10/100 Hubs Planning Y our Network The rules that go vern ho w nodes and hubs are distributed across a netw ork are important to ensure the integ rity of your data. Cab ling specif ications, dis- tance limits, and other topology rules must be follo wed in order to a void col- lisions, data loss, and do wned network connections.
10/100 Hubs Getting to Know the 10/100 Hub Power LED will be lit w henev er the hub is receiving po wer . 10 Col When lit, this LED indicates that collisions are being encountered at 10Mbps. 100 Col When lit, this LED indicates that collisions are being encountered at 100Mbps.
10/100 Hubs Each EtherF ast II 10/100 Hub has a cr ossover button (labeled MDI/MDIX ) on the front of the hub that allo ws you to connect with other hubs, switches, or routers. T o activ ate the uplinking capability , make sure that the MDI/MDIX button is not depressed.
