Introduction Congratulations on your pur chase of the Oxygen 8, par t of the USB K eystation series of MIDI controllers br ought to y ou by M-Audio .Y ou ma y use your Oxygen 8 in conjunction with a USB equipped PC or Macintosh computer and a ppr opriate music softwar e to enter a full range of MIDI note and controller information.
Contained within the Oxygen 8 is a USB MIDI interface. Simply plug the Oxygen 8 into your computer’ s USB por t, install the included drivers and enable the MIDI interface within your m usic software.
Guide to Getting Started Here’ s an outline of steps to begin using your Oxygen 8 on either Mac or PC: 1. Attach the Oxygen 8 to your computer (see “Hardwar e Installation”). 2. Install the Driver (see “Software Installation”). 3. Hook your sound module to the Oxygen 8 (see “Setting Up Y our MIDI Studio”).
To v erify your Windows installation after you ha v e carefull y follow ed these instructions, you ma y check y our system’ s “Device Manager , ” located in the Control Panel under “System.
7. Y ou will see a “New Har dware found” dialog. (If you don’ t see this dialog at first, unplug y our Oxygen 8 and tr y again.) Click Next. 8. Y ou will see another warning that the product has not passed Windows logo testing. Click "Continue an ywa y".

A series of progr ess bars will show y ou how the pr ocess is going. 6. At the next prompt, the installer will warn you that this product does not ha ve a Windows Digital Signature.
10. The installer will warn y ou again, a second time , that this product does not ha ve a Windows Digital Signature - again, click “Y es. ” 11. The next scr een informs you that the installer has completed. Click “Finish” to continue. 12. Windows 2000 will prompt y ou to r estar t the computer , in order to complete the installation.

First Time OMS Configuration Instructions If you ha v e installed the Oxygen 8 in Mac OS 9, it is now time to configur e OMS (this is not necessar y in Mac OS X). Go to the Chooser under the Apple Menu, and mak e sur e AppleT alk is turned off (this is recommended, although OMS will sense that it is on and prompt y ou to turn it off).
1. The Oxygen 8 is connected to the computer via the USB port connectors, using the supplied USB standard cable. 2. The Oxygen 8 can pla y the synthesizer that is part of an internal sound card, as well as an y softwar e synthesizers that are installed in y our system.
Using the Oxygen 8 in your Application Software Once the Oxygen 8 driver has been installed, y ou will need to configure y our MIDI application softwar e to utilize the Oxygen 8. The manner in which this is done varies between a pplications, so we can just cov er the basics her e .
1. Po wer up the Oxygen 8, using either a 9vDC adapter or using 6 AA batteries. Set the pow er switch to the the 9V/Batter y setting. “Flat” & “Sharp” keys: By pr essing the MIDI/SELECT button and the flat or the sharp k ey , you will shift the activ e k e yboar d pitch one note (half-step) higher , or low er . For example, if you want to change the pitch 2 notes do wn, press MIDI/SELECT button and the “flat” key twice.
Rear Panel 1. Sustain jack: This jack allows you to connect an optional foots witch to the ke yboard. When the footswitch is depr essed, notes play ed on the k eyboard will continuously sound as long as the f ootswitch is held, while MIDI controller inf ormation is sent from the Oxygen 8.
