Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returning a rear-reclined seatbac k to its upright position, make sure you hold onto the seatback with your other hand while operating the lever . If the seatback is not suppor ted, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury .

Black plate (18,1) q Seat Recline W ARNING Do not drive with the seats reclined: Sitting in a reclined position while the vehicle is movin g is dangerous because you don't get the full protection from seat belts. Duri ng sudden braking or a collision , you can slide under the lap belt and suffer serious internal injuries.
Black plate (19,1) Rear of seat bottom Raise or lower the back of the switch to adjust the rear height of the seat bottom. q Lumbar Support Adjustment The amount of lumbar support can be adjusted by pressing the switch . T o increase the seat firmness, press and hold the front part of the switch to the desired position, then release it.
Black plate (20,1) q Seat W armer The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Press the switch to turn the seat warmer on or off. When the switch is in the ON position, the indicator light will come on. NOTE The seat temperature is regulated automatically by a therm ostat.
Black plate (21,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury durin g accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retr actors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (22,1) W ARNING Never use one seat belt on more than one person at a time: Using one seat belt for more than one person at a time is dangerous. A seat belt used in this way cannot spread the impact forces proper ly and the two p assengers could be crushed together and seriously injur ed or even killed.
Black plate (23,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women should wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for specific recommendatio ns. The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly , but never across the stomach area.

Black plate (25,1) Seat Belts q Fastening the Seat Belts 1. Grasp the tongue . 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoul der belt. Belt Tongue 3. Inser t the tongue into the buckle until you hear a click. T ongue Buckle W ARNING Positioning the Shoulder Por tion of the Seat Belt: Improper positioning of the shoulde r portion of the seat belt is dan gerous.
Black plate (26,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belts Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retr acts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (27,1) W ARNING Expended Seat Bel t Pretensioners: One or both front air bags may deploy , and the corresponding pretensioner(s) will also deploy at the same time. Use of front seat belts with the pretensioner system exp ended is dangerous.
Black plate (28,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Light If the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system is normal, the warning light illuminates when the igni tion switch is turned to the ON position or after the engine is cranked.
Black plate (29,1) W ARNING Using an Extender That is T oo Long: Using an extender that is too long is dangerous. The seat belt will not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protectio n and you could be seriously injured.
Black plate (30,1) The belt minder is a supplemental warning to the seat belt war ning function. If the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the warning light/b eep operates to give you further reminders according to the chart below .
Black plate (31,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint syst ems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (32,1) W ARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stops, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injur ed or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (33,1) W ARNING A void puttin g a front-facing child-rest raint system on the front passenger seat: A front-facing child-restrai nt system should only be put on the front seat when it is unavoidable. In a collision, the force of a deploying air bag could cause seri ous injury or death to the child.
Black plate (34,1) W ARNING Do not allow a child to lean over or agains t the side window of a vehicle with side and curtain air bags: It is dangerous to allow anyone to lean over or against the side .
Black plate (35,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (36,1) 1. Secure the child-res traint system with the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt. See the manufacturer's instruct ions on the child-restraint system for belt routing instructions.
Black plate (37,1) W ARNING Use the tether and tether anchor only for a child-restraint system: Using the tethe r or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-rest raint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tether or tether anchor and result in injur y.
Black plate (38,1) W ARNING Never use a rear- facing child-rest raint system in the front seat with an air bag that could deploy: Rear-facing child-rest raint systems on the front seat are particularly dangerous.
Black plate (39,1) NOTE l Inspect this function before each use of the child-restraint system. Y ou should not be able to pull the shoulder belt out of the retractor while the system is in the automatic locking mode.
Black plate (40,1) LA TCH Child-Restraint Systems Y our Mazda is equipped with LA TCH lower anchors for atta chment of speci ally designed LA TCH child-restraint systems in the rear seat. Both anchors must b e used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .
Black plate (41,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Seats) 1. Expan d the open seam s on the rear of the seat bottom slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH low er anchors.
Black plate (42,1) Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) Precautions The front and side supplemental rest raint systems (SRS) include up to 6 air bags (verify “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indicator mark s).

The side air bags inflate with great force and speed directly out of the outboard side of the front seat and expand along the front door on the side the car is hit.

Immediately after inflation, the inflators in the steering wheel, dashboar d, seatbacks, or the front and rear window pillars and along the roof edge are very hot.

Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the inflation, the front air bags quickly deflate.

These sensors are located under both of the front passenger seat rail s. These sensors determine the tota l seated weight on the front passenger seat.

Black plate (54,1) CAUTION l T o assure proper deployment of the front air bag and to prevent damag e to the sensors in the front seat bottoms: l Do not place sharp objects on the front seat bottoms or leave heavy luggage on them. l Do not spill any liquids on the front seats or under the front seats.
Black plate (55,1) q How the Side and Curtain Air Bags W ork When air bag crash sensor s detect a side impact of greater than moderate force, an electrical curren t is sent to the infl ators. Gases are produced to inflate the side and curta in air bags and after the inflation, the side and curtain air bags quickly deflate.
Black plate (56,1) Front air bag activation The front air bags will inflate if the severity of impact is above the designed threshold level. l Hitting a soli d wall straight on at greater than about 22 km/h (14 mph). l Hitting a curb, pavement edge or hard object.

Black plate (59,1) A system malfunction is indicated when the warning light constantly flashes, constantly illuminates or doesn't illuminate at all when the ignition switch is turned to the ON po sition. If any of these occur, consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
Black plate (60,1) W ARNING Dispose of the air bag properly: Improper disposal of an air bag or a vehicle with live air bags in it can be extremely dangerous. Black plate (65,1) q Advanced Key Maintenance CAUTION l Make sure the battery is installed with the correct p ole facing upward. Battery leakage could occur if it is not installed correctly . l When replacing the battery , be careful not to bend the electrical terminals or get oil on them.

Black plate (70,1) q Opening the T runk Lid with Request Switch The trunk lid can be opened by pressing the request switch on the under side of the trunk lid above the license plate while the advanced key is being carried. Request switch NOTE If the advanced key is left in the trunk, the trunk lid will close.
Black plate (71,1) NOTE The Advanced Keyless Entry System does not function in the ACC position, and the doors will not lock/unlock even if they have been locked manually or the advanced key is ca rried away from the vehicle. ON This is the normal runni ng position after the engine is started.
Black plate (72,1) 5. (Manual transmission) Depress the clutch pedal all the way and shift into neutral. Keep the clutch pedal dep ressed while cranking the engine. (Automatic transmission) Put the vehicle in park (P). If you must restart the engine while the vehicle is moving, shift into neutral (N).

Turn the ignition switch from the ACC position to the ST AR T position and hold (up to 10 seconds at a time) until the engine starts. CAUTION Don't try the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time.

Black plate (79,1) q Request Switch Inoperable W arning Beep Under the following conditions, if the request switch for a front door is pressed while the advanced key is being carried, a beep will be heard 6 times to indic ate that the front doors cannot be locked.

Black plate (81,1) User Mis-Operation W arning Indicators Under the following conditions, warning beeps are heard and a warning/indi cator light in the instrument cluster illumi nates to notify the driver of improper operation of the advanced key to prevent theft of the vehicle (page 3-18).
Black plate (82,1) Keys (without Advanc ed Key) W ARNING Keys and Children: Leaving children in a vehicle with the key is dangerous. This could result in someone being badly injured or even killed. These new kinds of keys are fascinating to children. They could play with power windows or other controls, or even make the vehicle move.
Black plate (83,1) T o retract the key , rotate it into the holder while pressing the release button. Keyless Entry System (with Retractable T ype Key) This system remotely locks and unlocks the doors and opens the trunk lid. It can also help you signal for attentio n.
Black plate (84,1) NOTE l The keyless entry system is designed to operate up to about 2.5 m (8 ft) from the center of the vehicl e, but this may vary due to local conditions. l The system doesn't operate when the key is in the ignition switch. l Doors cannot be locked by pressing the lock button while any other door is open.
Black plate (85,1) T o confirm that all doors have been locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are closed and locked, the horn will sound. NOTE (Without theft-deterrent system) The hazard warning lights wi ll flash once to indicate that all doors are locked.
Black plate (86,1) T urning on the alarm Pressing the panic button for 1 second or more will trigger the alarm for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds, and the following will occur: l The horn sounds intermittently . l The hazard warning ligh ts flash. Black plate (89,1) W ARNING V ehicles Lef t Unlocked: Leaving your vehicle unlocked is dangerous as children could lock themselves in a hot vehicle, whic h could result in death. Also, a vehicle left unlocked becomes an easy targe t for thieves and intruders.
Black plate (90,1) T o lock either front door with the door- lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door . Door-lock knob NOTE l (With advanced key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob from the outside.
Black plate (91,1) Driver's door Unlock Lock Passenger's door Unlock Lock Locking, unlocking with request switch (with advanced key) All doors can be locked/unlocked by operating the reques t switch while carrying the advanced key outside the vehicle, refer to Operations Using Advanced Keyless Functions (page 3-7).
Black plate (92,1) CAUTION Before closing a front door make sure other passengers are no t operating a rear door and a rear passenger's head or hands are away from the rear door . If the front door is closed while a passenger is operating the rear door handle, a hand or finge rs could be injured if the handle is forced back.
Black plate (93,1) W ARNING Driving with Doors Not Secured: Driving with the doors not securely closed is dangerous. If the rear door is not completely closed, the front door will not be securel y closed. Thi s could cause the front door to open unexpectedly while driving and may result in an accide nt.
Black plate (94,1) q Opening and Closing the T runk W ARNING T runk Access and Children: Leaving the trunk lid open or leaving children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous. Children could open the trunk lid and climb inside resulting in possible injury or de ath from heat exposure.
Black plate (95,1) Opening the trunk lid with the remote release button Push the release button. Closing the trunk lid Grasp the inner handle and pull the trunk lid down, then push the trunk lid down until it locks securely . Be careful not to slam it.
Black plate (96,1) Inside T runk Release Lever Y our vehicle is equipped with an inside trunk release lever that provides a means of escape for children and adults in the event they become locked inside the trunk.
Black plate (97,1) q Opening the T runk Lid from the Inside Slide the inside trunk relea se lever in the direction of the arrow . The lever is made of material that will glow for hours in the darkness of the trunk following a brief exposure to ambient light.
Black plate (98,1) q Operating the Driver's Side Power Window Manual opening/closi ng T o open the window to the desir ed position, lightly hold down the switch.
Black plate (99,1) q Power Window Lock Switch W ith the lock switch in the unlock ed position, all powe r windows on ea ch door can be operated. W ith the lock switch in the locked position, only the driver's side power window can be operated.
Black plate (100,1) q Closing a Window Pull the latch inward and then push it backward until it snaps shut. Make sure the window is secure ly closed. Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap W ARNING Fuel Spray: Fuel spray is dangerous. Fuel can burn skin and eyes and cause illness if ingested.
Black plate (101,1) q Fuel-Filler Lid T o open, pull up the remote fuel-filler lid release. Remote fuel-filler lid release q Fuel-Filler Cap T o remove the filler cap, turn it counterclockwise. T o close the filler cap, turn it clockw ise until it clicks.
Black plate (102,1) Hood W ARNING Closed and Securely Locked Hood: A hood that is no t closed and securel y locked is dangerou s as it could fly open while the vehicle is moving and block the driver's visi on which could result in a seriou s accident.
Black plate (103,1) Moonroof í The moonroof can be opened or closed electrically only when the ignition switch is in the ON position. T ilt switch Slide switch W ARNING Extending the Head or Arms Thr ough the Moonroof: Extending the head, arms , or other parts of the body through the moonroof is dangerous.
Black plate (104,1) T o close to the desired position , push the front of the tilt or slide switch. Close Close Open q Sunshade The sunshade can be opened and closed by hand. The sunshade opens automatically when the moonroof is opened, but must be closed by hand.
Black plate (105,1) Immobilizer System (with Advanced Key) The immobilizer system allows the engine to start only with an advanced key the system recognizes. If someone attempts to start the engine with an unrecognized key , the eng ine will not start, thereby helping to prevent the theft of your vehicle.
Black plate (106,1) q Operation Arming The system is armed when the ignition switch is turned from the ON position to the ACC or LOCK position . The security indicator light in the inst rument cluster flashes every 2 seconds until the system is disarmed.
Black plate (107,1) q Maintenance If you have a problem with the immobilizer system or the key , consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer . NOTE l The advanced keys (includin g auxiliary key) carry a unique electronic code.
