2 Preparation before Use 2-3 Determining the Connection M ethod and Prep aring Cables Check the method to connect the equ ipment to a PC or netw ork, and pr epare the necessary c ables. 2 Preparation before Use 2-5 Connecting Cables Follow the steps below to connect cables to the machine. 1 Turn the main power switch off (O). 2 Connect the machine to the PC or your network device. When using the network interface, r emove the cap. When connecting the network cable, c onfigure the network.
Preparation before Use 2-6 Power On/Off Power On When the main power indicator is lit... Press the Power key. When the main power indicator is off... Turn the main power switch on. IMPORTANT: When turning off the main power swit ch, do not tur n on the main po wer switch again immediat ely.
2 Preparation before Use 2-7 Power Off Before turning off the main power switch, press the Power key on the operation panel to off. Make sure that the memory indicator is off before turn ing off the main power switch.
Preparation before Use 2-8 Auto Low Power Mode Auto Low Power Mode automatically switches the mach ine into Low Power Mode if left idle for 2 minutes. Sleep and Auto Sleep Sleep To enter Sleep, press the Power key.
2 Preparation before Use 2-9 Switching the Language for Display [Language] Select the language displayed on the Message Display. Use the procedure below to select the lan guage. 1 Turn on the main power switch. 2 Press the System Menu/Counter key on the main unit operation p anel.

2 Preparation before Use 2-11 Setting Date and Time Follow the steps below to set the local date a nd time at the pl ace of installation. When you send an E-mail using the transmis sion function, the date and time as set here will be printed in the header of the E-mail message.

Preparation before Use 2-14 Network Setup (LAN Cable Connection) The machine is eq uipped with network in terface, which is compatible with netw ork protocols such as TCP/IP (IPv4), TCP/IP (IPv6), IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, IPSe c, and AppleTalk. It enables network printing on the Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, NetWar e and othe r platfor ms.

Preparation before Use 2-16 Inst alling Sof tware Ensure the printer is plugge d in and connected to the PC before installing the p rinter driver from the CD-ROM. Inst alling the Sof tware in Windows If you are connecting this printe r to a Windows PC, follow the next steps to install the printer driver.

2 Preparation before Use 2-19 Custom Mode Use Custom Mode if you want to specify the printe r port and s elect the so ftware to be installed. For example, if you do not want fonts installed on your co mputer to be replaced, select Custom Mode and deselect the Font s checkbox in the utility tab.

Preparation before Use 2-28 COMMAND CENTER (Settings for E-mail) COMMAND CENTER is a tool used for tasks such as verifyin g the operating statu s of the machine and chan ging the settings f or security , network prin ting, E -ma il transmission and advanced networking.
2 Preparation before Use 2-29 Sending E-mail Specifying the SMTP settings allows you to send images loaded onto this machine as E-mail attachments. To use this function, this machine must be conn ected to a mail ser ver using th e SMTP pr otocol.
Preparation before Use 2-30 2 Enter the correct settings in each field. The settin gs to be sp ecified in the SMTP setting s screen are shown b elow . 3 Click Submit. Item Descripti on SMTP Protocol Enables or d isables SMTP protocol. T o use E-mail, this protocol must be enabled.
2 Preparation before Use 2-31 Sharing PC Folder To use Scan to SMB (PC) function, a "shared folder" must be set up with the destination comp uter to receive data. IMPORTANT: To use Scan to SMB (PC) function, the mach in e must be connected to a TCP/IP network.

2 Preparation before Use 2-35 Loading Paper Paper can be loaded stand ardly in the cassette and the mult i purpose tray. A paper feeder is also availa ble as an option (refer to Optional Equipm ent on Appendix-2 ).
Preparation before Use 2-36 Loading Paper in the Cassettes The standard cassette will each hold plai n paper, recycled paper or color paper. The standard cassette holds up to 50 0 sheets of A4 or smaller plain paper (80 g/m 2 ).
2 Preparation before Use 2-37 3 Pull the release lever on the left side guide and slid e to the desired paper size. 4 If you are going to set paper that is longer than A4, pull out the extension cassettes pushing the lock lever one by one and adjust them to the desired p aper size.
Preparation before Use 2-38 NOTE: Do not load more paper t han will fit under the load limits o n the paper gu ides. The cassette holds up to 500 sheet s of A4 or smaller plain paper (80 g/m 2 ). 7 Set the stack of paper so that it is under the clips as shown.
2 Preparation before Use 2-39 Loading Paper in the Multi Purpose T ray The multi purpose tray will hold up to 100 sh eets of A4 or smalle r plain paper (80 g/m 2 ). The multi purpose tray accepts paper size s from A4 to A6 and Hagaki and from Legal to Statement-R, and 16K.
Preparation before Use 2-40 4 Align the paper with the paper guid es and inse rt as far as it will go. NOTE: If the paper is c onsidera bly curled in one directio n, for example, if the paper is already printed on on e side, try to roll the p aper in the opp osite dire ction to counteract the curl.
2 Preparation before Use 2-41 Loading Envelopes 5 envelope may be loaded in the multi pur pose tray. Acceptable envelope sizes are as follows. To print on envelopes, press the button s in the rear unit to change to envelope mode . 1 Open the rear unit.
Preparation before Use 2-42 3 Close the rear unit. 4 Follow the steps of Loading Paper in the Multi Purp ose T ray on page 2-39 . NOTE: When pr inting on pla in paper , pr ess the two envelope buttons (gre en) to change the p aper feed mode to plain paper mode.
2 Preparation before Use 2-43 Specifying Paper Size and Media The default paper size setting for cassette, for multi pur pose tr ay and fo r the optional pap er feeder (casse ttes 2 to 4) is [Letter], and the default media type setting is [Plain]. To fix the type of paper to be used in cassettes, specify th e paper size and media type set ting.

Preparation before Use 2-48 Loading Originals Follow the steps below to load originals for copying, sending or storin g. Placing Original s on the Platen You may place books or maga zines on the platen in addition to ordi nary sheet originals. 1 Open the document pr ocessor.
2 Preparation before Use 2-49 Loading Originals in th e Document Processor The document processor au tomatically scans each sheet of mu ltiple originals. Both side s of two-sided originals are scanned. Originals Supported by the Docume nt Processor The document processor supp orts the following types of origin als.
Preparation before Use 2-50 2 Place the originals. Put the side to be scanned (or the first side of two-sided originals) face-up. Slide the leading edge into the document processor as far as it will go. IMPORTANT: Confirm that the original width guides exactly fit the originals.

3-2 Basic Operation Login/Logout If user login administration is enabled, it is necessary to ente r the login user name and password to use the machine. NOTE: Y ou will be unable to log in if you forget your login us er name or login password. In this event, log in with administrator privileges an d change your login user n ame or login passwor d.
3 3-3 Basic Operation One-T ouch Keys and Program Keys The one-touch keys and program ke ys on the operation panel are de scribed below. One-T ouch Key Register destinations to one-tou ch keys, and you can enter the desired dest ination by pressin g the applicable one- touch key.
3-4 Basic Operation ID Card Copy is printed on the Program 1 k e y. W h e n t h e functio ns are de leted by ov erwriti ng Program 1 key , seal the label supplied with the machine and write the function name in it.
3 3-5 Basic Operation ID Card Copy The procedure for using ID Car d copying is explained below. 1 Press the Copy key when the Copy key/ind icator is off. NOTE: If the Message Display is turned of f, press the Power key and wait for the machine to warm up.
3-6 Basic Operation Message Display The following examples explain the me ssages and icons used on the me ssage display. Reference number Meaning 1 Indicates the current st atus of the machin e. Also displays the title of the current menu whenever the operatio n panel is being used.
3 3-7 Basic Operation Copying Follow the steps as below for basic copying. 1 Press the Copy key when the Copy key/ind icator is off. NOTE: If the Message Display is turned of f, press the Power key and wait for the machine to warm up. 2 Place the originals on the platen or in th e document processor .
3-8 Basic Operation 6 Remove the finished copies from the top tray . Adjusting Density Use this procedure to adjust the density when copyin g. NOTE: Y ou may choose Auto mode as the defaul t setting (refer to Dens ity on page 8-45 ). The proced ure for adjusting th e density of copie s is explained below .
3 3-9 Basic Operation Selecting Image Quality Select image quality suited to the type of original. The table below shows the quality options. The procedure for selecting th e quality of copies is explained below. 1 Press the Function Me nu key. Function Menu appears.
3-10 Basic Operation Zoom Copying Adjust the magnification to reduce or enla rge the orig inal image. The following zoom options are available . Auto Zoom Automatically redu ces or enlarge s the original image suitably to the selected paper size. Zoom Entry Manually reduces or enlarges the original image in 1% increments between 25% and 400%.
3 3-11 Basic Operation The procedure for using zoom copyin g is explained be low. 1 Press the Function Me nu key. Function Menu appears. 2 Press the U or V key to select [Zoom]. 3 Press the OK key . Zoom appears. 4 Press the U or V key to select the desired magnification.
3-12 Basic Operation Duplex Copying Produce two-sided copie s. The follo wing duplex opti ons are available. You can also create single-sided copie s from two-sided or iginals or origina ls with facing pages such as books. The following modes are avail able.
3 3-13 Basic Operation The procedure for using two -sided/duplex copying is explained below. 1 Press the Function Me nu key. Function Menu appears. 2 Press the U or V key to select [Duplex]. 3 Press the OK key . Duplex appears. 4 Press the U or V key to select the desired duplex copying mode.
3-14 Basic Operation If you select [2-sided>>2-sid ed], pr ess [Detail] (the Right Select key) and you can select the binding edge of the original. After pressing the OK key , select the binding edg e of the finished copies. After p ressing the OK key , s elect the original setting orienta tion.
3 3-15 Basic Operation Collate Copying The machin e can colla te at the s ame time as it copies. You can use the Collate copy functio n for tasks such as those shown below. Scan multiple original s and deliver complete se ts of copies as required according to page number.
3-16 Basic Operation Printing - Printing from Applications Follow the steps below to print documents from applications. NOTE: T o print the document from applications, inst all the printer driver on your compute r from the supplied CD- ROM (Product Library).
3 3-17 Basic Operation 7 Click Source and select the paper source.
