Duplexing 5-20 Duplexing Select paper with high opacity for dup lex (double sided) pr inting. Opacity refers to how effectively paper blocks out what is written on the opposite side of the page. If the paper has low opacit y (high translucency), then the printed data from one side of the page will show through to the other side.

Replacing Consumables 6-3 When replacing a toner cartridge, refer to the foll owing table. For optimum print quality and performance, use on ly approved KONICA MINOL T A toner cartridges for your specific printer type , as listed in the table below .
Replacing Consumables 6-4 Keep toner cartridges: In their packaging until you’re ready to install them. In a cool, dry location away from sunlight (due to heat). The maximum storage temperature is 35 ° C (95 ° F) and the maximum storage humidity is 85% (non condensin g).
Replacing Consumables 6-5 Replacing a Toner Cartridge Note Be careful not to sp ill toner while re placing a toner cartridge. If toner spills, immediately wipe it off with a soft, dry cloth.
Replacing Consumables 6-6 2 Open the front cover . " Before opening the front cover , open T ray 1 if it is not already open. 3 Check that the toner cartrid ge to be replaced has been moved to the front. " Y ou can identi fy the toner cartridge by the color of the hand le.
Replacing Consumables 6-7 4 Pull down the ha ndle on the toner cartridge until the toner cartridge is unlocked a nd moves out slightly toward you. Remove the toner cartridge. " Do not manually rotate the toner cartridge carou- sel. In addition, do not rotate the carousel with force, ot herwise it may be damaged.
Replacing Consumables 6-8 Note Dispose of the empty toner cartr idge according to your local regulations. Do not burn the ton er cartridge. For details, refer to “About T oner Cartridg es” on pa ge 6-2. 5 Prepare a new toner cartridge. 6 Shake the cartridge a few times to distribute the toner .
Replacing Consumables 6-9 8 Align the shaft on each end of the toner cartridge with its hold- ers, and then insert the car- tridge. " Before inserting the toner cartridge, make sure that the color of the tone r car- tridge to be installed is the same as the label on the toner cartridge carou- sel.
Replacing Consumables 6-10 9 Press in the toner cartridge unti l it locks into place. 10 Close the front cover . " The printer must complete a calib ration cycle (less than 2 minutes) after the toner cartridge has been replaced.
Replacing Consumables 6-11 Replacing All Toner Cartridge s at the Same Time Note Be careful not to sp ill toner while re placing a toner cartridge. If toner spills, immediately wipe it off with a soft, dry cloth. By using the REMOVE ALL mode, al l t oner cartridges can be replaced at the same time.
Replacing Consumables 6-12 " It is not poss ible to exit REMO VE ALL mode before the operation is finished (even if the Cancel key is p ressed). If the printer has incorrectly been switche d to REMOVE ALL mode, open, then close the front cover (st ep 2 on page 6-6 and step 10 o n page 6-10) four times to exit REMOVE ALL mode.
Replacing Consumables 6-13 Replacing the Imaging Cartridge When replacing an imaging cartrid ge, refer to the following table. For opti - mum print quality an d performance, use only approved KONICA MINOL T A imaging cartridge for your specific prin ter type, as listed in the table below .
Replacing Consumables 6-14 Note Dispose of the used imaging cartridge accordi ng to your local regulations. Do not burn the imaging cartridge. 3 Prepare the new imaging cartridge. Note Do not touch the PC drum and t h e transfer belt on the imag ing cartridge.
Replacing Consumables 6-15 5 Carefully close the top cover. " The printer must complete a calib ration cycle (less than 2 minutes) after the imaging cartridge has been replaced. If you open the top cover before the message IDLE appears, the prin ter stops and repeats the calibration cycle.
Replacing Consumables 6-16 Replacing the Fuser Unit For optimum pri nt quality and perfo rmance, use only app roved KONICA MINOL T A fuser uni t for your specific printer type. 1 T urn off the printer and discon- nect the power cord. Note There are extremely hot part s within the printer .
Replacing Consumables 6-17 3 Push the blue handles back as far as possible. 4 Grab the blue handles and lift the fuser unit to remove it. Note Do not touch the matching connectors of the fuser unit and the machine.
Replacing Consumables 6-18 5 Prepare a new fuser unit. 6 Pull the fuser se parator levers forward as far as possi ble..
Replacing Consumables 6-19 7 Remove the fuser separator material, and then return the fuser separator levers to their original positions. Note Be careful not to touch the paper exit sensor and the surface of the fuser roller in th e fuser unit.

Maintaining the Printer 7-3 Do not leave the printer ’s covers open for any length of time, especiall y in well-lit places; light may damage th e imaging cartridge. Do not open the printer during printin g. Do not tap media st acks on the printer .
Cleaning the Printer 7-4 Cleaning the Printer CAUTION Be sure to turn off the printe r and unplug the pow er cord before cleaning. However , be sure to turn on the printer when cleaning the print head window.
Cleaning the Printer 7-5 Interior Cleaning the Media Feed Roller 1 Open the top cover . " If there is paper in the output tray , re move it, and then fold up the out- put tray before opening the top cover . 2 Grab the handle and lift it up slightly to the back, and then slowly pull the imaging cartridge out vertically .
