Chapter 2. Installing or r eplacing har dware This chapter provides instructions on how to install or r eplace har dware for your computer . Attention: T o pr event possible damage to your comput er , do not remove the comput er cover and install or replace int ernal parts by yourself.

Using recovery media This section provides instructions on how to use recovery media on the Windows 7 oper ating system.
1. F rom the Windows deskt op, click Start ➙ All Pr ograms ➙ L enovo ThinkV antage T ools ➙ Enhanced Backup and Restore . The Rescue and Recovery pr ogram opens. 2. In the Rescue and Recovery main window , click the Launch advanced Rescue and Recovery arrow .

Solving recovery pr oblems If you ar e unable t o access the Rescue and Recovery workspace or the Windows envir onment, do one of the following: • Use a r escue medium to start the Rescue and Recovery workspace. See “Cr eating and using a r escue medium” on page 18 .
Chapter 4. Using the Setup Utility pr ogram Y ou can use the Setup Utility progr am to view and change the congur ation settings of your computer , regar dless of which oper ating system you are using. However , the oper ating system settings might override any similar settings in the Setup Utility progr am.
P assword considerations A password can be any combination of up t o 64 (1 to 64) alphabetic and numeric char acters. F or security reasons, it is r ecommended to use a str ong password that cannot be easily compr omised. T o set a str ong password, use the following guidelines: Note: The Setup Utility pr ogram passwor ds ar e not case sensitive.
Enabling or disabling a device This section pr ovides instructions on how t o enable or disable user access to a device. SA T A Contr oller When this option is set t o Disabled , all devices connect ed to the SA T A connectors (such as the har d disk drive and the optical drive) are disabled and will not be displayed in the syst em congur ation.
Viewing or changing the startup device sequence This section provides instructions on how to view or permanently change the congur ed startup device sequence. T o view or permanently change the congur ed startup device sequence, do the following: 1.
