Chapter 1: Introduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Instant EtherF ast ® W ireless-Ready USB PrintServer , the fastest and easiest wa y to network y our printers. No w you can share y our printing resources without tying up y our w orkstation per- formance with pending print jobs.
4 Chapter 2: Getting to Know the EtherFast ® Wireless-Ready USB PrintSer v er LAN Gr een . The LAN LED serves tw o pur poses. If the LED is continuously illuminated , the PrintServer is successfully connected to a device through the LAN port.
EtherFast ® Wireless-Ready USB PrintServer 6 The PrintServer does not ha ve an ON/OFF po wer s witch. Whene ver its po wer adapter is plugged into a po w er suppl y , the PrintSer ver is po wered on. The PrintServer can be po w ered on before, during, or after your netw ork is po w ered on.
1. Inser t the Setup Utility CD . A built-in autor un will begin the installation of the PrintServer’ s Bi-Admin Management Utility , and displa y F igure 4-1. Click the product you wish to install, follo wed b y the Install tab to continue. 2. The installation routine will begin to run and displa y F igure 4-2.

23 When the Conf igure Serv er scr een appears, enter the PrintServer name (in Figure 6-3, the example is SCA71107) . Then enter your pass- w ord (if y ou created one) into the P assw or d f ield , and type it again in the V erify Pass w ord f ield to conf ir m it.
25 Click the Wir eless tab to allow y ou to conf igure infor mation about the PrintServer . The values on this screen are conf igured through your Instant W ireless™ Netw ork PC Card. See the Card’ s documentation for instructions on conf iguration.
27 Chapter 7: Advanced Proper ties The Adv anced Properties section of the W eb-based Utility is for users w ho ha ve a thorough understanding of netw orks and netw ork settings. Changing these settings can cause inter ruption of network communication and mak e the PrintServer cease to function properly .
29 Click the Logical Printers ta b to vie w or change the lo gical printer settings of the PrintServer . F or each Logical Printer , the follo wing f ields are a v ailable: Logical Printer(P ort) - Select the Logical Printer P or t you wish to conf igure.
31 Click the SNMP tab to view or change the SNMP settings of the Wireless- Ready PrintServer . The PrintServer supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). This allo ws netw ork super visors to monitor and control the PrintServer using netw ork management platforms such as HP OpenV ie w , IBM SystemVie w , etc.
33 Chapter 8: Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) is a new standards-based system to allo w remote printing from a PC to an y accessible printer . Normally , the printer will be attached to a computer or other device that functions as an IPP Server .
35 5. Click Sa v e to create the IPP port on your system. Y ou will see a message conf irming that the port has been created and then Figure 8-2. 6. Perform one of these steps. Select an existing printer to use the ne w port, and click OK . OR Click the Add Ne w Printer button to create a ne w printer to use the IPP port.

Otherwise, the PrintServer’ s IP address will remain unkno wn, and connecting to it will impossib le.
Appendix B: About Bi-Directional Printing Normal printing only sends print signals from a PC to a printer . Bi-direction- al printing , also called bitronic printing, refers to a printer’ s ability to do just the opposite—talk back to a PC to notify it of a print job status, paper jams, etc.
Appendix D: Glossar y AppleT alk - An Apple Computer netw orking system that suppor t Apple’ s pro- prietary local talk. Bit - A binar y digit. The v alue—0 or 1—used in the binary numbering system. Also, the smallest form of data. Boot - T o cause the computer to star t executing instructions.

NetBEUI ( NetB IOS E xtended U ser I nterface) - The transport lay er for NetBIOS. NetBIOS and NetBEUI w ere originall y part of a single protocol suite that was later separated. NetBIOS sessions can be transported o ver NetBEUI, TCP/IP and SPX/IPX protocols.
If a recei ver is not tuned to the right frequenc y , a spread-spectrum signal looks like background noise.
