4 Activities, de vices, and inputs The Logit ech Harmony 700 Univ ersal Remot e is your answ er to effortless home ent er tainment. The Activities butt ons puts you in control of all y our devices. Y ou can go from w at ching T V to wat ching a D VD to list ening to music with t he touc h of a button.
5 The butt ons on your Har mony 700 The All Off button turns off all the devices in the curr ent Activity . The Activity butt ons star t the appropriat e Activity . The More Activities button opens a list of all A ctivities on the remot e screen. The Help button starts the on-r emote help.
6 Activities When you pr ess an Activity butt on – W atch T V , Wat ch a Movie , or Listen to Music -- t he Activity starts and the commands f or that Activity appear on t he screen. The commands t hat appear are r elated t o the A ctivity , and apply to all of t he devices that you use f or that Activity .
7 The arro w buttons help y ou mov e through each pag e of options, while the side butt ons allows you t o choose a command or function. The cent er button lets you c hoose devices or Activities, or lets y ou back out of pages.
8 Because obstacles or distance can int er fer e with the signals the Har mony 700 sends when it starts an Activity (f or example, someone walks betw een your Harmon y 700 and the T V when you pr ess .
9 Controlling y our devices individually In some cases, you ma y want t o control a device individually . Y ou can use the de vice f eature of t he Harmony 700 t o control devices one-b y-one. When you ar e in an Activity or on the Mor e Activities screen, pr essing the cent er button shows you a list of y our devices.
10 The Harmony 700 senses when y ou pick it up, and lights up the display and butt ons. T o set the lengt h of time the backlight stays on, f ollow these st eps: F rom your Harmon y Remot e Sof twar e: Select the 1 . Remot e Settings tab. Click 2. Displa y Settings .
11 The Harmony R emot e Sof tware leads y ou through a setup pr ocess and allows y ou to chang e your setup lat er if you wish. T o begin, connect y our remot e t o your comput er using the USB cable pro vided and go to www .logitec h.com/myharmon y .
12 2. Connecting your Har mony 700 t o your comput er T o connect y our Harmony 700 t o your PC, use the USB cable pr ovided. Connect the smaller end of the cable t o the USB port on your remot e. 1 . Connect the wider end of the USB cable t o a USB por t on your comput er .

Setting up Activities f or your Harmon y 700 T o set up Activities, y ou use the Add A ctivities page to ent er the infor mation relat ed t o the Activities you will be using on y our Harmony 700. The Harmon y Remot e Sof twar e shows y ou a selection of recommended A ctivities based on the device inf ormation you pr ovided.
14 5. Updating the r emote Af t er you ent er your device and A ctivity infor mation, the software sav es your inf ormation and shows the Finish Setup page. It also transf ers the inf ormation to y our Harmony 700. Aft er the sof twar e updat es your remot e, you’r e ready t o test y our setup.
15 T esting y our setup Every time you updat e your Harmon y 700, you should t est your r emote t o ensure it’s w orking the wa y you expect. This chapt er gives y ou the inf ormation you need t o t est your remot e. It also has some suggestions on what t o check while you’r e testing y our setup.
16 Whether y ou get a new device or want t o change the behavior of some butt ons, you may need t o mak e changes to y our Harmony 700’s setup. The f ollowing sections pro vide you wit h the inf ormation t o help you wit h these tasks.
17 No picture? No sound? No pr oblem! A passthr ough device is a device that y ou add to y our system t hat a signal passes thr ough unalt ered. For ex ample, if you use y our DVD r ecorder (or VCR) t o recor d shows fr om your sat ellite or set t op box, y ou may need to add y our DVD r ecorder as a passt hrough device.
18 When you select an A ctivity , your Harmon y 700 turns on all the r equired ent er tainment devices, sets up the device inputs cor rectly , and sets up the r emot e’s buttons t o control the de vices in the A ctivity .
19 The Harmony 700’s R emot e Assistant guides you thr ough starting Activities. It also gives y ou more inf ormation about the status of y our remot e and the Activity y ou select ed.
20 Adding additional f eatures to y our Harmon y 700 It’s possible that a device’s commands ar e not recognized. Maybe y ou have a v er y rare device? Or a new one? Although w e update our device list r egularly , there ar e always ne w devices in the mark et.
21 T ypes of delays or speed settings If your de vice doesn’t react t o a command from the Harmon y 700, it may be because the delay setting needs t o be adjust ed. By default, differ ent devices tak e dif f erent amounts of time t o react t o a command from a r emote contr ol.
22 Adjusting t he delay between IR commands If you find t he delay between IR commands is t oo long, especially when changing channels on your TV , you can change t he delay time f or a device that is reacting t oo slowly . The Harmony 700 uses se veral differ ent delays to contr ol your devices.
23 Maintaining y our Harmon y 700 Y our Harmon y 700 contains int ernal sof twar e, called firmwar e . The remot e’s firmware is similar t o your comput er’s operating syst em. Logit ech updates t he firmware f or your r emote t o ensure you’r e always getting t he most from your Har mony 700.
24 T roubleshooting pr oblems with your Har mon y 700 In this section, y ou’ll find some commonly reported issues and the sugg est ed solutions. These solutions may help y ou fix problems y ou’re experiencing. If y ou still cannot fix the problem, ref er to Getting help wit h your Harmony 700 .
25 The On Demand command isn’t on the Harmon y 700 for the W atch T V Activity . Y ou can map the command t o any unused butt on on the Harmony 700 or on • the r emote’s scr een. The command is likely in our database, but w asn’t mapped t o the Activity .
26 Figuring out which in puts your sy stem uses One of the most important par ts to cr eating your A ctivities for y our Harmony 700 is det ermining which inputs y our system uses f or each device. This chapt er gives y ou some suggestions on how t o figure out whic h inputs your ent er tainment syst em uses if you’r e not sure.
27 Option 3 — Select the input from an on-scr een menu In this case, y our device uses an on-screen menu from which y ou can select the input you want. When you pr ess the source butt on, the menu appears on your TV screen. Then, y ou use another butt on on the remot e to choose the input y ou want, and then a thir d butt on to select t he input.
28 S tep 2 — W atc h the T V In this st ep, you must use y our T V’s original remot e control t o switc h between inputs. Using your TV’s original remot e, select each input one-at-a-time. 1 . For eac h input, not e which device appears to be connect ed to that input.
