8 Instructions for Installation Attach a hose to the water heater drain valve and put the other end in a floor drain or outdoors. Open the water heater drain valve. Open a near by hot water faucet which will relieve pressure in the water heater and speed draining.
Locating The New W ater Heater Y ou should carefully c hoose an indoor location for the new water heater , bec ause the placement is a ver y impor tant con- sideration for the safet y of the occupants in the building and for the most economical use of the appliance.

13 Instructions for Installation (cont’d) Filling the W ater Heater To fill the water heater with water: 1. Close the water heater drain valve by turning the hand le to the right (c lockwise). The drain val ve is on the lower front of the water heater .
14 Instructions for Installation (cont’d) 2. The convertible element is located behind the lower access panel of the water heater . Remove the two screws secur ing the access panel, and remove panel. 3. Remove the block of insulation and pad to expose the terminal cover .
15 Instructions for Installation (cont’d) 8. Tighten terminals 2 and 3 to ensure proper electric al con- nection. 9. Replace the terminal cover on the thermostat making sure that the locking tabs on the terminal cover are in place. 10. Place the insulation block and pad bac k in place so that it completely covers the thermostat and element.
