General Guidelines 2-4 Paper Size Cassettes and an MP tray are available for the paper si zes listed in the table below . The dimensional tolerances are ±0.7 mm (±0.0276 inches) for the length and width. The angle at the corners must be 90° ±0.2°.
General Guidelines 2-5 Paper Weight Equivalence T a ble P aper weight is listed with expression in U.S. bo nd weight (lb) and European metric (g/m²). Th e shaded point indicates the standard weight. T hickness (Caliper) Thick paper is referred to as high-caliper paper and thi n paper as low- caliper paper .
General Guidelines 2-6 Paper Grain When paper is manufactured, it is cut into sheets with the grain running parallel to the leng th (long grain) or parallel to the width (short grain). Short grain paper ca n cause feeding p roblems in the prin ter . All paper used in the printer should be long grain.
S pecial Paper 2-7 Special Paper This section explains prin ting on special pap er . The page printer can use the following types of special paper . In this case, set the media type according to the table below . When using the above types of paper , be sure to use products that are specified for use with photocopiers an d/or page printers.
S pecial Paper 2-8 Adhesiv e-Back ed Labels The basic rule for printing on adhesive l abels is that the adhesive must never come into contact with any pa rt of the printer . Adhesive paper sticking to the drum or rollers will damage the printer . Be sure to feed label p aper from the MP tr ay .
S pecial Paper 2-9 The table below lists the specifications f or adhesive label paper . Postcards F an the stack of postcards and align the edges before loadi ng them in the MP tray . Make sure the postcards yo u are going to set are not curled. F eeding curled postcards may cause paper jams.
S pecial Paper 2-10 T o avoid jamming due to curled envelopes, do not leave mor e than approximately 10 printed envelop es stacked in the paper trays durin g multiple enve lope printing. Envelopes should be fed in the fac e-up position, right edge first.
S pecial Paper 2-1 1 Colored Paper Colored paper should satisfy the same conditions a s white bond p aper , listed i n P aper Specifications on page 2-2 . In additi on, the pigment s used in the paper must be able to withstand the heat of fusing during the printing process (up to 200 °C or 392 °F).
Paper T ype 2-12 P aper Type The printer is cap able of printing under the optimum setting for the type of paper being used. Setting the paper type fo r the paper source from the printer’s operator panel will cause the printer to automa tically select the paper source and print in the mode best suited to that type of paper .
3-1 Chapter 3 Maintenance 3 This chapter explai ns how to replace th e toner container and how to clean parts such as the registration roller and charger wire.
T oner Container Replac ement 3-2 T oner Container Replacement The toner container in the printer should be replaced as soon as the message display shows Toner low or soon after .
