Mac Pro 07 3-1 058 Rev . B Hard Drive Replacement Instructions F ollow the instructions in this document carefully . F ailure to follow these instructions could damage your equipment and v oid its warranty . Note: M ac Pro can acc ommodate four serial A T A (SA T A) 3 Gbps hard drives in its f our internal hard drive bays .
Mac Pro Hard Driv e 2 Unplug the power cor d. Hold the side access panel and lift the latch on the back of the computer . W arning: T he edges of the access panel and the enclosur e can be sharp . Be very careful when handling them. Remove the acce ss panel and place it on a at sur face cov ered by a soft, clean cloth.
Mac Pro Hard Driv e 3 Removing the Installed Hard Drive Carefully lay the c omputer on its side so that the open side faces up . Important: Make sure the latch on the back panel is in the up position. When the lat ch is down, the hard drive s and carriers are locked in place and you will not be able to remov e them.
Mac Pro Hard Driv e 4 Remove the f our screws that mount the drive to the carrier and remo ve the drive from the carrier . Important: When removing or installing a har d drive, hold the drive by its sides. Be careful not to touch the printed circuit boar d on the bottom of the drive.
Mac Pro Hard Driv e 5 Formatting the Drive After installing a new drive , you must format it b y the following steps: Open Disk Utility and selec t the drive in the list to the left. Note: If you are f ormatting the primar y drive, use the D isk Utility program on the Install Disk.
