2 Preparation before Use 2-3 Determining the Connection M ethod and Prep aring Cables Check the method to connect the equ ipment to a PC or network, and prepare the necessar y cables. Connection Example Determine the me thod to connect the equipment to a PC or network by referring to the illustration below.

2 Preparation before Use 2-5 Connecting Cables Follow the steps below to connect cables to the machine. 1 Turn the main power switch off (O). 2 Connect the machine to the PC or your network device. When using the network interface, remove the cap. When connecting the network cable, c onfigure th e network.
Preparation before Use 2-6 Power On/Off Power On When the main power indicator is lit... Press the Power key. When the main power indicator is off... Turn the main power switch on. IMPORTANT: When turning off the main power swit ch, do not turn on the main power switch again immediately.

Preparation before Use 2-8 Auto Low Power Mode Auto Low Power Mode automatically switches the mach ine into Low Power Mode if left idle for 2 minutes. Sleep and Auto Sleep Sleep To enter Sleep, press the Power key.

2 Preparation before Use 2-11 Setting Date and Time Follow the steps below to set the local date a nd time at the pl ace of installation. When you send an E-mail using the transmis sion function, the date and time as set here will be printed in the header of the E-mail message.

Preparation before Use 2-14 Network Setup (LAN Cable Connection) The machine is eq uipped with net work in terface, which is compatible with netw ork protocols such as TCP/IP (IPv4 ), TCP/IP (IPv6), IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, IPSe c, and AppleTalk. It enables network printing on the Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, NetWar e and other platforms.

Preparation before Use 2-16 Inst alling Sof tware Ensure the printer is plugge d in and connected to the PC before instal ling the printer driver fro m the DVD-ROM. Inst alling the Sof tware in W indows If you are connecting this printe r to a Windows PC, follow the next steps to install the printer drive r.

Preparation before Use 2-28 COMMAND CENTER (Settings for E-mail) COMMAND CENTER is a tool used for tasks such as verifyin g the operating sta tus of the machine and changing the settings f or securit y, network p rinting, E -mail transmission and advanced networkin g.
2 Preparation before Use 2-29 Sending E-mail Specifying the SMTP settings allows you to send images loaded onto this machine as E-mail attachments. To use this function, this machine must be conn ected to a mail server u sing the SM TP protocol.

2 Preparation before Use 2-33 In Windows XP , click the View tab and remove the checkmark from Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended) in Advanced settings . 3 Click the OK button to close the Folder Options scree n. 1 Create a folder on the local disk (C).

In Windows XP , click the Secur ity t ab and then click the Add button. 9 Proceed in the same way as in step 5 to add a user to Group or user names . 10 Select the added user , select the Modify and Read & execute perm issions, and then click the OK button.

2 Preparation before Use 2-41 Loading Paper Paper can be loaded stand ardly in the cassette and the mult i purpose tray. A paper fe eder is also available as an option (refer to Optional Equipment on Appendix-2 ).
Preparation before Use 2-42 Loading Paper in the Cassettes The standard cassette will each hold plai n paper, recycled paper or color paper. The standard cassette holds up to 50 0 sheets of A4 or smaller plain paper (80 g/m 2 ). The following paper sizes are supported: Legal, Oficio II, Le tter, Executive, Statement, A4, B5, A5, A6, Folio, and 16K.
2 Preparation before Use 2-43 3 Pull the release lever on the left side guide and slid e to the desired paper size. 4 If you are going to set paper that is longer than A4, pull out the extension cassettes pushing the lock lever one by one and adjust them to the desired p aper size.
Preparation before Use 2-44 NOTE: Do not load more paper t han will fit under the load limits on the paper wid th guides. The cassette holds up to 500 sheet s of A4 or smaller plain paper (80 g/m 2 ). 7 Set the stack of paper so that it is under the clips as shown.
2 Preparation before Use 2-45 Loading Paper in the Multi Purpose T ray The multi purpose tray will hold up to 100 sh eets of A4 or smalle r plain paper (80 g/m 2 ). The multi purpose tray accepts paper size s from A4 to A6 and Hagaki and from Legal to Statement-R, and 16K.
Preparation before Use 2-46 4 Align the pape r with the pape r width gu ides and insert a s far as it will go. NOTE: If the paper is c onsiderably curled in one direction, for example, if the paper is already pr inted on one side , try to roll the p aper in the opposite dire ction to counteract the curl.
2 Preparation before Use 2-47 Loading Envelopes 5 envelope may be loaded in the multi pur pose tray. Acceptable envelope sizes are as follows. To print on envelopes, press the envelo pe switches in the rear cover to change to envelope mode. 1 Open the rear cove r.
Preparation before Use 2-48 3 Close the rear cover . 4 Follow the steps of Loading Paper in the M ulti Purpose T ray on p age 2-45 . NOTE: When pr inting on plai n paper , pre ss the two envelope switches (green) ag ain to change the paper feed mode to plain paper mode.
2 Preparation before Use 2-49 Specifying Paper Size and Media The default paper size setting for cassette, for multi pur pose tr ay and fo r the optional paper feeder ( cassettes 2 to 4) is [Letter], and the default media type setting is [Plain]. To fix the type of paper to be used in cassettes, specify th e paper size and media t ype setting.

Preparation before Use 2-54 Loading Originals Follow the steps below to load originals for copying, sending or storin g. Placing Original s on the Platen You may place books or maga zines on the platen in addition to ord inary sheet originals. 1 Open the document proc essor.
2 Preparation before Use 2-55 Loading Originals in th e Document Processor The document processor au tomatically scans each sheet of mu ltiple originals. Both side s of two-sided originals are scanned. Originals Supported by the Docume nt Processor The document processor supp orts the following types of origin als.
Preparation before Use 2-56 2 Place the originals. Put the side to be scanned (or the first side of two-sided originals) face-up. Slide the leading edge into the document processor as far as it will go. IMPORTANT: Confirm that the original width guides exactly fit the originals.

3-2 Basic Operation Login/Logout If user login administration is enabled, it is necessary to ente r the login user name and password to use the machine . NOTE: Y ou will be unable to log in if you forget your login us er name or login password. In this event, log in with administrator privileges an d change your login user n ame or login pa ssword.
3 3-3 Basic Operation One-T ouch Keys and Program Keys The one-touch keys and program ke ys on the operation panel are de scribed below. One-T ouch Key Register destinations to one-tou ch keys, and you can enter the desired destina tion by pressing the ap plicable one- touch key.
3-4 Basic Operation ID Card Copy is printed on the Program 1 k e y. W h e n t h e functio ns are dele ted by overwr iting Program 1 key , seal the label supplied with the machine and write the function name in it.
3 3-5 Basic Operation ID Card Copy The procedure for using ID Car d copying is explained below. 1 Press the Copy key when the Copy key/ind icator is off. NOTE: If the Message Display is turned of f, press the Power key and wait for the machine to warm up.
3-6 Basic Operation Message Display The following examples explain the me ssages and icons used on the mess age display. Reference number Meaning 1 Indicates the current st atus of the machin e. Also displays the title of the current menu whenever the operatio n panel is being used.
3 3-7 Basic Operation Copying Follow the steps as below for basic copying. 1 Press the Copy key when the Copy key/ind icator is off. NOTE: If the Message Display is turned of f, press the Power key and wait for the machine to warm up. 2 Place the originals on the platen or in th e document processor .
3-8 Basic Operation 6 Remove the finished copies from the top tray . Adjusting Density Use this procedure to adjust the density when copyin g. NOTE: Y ou may choose Auto mode as the default setting (refer to Density on p age 8-45 ). The proced ure for adjusting the de nsity of copies is explain ed below.
3 3-9 Basic Operation Selecting Image Quality Select image quality suited to the type of original. The table below shows the quality options. The procedure for selecting th e quality of copies is explained below. 1 Press the Function Me nu key. Function Menu appear s.
