xxii OPERATION GUIDE Precautions for Use Cautions when Us ing the Machine WARNING: Do not place metallic objects or containers with water (flower vases, flower pots, cups, etc.) on or near the mach ine. This situation presents a danger of fire or electrical shock should they fall inside.
OPERATION GUIDE xxiii CAUTION Do not pull the power cord when removing it from the ou tlet. If the power cord is pulled, the wires may become br oken and there is a danger of fire or electrical shock. (Alwa ys grasp the powe r plug when removing the power cord from the outlet.

Do not open the upper front cover, turn off the powe r switch, or pull out the power plug during printing . When lifting or moving the ma chine, contact your service repre sentative.

Maintenance 3-4 OPERATION GUIDE Replenishing T oner This section explains how to replac e the toner container. When repla cing the toner cont ainer, always replace the waste toner bo x at the same time. If this box is full, t he printer may b e damaged or co ntaminated by the waste toner that may spill over the box.
Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE 3-5 3 Grasp the handle on the toner container, push the lock lever u p again and gently lift the toner container. 4 Seal up the old toner contain er with the supplied pl astic bag and dispose of it. 5 Lightly tap the new toner on the top 5 to 6 times.
Maintenance 3-6 OPERATION GUIDE 6 Thoroughly shake th e toner container (i n the direction of the arrows) ten times or more to loosen and mix the toner inside. 7 Grasp the handle on the toner co ntainer and insert the toner containe r along the rail of the printer.

Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE 3-11 Cleaning the Printer Cleaning the Filters When replacing the tone r container, also clean the filte rs. 1 Open the MP tray. 2 Remove the filters from the printer. Press in the tabs on the top filter while removing it. 3 Press in the tab on the right filter while removing it.
Maintenance 3-12 OPERATION GUIDE 4 Clean the filters using a vacuum cleaner or a dr y cloth. Do not wash the filters nor use the cleaning brush supplied with the machine. 5 After cleaning, replace the filters in their origin al positions. After cleaning the filters, proceed to next section.
Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE 3-13 The Inside of the Printer To avoid print quality problems, the interior of the printer must be cleaned. 1 Open the front cover all the way. 2 Remove the blue colored clea ning brush. 3 Pull up the lock lever on the left side of the printer , and open the left cover 1.

The troub leshooting procedure for each type of problem is explained below. If you still cannot solve the problem, contact your service representative.

Troubleshooting 4-14 OPERATION GUIDE Correcting a Paper Jam The Paper jam message is disp layed on the message display when paper becomes stuck in the paper tran sport system, the paper feed timing is incorrect, or paper fails to feed at all. Th e jam can be corrected by removing the pa per.
Troubleshooting OPERATION GUIDE 4-15 When the jammed paper has been removed, open an d close the printer’s front cover . Then the p rinter autom atically warms up, goes o n-line, and continues printing. Dependin g on the point at which the jam occurred, the printer may or may not print the ja mmed page.
Troubleshooting 4-16 OPERATION GUIDE Paper Cassette The following proc edure also applie s to the optional paper fe eder. 1 Pull out the paper cassett e. 2 Remove the jammed paper while taking care not to tear it. If the paper has been torn, remove all the scraps from the inside the printer.
Troubleshooting OPERATION GUIDE 4-17 MP T ray Paper is jammed at the MP tray. Remove the jammed paper using th e procedure given below. 1 Remove the paper jamme d at the MP tray. 2 If the jammed paper remain s at the MP tray, pull up the lever and remove the jammed pap er.
