3 Creating y o ur first pr oject Y ou can print photos from y our digital camer a memory card after saving them to your computer. 1 Load paper . F or additional help , see page 8.

5 Learning about the All-In-One Setting up the All-In-One If yo u ha v e not already don e so , follo w the steps on the setup documentatio n to complete the hardware and software installation. If prob lems occur during the setup process , see “Setup troublesho oting” on page 46.
6 4 Scanner unit Access the print car tridges. 5 P aper exit tra y Hold paper as it exits the AIO . The AIO pa per e xit tra y can hold: • 25 sheets of plain paper • 10 sheets of labels • 10 env.
7 Using the contr ol panel The AIO ha s a control panel that lets y ou scan and cop y wit h the press of a button. Note: Both the compute r an d th e AIO must be tur ned on to mak e copies . Black Copy Press to make a b lack and white copy . Pow e r Press to turn on and off.
8 Loading paper T o load most types of paper : 1 Place the pape r ag ainst the right side of the paper sup port with the print side f acing y o u and the t op of the paper f eeding into the pape r support. 2 Squeez e and slide t he paper guide to t he left ed ge of th e paper .
9 Bef ore you begin printing, scannin g, cop ying, or faxing docum ents, see page 6 to determine how m uch the paper e xit tra y can hold. F o llow these guidelines when loading plain and specialty paper in the paper support. Note: Mak e sure y ou select the appropriate paper siz e for y our document.
10 Load up t o Make sure 50 transparencies • The rough side faces you. • The transparencies are desi gned for use with inkjet prin te rs. Note: Since transparencies require more dr ying time, w e recommend that y ou remov e each transpar ency as it e xits and allow it to dry to av oid ink smear ing.
11 Loading your document on the scanner glass Note: Make sure the up per left c or ner of th e front of the item aligns with the arro w at the front corner of the scanner glass. Inser ting the digital camera memory car d Some Le xmar k 3100 Series models suppor t the f ollowing di git al media: 1 Open the top cover .
12 The card reader (if a va ilab le on y our AIO) has f our slots to accommo date these media and a small light t hat blinks indicating the card is being r ead or is transmitting data . Note: Do not remo ve the digital ca mera memo r y card while the light is on or blin king.

17 Using Print Pr operties Print Prop er ties is the software that contro ls the AIO pr inting fu nc tion . Y ou can change the settings in Print Properties based on the type of project yo u want to cre ate. Y ou can ope n Print Proper ties from almost any program: 1 With your document open, click Print .
18 Print Properties tabs All of the print settings are on the thr ee main tabs of the Print Properties softwar e: Quality/ Copies, P aper Setup , and Print La yout. Note: F or additiona l inf or mation about these settings , right-click a setting on the screen , and then select t he What’ s This? item.

21 Using the Lexmark Photo Editor Use the Le xmar k Photo Editor softw are to edit g raphics . T o open the Le xmar k Photo Editor , click Start Programs Le xmark 3100 Series Lexmark Photo Editor . The Le xmark Photo Editor displa ys. Use the touch- up tools to ed it y our gr aphic.
22 Accessing the Memory Card Mana ger The Le xmark Memory Card Manager (a v ailab le on some models) giv es yo u se v e ral option s f or transf e rring photos from y our digital ca mer a memor y card to your computer’ s hard disk. There are thre e wa ys to access the Le xmark Memor y Card Manager : • Insert a digital camer a memor y card.
23 W orking with digital photos Most digital c ameras use a m emor y c ard to store p hotos. Inser t the digital camera memory card into yo ur AIO to access photos stor ed on the card. Then, sa v e them to your co mputer using the so ftwa re. Y ou can now print yo ur photo s.
24 Finding y our photos Fr om a computer 1 Open the Le xmark All-In-One Center ( see page 13). 2 Click the Sa ved Images tab . 3 Click Sho w Folders . 4 In the directory in the right panel, select the f older where you r photos are stor ed.

36 Fax in g The f ollowing section giv es y ou basic f axing information. Note: DSL (digital subscriber line), ISDN (integ r ate d services digital netw ork) and cable modems ar e not f ax modems and are not supported. Sending a fax The f ollowing steps lead you t hrough sending a f ax using the computer modem.
37 Creating fun pr ojects Y ou can create other fun pr ojects , such as photos , cards, env elopes, transpar encies , iron-on transf ers, a nd more . 1 Open the Le xmark Solution Center (see page 19). 2 Click How T o . 3 Select a project fr om the list.
38 Maintenance Replacing print car tridges The Le xmark 3100 Series uses the f ollowing car tridges: Note: In order to print, tw o car tridges must be installed. Eith er a bl ac k or photo car tridge may be used with t he color car tridge. F or information about ordering supplies , see Maintena nce on page 20.
39 Installing the cartridg es 1 If you are installing ne w car tridges, remov e the storage unit (photo car t ridg e only), sticker and transpare nt tape fro m the botto m of the car tr idges. Warning: Do not touch or remo ve the gold co ntact areas on the bac k and bottom of t he car tridges.
40 Specifying car tridge settings in the printer software Bef ore you specify the print car tr idge settings in the printer software, install the car tridges. F or help , see “Installing the cartr idges” on page 39. 1 Open the Le xmark Solution Center (see page 19).
41 Cleaning the print ca r tridge nozzles T o improv e print quality , you ma y need to clean the print car tr idge nozzles. Clean the nozzles when: • Characters are no t pr inting com p let ely . • White dashes appear in g raphics or printed te xt.
42 3 Hold the damp cloth ag ainst the gold nozzle area f or about three seconds . Gently blot and wipe dr y in one direction (this pre vent s the colors in th e color car tridg e from mixin g). 4 Hold a clean, damp section of clot h against the contacts f or about three second s.
43 Preserving the print car tridg es T o ensure the longest lif e from your print car tridges and optimum perf or mance from y our All-In-One: • K eep a new print car tridge in its packaging until y ou are ready to install it. • K eep your photo cartridge in the print car tridge storage unit when not in use.

46 Setup tr oub leshooting Use this section to solv e prob lems y o u ma y have during setup . P ower light does not come on 1 Make sure the pow er supply is correctly inser ted into the AIO (see page 6). 2 Chec k the pow er supply connections. 3 Press Po w e r on the control panel.
47 AIO is not communicating with the computer 1 Disconnec t and re co nn e c t bo th ends of th e USB cable. F o r he lp, ref er to the setup documen tation. 2 Unplug the AIO from t he electrical wall outl et, and then re co nnect the pow er supply . Press Po w e r if you r AIO did not pow er on.
48 Printing tr oubleshooting A blank page prints 1 Make sure you remove the stick er and transpar ent tape fr om both print car tridges. Fo r help installing print car tridges, see page 39. 2 Make sure the print car tr idges are properly installed (see page 39).
49 V ertical lines are jagged or edges are not smooth 1 Adjust the Quality/Speed set ting in Print Proper ties (see page 18). F or best pr in t qu alit y , select Better or Best . 2 Align the print car tridges. T o align the print car tridges: a Open the Le xmark Solution Center (see page 19).
50 Scanning, cop ying, and faxing tr oubleshooting Scanning or using a scanned image with a software program takes a long time or freezes the computer Low er the scannin g resolution. Scann ing resolution is m uch diff erent than printing resolution and is genera lly set much lower .
51 Edge of the copy does not print Make sure: • The or ig in al is prope r ly or iented on the gla ss (se e page 11). • The area y ou want to cop y is not larger than the printable ar ea of the page . Apply the Fit-to-pag e f eature. T o apply the Fit-to-pag e f eature: 1 Open the L e x mar k All-In-One Center (see page 1 3).
52 Fax function does not w ork If yo u are ha ving trouble sending or rece iving f axes , mak e sure: • The computer and the AIO are on. • The computer is connected t o a phone line . A phone connection is required f or fa xing to func tio n. • Y ou hav e a working f ax modem installed on y our computer .
53 Remo ving and reinstalling the software If the AIO software is not fu nctioning pr oper ly or a com munications e rror message dis plays when you try to use the AI O , you may need to remove and then rein stall the AIO software. 1 F rom the desktop, click Start Programs Lexmark 310 0 Series Uninstal l Lexmar k 3100 Series .
54 Setting the AIO as the default printer Windows 9 8 and Windo ws Me user s: 1 Click Start Settings Printers . 2 Right-click the Lexmar k 3100 Series printer icon. 3 Make sure: • Set as Default is selected. • Pa u s e P r in ti ng is not selected.
