033-2517 Re v . C iMac G5 Backup Battery Replacement Instructions Note: These instructions cover both models the iMac G5,17-inc h and the iMac G5, 20-inch computer s. Follo w the instructions that pertain to your model of computer . F ollow the instructions in this sheet carefully .

4 - iMac G5 Backup Battery Important Things to Kno w 1. A magnetized “L”-shaped Phillips screwdriver is included with the replacement part. 2. Ground yourself when w orking on the computer .
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 5 Opening the Computer 1. T ur n y our computer off by choosing Shut do wn from the Apple ( K ) menu. 2. Disconnect all cables , and unplug the pow er cord from y our computer . 3. Place a soft, clean tow el or cloth on the desk or surf ace.
6 - iMac G5 Backup Battery 4. Locate the three silv er case screws circled belo w . Y ou ma y ha v e to lift the stand to locate the middle case screw . Note: These screws are captiv e; they are part of the displa y/bezel assemb ly and cannot be remo ved.
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 7 Removing the Battery on the original iMac G5 1. T o access the batter y the AirP or t Extreme card may ha v e to be remo ved. This procedure will show y ou how to remo v e and replace the card. 2. Important: Ground yourself .
8 - iMac G5 Backup Battery 3. Locate the AirP or t Extreme card. The batter y is located below the AirP or t Extreme card. Note: If an AirP or t Extreme card is not installed, go on to step 7. 4. Disconnect the antenna cable from the end of the installed AirP or t Extreme card.
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 9 5. Pull the tab on the card to remov e the card from the AirP or t card guide. 6. Reconnect the antenna cable to the hole on the AirP or t card guide.
10 - iMac G5 Backup Battery 7. WIth a plastic tool, thumb , or finger , push the batter y in the direction of the arrow to free the batter y from the metal clip .
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 11 Installing the Replacement Battery on the original iMac G5 1. Remov e the replacement battery from its packaging. 2. Holding the batter y positiv e side up , push the batter y (in the direction of the arrow) under the batter y clip .
12 - iMac G5 Backup Battery 4. Slide the AirP or t Extreme card into the slot until it clicks into place. Connect the AirP or t antenna cable to the AirP or t Extreme card.

14 - iMac G5 Backup Battery 3. Locate the batter y . 4. WIth a flat-blade scre wdriver , plastic tool, thumb , or finger , push the batter y in the direction of the arrow to free the battery from the metal clip.
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 15 Installing the Replacement Battery on the iMac G5 with the Ambient Light Sensor 1. Remov e the replacement battery from its packaging. 2. Holding the batter y positiv e side up , push the batter y (in the direction of the arrow) under the metal clip .
16 - iMac G5 Backup Battery Closing the Computer 1. Replace the cov er so that the slots on the top edge of the co v er mate with the tabs on the displa y housing. 2. Tilt the back co v er slightly and align the top edge with the tabs on the housing. Push the two together as y ou low er the back co v er .
iMac G5 Backup Battery - 17 3. Tighten the three captiv e case screws b y turning them to the r ight. Don’t ov ertighten the screws . 4. Reconnect the pow er cord while the computer is f ace down and then position the computer in the upright position.
