7 Getting Started Installing the SIM Card and Battery 1 Remove the battery cover Press the battery cover release latch. The battery cover should lift off easily. 2 Remove the battery Lift the bottom edge of the battery, and then carefully remove it from the battery compartment.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 8 3 Install the SIM card Slide the SIM card into the SIM cardholder. Make sure that the gold contact area on the card is facing downward. To remove the SIM card, pull it gently in the opposite direction. 4 Install the battery First, insert the top of the battery into the top edge of the battery compartment.
9 5 Charging your phone Lift the charger port cover on the top of your GR501. Insert the charger connector into the phone (the "B" side of the connector must face up when connecting to the phone), and then insert the plug into the wall socket.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 10 Installing a Memory Card You can expand the memory available on your phone using a microSD™ memory card. The GR501 supports microSD™ memory cards with up to 16 GB of memory. TIP! A memory card is an optional accessory.
11 Screen Icons The table below describes various indicators and icons that appear on the phone's display screen. ICON DESCRIPTION Multitasking Network signal strength (number of bars will vary) .
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 12 Touch Calibration Adjust your touch screen for ease of use. Touch and press the "+" markers to calibrate the screen. • Once you’ve finished calibrating your screen, Save the settings. Note: To reset the touch calibration, touch , and then touch the tab.
13 Start Up Guide After you insert your SIM card and the battery and turn on the GR501, the Start Up Guide will appear on the screen. Touch Start to begin the Start Up Guide. Touch to play the animated Guide for the topic displayed. Or, touch to move to the next topic and Guide.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 14 General Features Making a Call 1 Make sure your phone is on. 2 Touch , and then enter a phone number using the touch pad. Or slide open the qwerty keypad, and enter a phone number using the qwerty keys. To edit a number on the display screen, simply press the key briefly to delete one digit at a time.
15 Ending a Call When you have finished a call, press the [END] key. Making a Call from Contacts You can store frequently called names and phone numbers in the SIM card as well as in Contacts in the phone's memory. Dial a number by simply selecting a name in Contacts and pressing the [SEND] key.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 16 5 Press to end the call, or close the handset. Note: The video call may take some time to connect. Please be patient. While the video call is connecting, you will see your own image; when the other party answers, his or her image will appear on the screen.
17 Answering a Call When you receive a call, the phone rings, and the phone icon appears on the screen. If the caller can be identified, the caller’s phone number (or name if stored in your Address Book) displays. 1 Press the [SEND] key. Or unlock the screen, and touch .
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 18 Setting Profiles Press either of the side volume keys. Set your Ringtone to Vibrate All, Alarm Only, or Silent All. You can also adjust the touch-tone volume and vibration intensity on the Touch-tone tab.
19 Vibration Mode (Quick) Activate Vibration Mode by touching and holding on the dial pad. You can also adjust Vibration Mode by pressing and holding the side volume keys. The phone will display "Vibrating Mode On". If you want to turn Vibration Mode Off, touch and hold again.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 20 Entering Text Use the phone’s touch pad to enter alphanumeric characters. For example, saving names in the Address Book, writing a message, and scheduling events in the calendar all require you to enter text. You phone supports the following text input modes.
21 Using T9 Mode T9 predictive text input mode allows you to enter words easily using a minimum number of keystrokes. As you touch each key, the phone starts displaying the characters it predicts you are typing, based on a built-in dictionary. As new letters are added, the word changes to reflect the most likely word candidate in the dictionary.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 22 To delete letters, touch . Touch and hold down to delete the entire text entry. Note: Pressing the [END] key will save your unsaved message in the Drafts folder.
23 Using 123 (Numbers) Mode When in 123 Mode, you can enter numbers in a text message (e.g., a telephone number) more quickly. Touch the keys corresponding to the digits you want before manually switching back to the appropriate text entry mode.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 24 To enter a symbol in the text entry field, press the key, and then select a symbol on the touch screen. Or, to enter a symbol using the qwerty keys, just press , and then press the corresponding key. To return to ABC mode, press again.
25 Note: When you use the Touch Keypad, you can only enter a limited number of special characters. For example, you can only enter "à" and "â" when you press the "a" key repetitively on the Touch Keypad. Using Korean Mode Allows you to type Korean characters when you set the language to Korean.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 26 Contacts On the standby screen, touch , and then touch . The following Address Book submenus will appear. Contact List This menu allows you to save and manage contact address information. With Contact List, you can add new addresses or search for existing contacts by name.
27 New Contact Use this menu to add a new contact address. Enter contact information such as name, phone number, email address, group information, image, ringtone, and memo. 1 On the standby screen, Touch , and then touch . 2 Touch to set a Picture ID for a contact using a saved picture from Pictures or by taking a new picture of the person.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 28 • Enter the first name, last name, or both. • Enter up to five different numbers. Touch to set the number as a Speed Dial. • Enter an email address. • Select a Group for the contact. • Set a ringtone for the contact, or leave the default ringtone.
29 • Your Voicemail is already set to speed dial 1. This is a default setting that cannot be changed. Touch the speed dial number you want to assign a contact to, and then touch . • This will open your address book. Touch the contact you want to assign to that number twice.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 30 Service Number You can view a list of Service Dial Number (SDN) assigned by your network provider. These numbers could include Directory Assistance; Customer Service and Taxi, and voicemail numbers. You may see the names of the available services.
31 In-Call Menu Your phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. To access these functions during a call, touch to unlock the screen, and then touch . During a Call The menu displayed on the handset screen during a call is different from the default menu displayed when on the Standby screen.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 32 Answering an Incoming Call To answer an incoming call when your handset is ringing, simply press the [SEND] key, or touch . Your handset also alerts you to an incoming call while you are already on a call. A tone will sound in the earpiece, and the display will show that a second call is waiting.
33 WARNING: Because of increased volume levels, do not place the phone near your ear while the speakerphone is enabled. Conference Calls The conference call service allows you to have a conversation with more than one party at a time. This feature is only available if your network service provider supports it.

35 Your Standby Screen From here, you can access all then menu options, make a quick call, and view the status of your phone, as well as many other actions. Touch Screen Tips The standby screen is a great place to get accustomed to the touch screen. To select an item, touch the icon accurately.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 36 The Quick Keys The quick keys on your standby screen provide easy, one-touch access to your most used functions. Touch to make a call using the touch Dialing Keypad. Enter the number as you would with a normal keypad, and then touch , or press the hard key.
37 Home Screen Allows you to use Widgets and even add them to your Home screen. • Click to open the Home Screen. • Drag a Widget from the roll-out Menu onto the Home screen.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 38 • First, touch on the standby screen. Touch and hold down . • Select to choose a contact. You can choose up to six contacts for each page. • If you want to delete a contact from the screen, touch . • Touch to align the contacts on the screen.
39 Note: Touch , and the contact will have a slight shadow around it. If you slightly shake or move the phone, the contacts will float on the screen. Touch again and the contacts will be fixed and not change with the phone’s status. • Touch to finish editing the Contacts on the screen.

41 • Set your profile by touching . You can set your profile to Normal, Ring and Vibration, Ring after Vibration, or Silent and Vibration. • To send a Text message, touch . To send a Email, touch . To check your Voicemail, touch . • To use IM, choose from .

43 Messaging This menu includes functions related to SMS (Short Message Service), MMS (Multimedia Message Service), voicemail, and your network's service messages.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 44 Messaging Inserting Multimedia files in outgoing messages is easy. Press the button, and then select one of the options below: • Picture: Preview the selected picture. Then touch to insert the selected picture. • Audio: Insert audio from your saved Audio files.
45 • Template - Text: You can easily insert frequently used sentences into your text message. - Multimedia: Preset multimedia templates are available. - Signature: Enter a signature you create yourself. For further details, see page 51. • More: Allows you to insert Subject, vCard, vCalendar, vNote, vTask, or Contact.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 46 • Delivery Options - Delivery Receipt: If this is set to On in this menu, you can check whether your message was sent successfully. - Reply via Same Message Center: Set this to On or Off . • Save to Drafts: Saves the selected message to Drafts.
47 - Delivery Options: Priority , Delivery Receipt , Reply via Same Message Center , Add Cc , and Add Bcc . - Edit Message: Return to message editing mode. - Save to Drafts: Saves the selected message to Drafts. - Text Entry Settings: This menu allows you to set the Text Entry Language .
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 48 Note: If you see the message “No space for USIM messages,” you should delete some messages from your Inbox. If you see the message “No space for messages,” you can delete either messages or files to free up space.
49 • Extract Data: Make a voice call, or send a message. You can save the number as follows: As New or Updating Existing contact. • Copy to SIM or Move to SIM: Copy/move a message to the Phone. • Message Details: View information about received messages: message Type, Subject, Sender's address, and message Time.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 50 IM The Instant Messaging feature can only be used with the support of the network operator or communities such as Windows Live™ and Yahoo!® Messenger. For Instant Messaging users, a valid User ID and Password is required to log in and exchange messages as well as check online status.
51 Offline Menu Sign In This allows users to log in by filling in the User ID and Password. Note: Once the User ID and Password are saved, you will not be required to type them in again during the Log-in process. This feature is optional. Sign Out It begins the log-out process.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 52 • Log In 1. Highlight the ID entry field, and then touch and type in your existing email ID. 2. Touch the Password field to highlight it, and then enter your password. Quick Tip: Your password is case sensitive. Press the button on the keypad to change to lowercase or uppercase.
53 Outbox Outbox is a temporary storage place for messages waiting to be sent. When you press the [SEND] key, you can make a call to the recipient number of the selected message. If the message is not sent from the Outbox, you will receive a sound alert along with a Message Sending Failure notice on the screen.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 54 These options are available when you select a message in Outbox. • Make Video Call: Make a video call to the sender. • View Status: Shows message status as failed, sent, or error. • Edit: Allows you to edit the selected message.
55 Message Settings To configure Messaging settings , touch the Quick key on the Standby screen, and then touch Message Settings. Message Alert Set the Sounds and Alert Type here. Save to Set where to save the message. Signature This feature allows you to create your own Text signature.

57 • Send Read Receipt: Allows you to send a message read confirmation mail for a Multimedia Message. • Download Options - Download Without Ask: Allows Multimedia Messages to be downloaded automatically. - Ask Always: Download a multimedia message manually.

59 Web This menu shows you how to access the Internet using the WAP browser. Note: Check the availability of WAP services, pricing, and tariffs with your network operator and/or the service provider of the service you want to use. Service providers will also give you instructions on how to use their services.

63 To launch Applications while on the Standby screen, touch the Quick key , tab , and then . This menu displays the list of Java programs downloaded using WAP. You can select, delete, or view in detail all previously downloaded programs in the Application menu.

69 Camera Album View the Album containing your Pictures and Videos. For more available options, touch . One-by-One View/Sort by/Send/ Print via Bluetooth/Delete/Slide Show/Delete All . Video Touch and the tab, and then choose . • Record Video: Record your own video.

71 Playing Music To listen to music saved on your phone or in the external memory, follow these quick and easy steps: 1 On the Standby screen, touch , and then open the Multimedia tab by touching . 2 Then touch . 3 Select Music Player to view your options.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 72 Adding Music to Your Handset You can add music files to your handset using one or more of the following methods: • Download music and ringtones over the GR501 network directly to your device through the Shop Music link in the GR501 Music Folder or the Ringtones link in the GR501 Media Mall folder.
73 Transferring Music from the Digital Music Service 1 Using your computer, open your preferred PC music management application. 2 Download the selected song to your library. 3 Make sure the microSD™ card is inserted properly into your handset. 4 Use the USB adapter cable to connect your handset to the PC.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 74 Transferring Music using Windows Media Player 1 Open Windows Media® Player on your computer (version 10.0 or higher). 2 Use the USB adapter cable to connect your handset to the PC. When you try to connect the handset to your PC, the handset displays "Connecting as Music Sync.
75 6 Click on the boxes (to the left of the song entry) to select the songs you want to synchronize to your handset. 7 Click the Start Sync button to download the selected songs to your handset. A "synchronization in progress" message appears in the application.

77 Note: If you delete a playlist from the phone, the songs in the playlist will not be removed. They remain in the All Songs folder. Use Music Sync to perform operations like Delete, Move, and Copy. Note: Take note that all the data on your microSD™ card will be deleted if you carry out the below process.

79 • Go to Date: Allows you to jump to a specific date. • Selective Delete: Allows you to delete Old Schedules or All Schedules selectively. • Settings: Allows you set the Default View and Weekly Begin day. Alarm Clock The alarm allows you to set up multiple alarms.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 80 My Stu Calculator The calculator allows you to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. You can enter numbers and operators using the touch keypad. Use the touch key to delete numbers. Tools On the Standby screen, touch and then the tab.
81 - Select Storage Defaults: Set the default storage to Phone Memory or Memory Card. • Touch to start recording. Touch to pause recording. To continue recording, touch again. To stop recording, touch . The recording will be saved automatically. • To start a new recording, touch .
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 82 1 Call <Name or Number>: The phone will only make a call when you say the command "Call" followed by a name stored in the Address Book or a phone number. The phone's voice engine recognizes your words and displays name lists or phone numbers.
83 • Available commands - Yes: Make the phone call. - No: Move to the next unread message. - Cancel: Go back to the main voice command menu. - Exit: Terminate voice command. 5 Time & Date: This command activates when the user says the words "time and date".

From there, you can select any time zone you want to add. • To make it easier, touch and a Globe will appear. Touch the continent, and then choose the city you want to know the time in.
85 The following options are available by pressing in the main Tasks menu: • New Task: Create a new task. • Delete: Lists all available tasks so you can select the ones you want to delete. • Send Task Via: Enables the selected task to be transmitted using Text Message, Multimedia Message, or Bluetooth®.

Tip Calculator This feature allows you to calculate the tip amount quickly and easily based on the total bill as well as the split of the total bill according to the number of people.
87 Other Files When you receive files of an unsupported format (such as .vcs or .vcf) by email, they are saved in this folder. The following options become available when you touch the menu. • Send: Send the selected file by Bluetooth®, Via Message, or To Online Album.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 88 Call Touch and the tab, and then choose . Call Forwarding When this network service is activated, you can direct your incoming calls to another number, for example, to your voicemail number. For details, contact network provider.
89 Send My Number This network service allows you to set your phone number to be displayed to ( On ) or hidden ( Off ) from the person you are calling. You can select Set by Network if you prefer to have different settings for different service providers.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 90 Settings Select Line This feature allows you to manage Alternate Line Service, which provides support for two different phone numbers on your mobile phone. You can select Line 1 or Line 2 and check the current line number in the upper-left corner of the screen.
91 • Call Reject On/Off: Choose whether to reject incoming calls or calls from specific phone numbers. When the Reject All Calls option is set, all incoming calls are routed directly to Voicemail. Reject on List allows you to enable Call Reject for the numbers saved in your Call Reject List.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 92 Settings • Set Time: Enter the current time. Choose the time format using the Time Format menu option: 12 Hours or 24 Hours. You can also set Daylight Saving Time to 1 Hour or 2 Hours. • Auto Update: Select to set the phone to automatically update the time and date according to the current local time zone.
93 Message Tone • Sounds: Shows and plays message tones. Select your preferred Ringtone by touching the ringtone in the list. • Alert Type: Supports six message alert types: Ring Once, Ring Every 2 Min., Ring Every 15 Min., Ring & Vibrate, Vibrate, and Silent.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 94 Fonts Configure the font size and color of the numbers that appear on the Dialing screen when you make a call. Brightness Set the brightness of the display screen. Backlight Timer Use this to set the duration of the touch screen and keypad backlight.
95 Screen Lock This allows you to set the amount of time before your screen is automatically locked. If you set When slider is closed , the screen will lock automatically when you slide down the phone.

97 • PIN Code Request: When the PIN code request feature is set to , you must enter your PIN each time you turn the phone on. Consequently, any person who does not have your PIN cannot use your phone without your approval. Note: Before setting the PIN code request feature to Off, you must enter your PIN.

99 You can also exchange, for example, business cards, calendar items, and pictures. XM Radio and music playback is supported through Bluetooth® headsets. Hands-free profile This icon appears when the phone's hands-free profile is used between it and a hands- free device.

If you would like to search again, touch . • My Bluetooth® Info: Configure the Bluetooth® profile. - Device Name: Change the handset name that is seen by other Bluetooth® devices. - Supported Services: Shows you all services that the handset supports.
L G G R5 01 | U se r Gui de 10 2 • Internet Profiles This menu shows Internet Profiles. You can add, delete, and edit Internet Profiles using the Menu. However, you cannot delete or edit the default configurations provided by GR501. • Access Points This menu shows Access Points.
10 3 Start Up Guide This menu will start the animated guide. Using animated visuals, the guide will help you quickly learn some of the functions of your GR501. For a complete list of Guides in this menu, see page 13. Touch Calibration This menu option allows you to calibrate your touch screen.
