 4. Press the tab outward and remove the battery slowly and carefully using a small flathead screwdriver .
Black plate (99,1) 7. Align the key with the transmitter as shown in the figure, and insert the key until a click sound is heard. CAUTION Insert the key into the tran smitter securely until a click sound is heard. If it is not inserted securely , it could detach from the transmitter.
Black plate (100,1) q Locking, Unlocking with Key The driver's door can be locked /unlocked with the key . T urn the key toward the front to lock, toward the back to unlock.
Black plate (101,1) T o lock any door with the door-lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door . This does not operate the other door locks. Door-lock knob NOTE l (W ith advanced key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob fr om the outside.
Black plate (102,1) Locking, unlocki ng with door -lock switch All doors lock autom atically when lock side is pressed. They all unlock when unlock side is pressed .
Black plate (103,1) T runk Lid WARNING Never allow a per son to ride in the trunk: Allowing a perso n to ride in the trun k is dangerous. In addition , the person in the trunk could be seriously injured or killed during sudden braking or a collis ion.
Black plate (104,1) Opening the trunk lid with the transmitter (with retractable type ke y) The trunk lid can be opened by op erating the keyless entry system transmitter, refer to Keyless Entry System (page 3-24). Opening the trunk lid with the remote release button Push the release button.
Black plate (105,1) 4. Slide the inside trunk release lever in the direction of the arrow . After performing this emergency meas ure, have the vehicle inspe cted at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible. Closing the trunk lid Use both hands to push the trunk lid down until the lock snaps shut.
Black plate (106,1) Inside T runk Release Lever Y our vehicle is equipped with an inside trunk release lever that provides a means of escape for children and adults in the event they become locked inside the trunk.
Black plate (107,1) q Opening the T runk Lid from the Inside Slide the inside trunk release lever in the direction of the arrow . The lever is made of material that will glow for hours in the darkness of the trunk following a brief exposure to ambient light.
Black plate (108,1) q Operating the Front Power Wi ndows NOTE l Each passenger power window can be operated with each door switch when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position (page 3-40).
Black plate (109,1) NOTE (POWER WINDOW RESET PROCEDURE) If the battery was disconnected during vehicle maintenance, or for other reasons such as a switch continues to be operated after the window is fully open/close, the power windows will not fully open and close automatically .
Black plate (1 10,1) q Operating the Rear Power Windows The power window s may be operat ed when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position. The rear power windows may be opened or closed using the power window master control switches on the driver's door .
Black plate (1 1 1,1) q Opening/Closing the Power Windows and the Moonroof from Outside The front power wind ows and the moonroof can be opened or closed from outside the vehicle after the doors and the trunk lid are closed.
Black plate (1 12,1) WARNING Use the remote auto-window and the auto-moonroof functio n only when you can see the vehicle and it is in a secur e area: Do not let children play with your keys.
