Viewing the Display Scr een Y our phone’ s display scr een pr ovides a wealth of information about your phone’ s st atus and options. This list identifies the symbols you’ll see on y our phone’ s display scr een: indicat es your phone is using S SL (Secur e Sockets Layer) pr otoc ol f or client/server c ommunication.

Y our phone’ s outer scr een display all ows you t o monitor the phone’ s status and to see who’ s calling without opening the phone. T9 T ext Input l ets you quickl y type messages with one k eypr ess per l etter (see page 29). Speed dial l ets you dial phone number s with one or two k eypr esses (see page 27).
T urning Y our Phone On and Off T urning Y our Phone On T o turn your phone on: Pr ess and hold f or appr oximatel y two seconds. Once y our phone is on, it may display “Sear ching for Servic e,” which indicat es that your phone is sear ching for a signal.
Using Y our Phone’ s Battery and Char ger Sprint- or manuf actur er-appr ov ed batteries and ac ces sories can be f ound at Sprint Stor es or thr ough your phone’ s manuf actur er, or contact y our cabl e pr ovider f or mor e inf ormation. Battery Capacity Y our phone is equipped with a Lithium Pol ymer battery .
Installing the Battery T o install the battery: 1. Place the edge of the batt ery that has the battery terminals into the opening on the back of the phone (1), and then pr ess it into plac e (2). 2. Align the tabs on the battery c over with the sl ots on the back of the phone (3), and then pr ess the c ov er down until it clicks (4).
Char ging the Battery Y our phone’ s battery is r echar geabl e and should be char ged as soon as possibl e so you c an begin using your phone. Keeping track of y our battery’ s char ge is important. If your battery l evel bec omes too l ow, y our phone automatic all y turns off and you will l ose all the information you wer e just working on.
Navigating Thr ough Phone Menus The navigation k ey on y our phone allows y ou to scr oll thr ough menus quickl y and easil y . The scr oll bar at the right of the menu k eeps track of y our position in the menu at all times. T o navigate thr ough a menu, simply pr ess the navigation k ey up or down.
Backing Up Within a Menu T o go to the pr evious menu: Pr ess . T o r eturn to standby mode: Pr ess . Displaying Y our Phone Number Just in c ase you f or get your phone number, your phone c an r emind you. T o display your phone number: Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Phone Information > Phone Number .
Making and Answering Calls Making Calls Placing a call fr om your phone is as easy as making a c all fr om any landline phone. Just enter the number and pr ess , and you’r e on your way t o cl ear calls. T o make a call using your k eypad: 1. Mak e sur e your phone is on.
Dialing Options When you ent er numbers in st andby mode, you will see a variety of dialing options appear on the phone’ s display scr een. Call dials the displayed phone number . Contacts Match all ows you to find Cont acts entries that match the display ed number .
Answering Calls T o answer an inc oming call: 1. Mak e sur e your phone is on. (If your phone is off, incoming c alls go to v oicemail.) 2. Pr ess to answer an inc oming call. (Depending on your phone’ s settings, you may also answer inc oming calls by opening the phone or by pr es sing any number k ey .
Answering a Roam Call With Call Guar d Enabl ed Call Guar d is an option that helps you manage your r oaming char ges when making or r eceiving c alls whil e outside the Sprint National Network. Pl ease see “Contr olling Y our Roaming Experience” on page 62 f or mor e inf ormation about r oaming.
Calling Emer gency Numbers Y ou can plac e calls to 911 (dial ), ev en if your phone is l ock ed or your ac count is r estrict ed. During the call, pr es s the desir ed menu list to display among menu lists. T o sel ect menu, highlight it and pr ess .
Enhanc ed 911 (E911) Information This phone f eatur es an embedded Global Positioning Sys tem (GPS) chip neces sary for utilizing E911 emer gency loc ation services wher e availabl e. When you plac e an emer gency 911 call, the GPS f eatur e of your phone begins t o seek information t o cal culate your appr oximat e loc ation.
3-W ay Call to set up a thr ee-way c onver sation. Contacts to ac ces s the Contacts menu. Rec ent Calls to acc es s the Recent Calls lis t. Send Message to send a te xt mes sage. Rec or d V oic e Memo to r ec or d the curr ent conv ersation.
Saving a Phone Number Y our phone can st or e up to five phone numbers in each of 500 Contacts entries. Each entry’ s name can c ontain up t o 32 charact ers. Y our phone automaticall y sorts the Contacts entries alphabeticall y . (F or mor e information, see Section 2F: Using Contacts on page 74.

Using Speed Dialing Y ou can st or e up to 99 numbers in your phone’ s speed dial memory to mak e c ontacting friends and f amil y as easy as pr essing a button or two. With this f eatur e, you c an dial speed dial entries using one k eypr ess f or loc ations 1-9 or two k eypr esses f or loc ations 10-99.
Entering T ext Sel ecting a T ext Input Mode Y our phone pr ovides c onvenient ways t o enter wor ds, l etters, punctuation, and numbers whene ver y ou ar e pr ompted to enter te xt (for e xampl e, when adding a Contacts entry or when using Sprint Mail and SMS T ext Mes saging).
Entering T ext Using T9 T ext Input T9 T ext Input l ets you enter te xt in your phone by pr es sing k eys jus t once per l etter . (T o sel ect the T9W or d mode when entering te xt, see “Selecting a T ext Input Mode” on page 28.) T9 T ext Input anal yzes the l etters you ent er using an intuitive wor d database and cr eates a suitabl e wor d.
Adding a Wor d to the T9 Database If a wor d you want to enter is not display ed as an option when you ar e using T9 T ext Input, you c an add it to the dat abase. T o add a wor d to the T9 T ext Input database: 1. Sel ect the Abc charact er input mode.
Entering T ext Using Abc Mode T o enter text using Abc Mode (multi-tap ke y entry): 1. Sel ect the Abc mode. (See “Sel ecting a T ext Input Mode” on page 28.

Sound Settings Ringer T ypes Ringer types help you identify inc oming calls and mes sages. Y ou can as sign ringer types to individual Contacts entries, types of calls, and types of mes sages.

Display Settings Whil e your wir el es s phone has the capability t o support various display settings and downl oadable themes, it is r ecommended that you k eep the Pivot theme that is curr ently your def ault st andby scr een.
Changing the Backlight Time Length The backlight setting l ets you sel ect how long the display scr een is backlit after any k eypr ess is made. T o change the backlight setting: 1. Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Display > Main Scr een > Backlight .
Changing the Display Scr een f or Inc oming Calls Y ou can set the scr een saver to be shown on the Inc oming Calls display . T o set the incoming calls display: 1. Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Display > Main Scr een > Inc oming Calls . 2.
Changing the Multitasking Al ert Multitasking is a way of k eeping one applic ation active whil e using another . Whil e your curr ent music sel ection is playing, you c an activat e the Menu option and choose fr om a list of availabl e applications which can be run in t andem with your music.
Changing the Theme Col or Y ou can cust omize your phone’ s display appearanc e by sel ecting a c olor scheme t o r eflect y our personality . T o change the display’ s theme col or: 1. Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Display > Main Scr een > Skins .
Changing the Clock Display Choose whether you want y our phone’ s clock to be display ed in anal og mode, digital mode, or with time and date. T o change the clock’ s appearance on the s tandby scr een: 1. Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Display > Main Scr een > F or egr ounds > Cl ock/Cal endar .
Changing the Keypad Light Time Length The k eypad light setting l ets you sel ect how l ong the ke ypad is backlit after any k eypr es s is made. T o change the keypad light setting: 1. Sel ect Main Menu > Settings > Display > Keypad Light . 2.
Location Settings Y our phone is equipped with a Location f eatur e for use in connection with l ocation-based servic es. The Location f eatur e all ows the network to detect y our position. T urning Loc ation off will hide your l ocation fr om every one ex cept 911.
Messaging Settings Staying c onnected to your friends and f amil y has nev er been easier . With your phone’ s advanc ed messaging c apabilities, you c an send and r eceive many diff er ent kinds of te xt messages without placing a v oic e call. TTY Use With Pivot Servic e TTY (also known as a TDD or T ext T elephone) is a t el ec o mm un ic a t i o ns de vice that all ows people who ar e deaf, har d-of-hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, to c ommunicat e by tel ephone. Y our phone is compatibl e with select TTY de vices.

Restricting Y our Phone Ther e may be occasions when y ou want to limit the number s your phone c an call. Y ou can use the Limit Calls setting to do just that. (The Limit Calls setting does not appl y to incoming calls, c alls made to 911.) T o r estrict y our phone: 1.

Setting Y our Phone’ s Roam Mode Y our phone allows y ou to c ontr ol your r oaming capabilities. By using the Roaming menu option, you c an determine which signals your phone ac c epts. Set Mode Choose fr om thr ee diff er ent settings on your du a l- ban d phone to c ontr ol your r oaming experienc e.
Using Call Guar d Y our phone has two ways of al erting you when you ar e r oaming off the Sprint National Network: the onscr een r oaming icon and Call Guar d. Call Guar d mak es it easy to manage your r oaming char ges by r equiring an e xtra st ep bef or e you can plac e or answer a r oaming call.
Using Data Roam Guar d Y ou will be asked if y ou want to c ontinue using your br owser or other online applications when y ou ar e in a data r oaming ar ea. When Data Roam Guar d is turned off, your phone will est ablish or maintain a data c onnection in a data r oaming ar ea without asking you f or permission.

Viewing History Y ou’ll find the Call History f eatur e very helpful. It is a list of the last 50 phone number s (or Contacts entries) f or calls y ou placed, ac cepted, or mis sed.
Call Hist ory Options F or additional information and options on a particular c all, highlight a Call Hist ory entry and pr ess . This featur e displays the date and time of the c all, the phone number (if availabl e), and the call er’ s name (if the number is alr eady in your Cont acts).
