Saf ety inf or mation • This de vice has not been designed for use b y people (including children) with restricted ph ysical, sensor y or intellectual abilities or lack of e xper ience and/or kno wledge, unless they ar e super vised by a r esponsible person (for their own safety) or hav e receiv ed instructions on ho w to use t he de vice.
Risk of electric shock! • Only connect the device to a pr oper ly installed and ear thed mains sock et. The mains v oltage must agr ee wit h that stated on t he de vice’ s specification plate. • Damaged adapters or mains cables should be e x changed immediately b y an aut horised technician or the Customer Ser vice in order to av oid r isks.
• Y ou must not open or r epair t he de vice’ s housing. This can be danger ous and r enders the warranty null and v oid. • Pr otect the device fr om moisture and spr ay ed w ater . Therefor e do not place an y objects f illed with water (e.g. v ases) on or near t he de vice.
• Due to the charging curr ent, only batteries wit h appr opriate c apacities may be charged: Ni-MH batteries: - AA min. 1750 mAh/max. 2700 mAh - AAA min. 750 mAh/max. 1000 mAh Ni-Cd batteries: - AA min. 700 mAh/max. 1000 mAh - AAA min. 300 mAh/max.
• Use the R apid Batter y Char ger e xclusiv ely with t he supplied p owe r adapter r esp. v ehicle-adapter . Do not use the pow er adapter and t he v ehicle- adapter with appliances ot her than t h e R apid Batter y Charger .
• Alw ays stor e batteries out of t he r each of childr en! There is a danger that childr en could sw allow batteries! Due to the poisonous content of batteries t her e is a danger to life! • When char ging batteries nev er leav e the Univ ersal Batter y Charger unsuper vised.
Thunder storms! De vices connected to mains pow er can be damaged during a thunder storm. If ther e is a thunder storm, always r emov e the mains plug fr om the soc k e t.
Notes on handling batteries The de vice uses batteries. Please note t he follo wing on handling batteries: Risk of explosion! Do not thr ow batteries into a fir e. Do not r ec harge batteries. • Nev er open, solder or w eld batter ies. Ther e is a risk of explosion and injur y! • Check batteries regularly .
Commissioning S tationar y operation • R emo v e all components – R apid Batter y Charger , po wer adapter 쐄 , v ehicle-adapter 쐂 and batteries – from the pack aging. • Befor e taking t he R apid Batter y Charger into use, check that all items are complete/av ailable and fr ee of visible damage.
Mobile operation With t he supplied v ehicle-adapter 쐂 y ou can also connect the Rapid Batter y Charger to the 12-V cigar lighter sock et of a v ehicle or into t he 12-V on-boar d po wer supply sock et of a v ehicle. Ther eb y , y ou simply use the vehicle-adapter 쐂 instead of the po wer adapter 쐄 .
Note: Also ensur e that all possible soiling (e.g. r emains of ash) is r emo v ed fr om the inside of the cigar lighter sock et! Other wise, it could lead to a malfunction in the oper ation of the R a.
Note: It is possible that the cigar -lighter only functions with a switc hed-o n v ehicle ignition. If you ar e unsur e, consult the v ehicle handbook. Caution! For v ehicles in whic h the cigar lighter r esp. onboar d pow er sock ets also function with a switched-of f v ehicle ignition: Only use the R apid Batter y Charger with the engine running.
Charging batter ies Danger! Charge ex clusively r apid r echar gable batteries of the types "Ni-Cd" and "Ni-MH". NEVER r ec harge batteries of other types or non-r ec hargable batteries. These ar e not suit- able for r ec harging. This could irr epar ably damage the R apid Batter y Charger and the inser ted batteries.
• Place the selector switch into t he position Ni-MH if y ou want to char ge Ni-MH batter ies. • Place the selector switch into t he position Ni-Cd if y ou want to char ge Ni-Cd batter ies. • Inser t the batter ies into the charging slots .
The v ar ious displays hav e t he follo wing meanings: • The contr ol lamp w blinks r ed: - Checking the inser ted batter ies. - F ull and non-r echar gable batteries are r ecognised. R emo v e the inser ted batteries from the R apid Batter y Charger .
• R emo v e the pow er adapter 쐄 of t he R apid Batter y Charger fr om t he w all sock et and allo w the batter ies to cool do wn. Af ter w ar ds y ou can remo v e t he char ged batteries from the R apid Batter y Char ger .
T imer Contr ol In addition, this batter y charger has a timer contr ol which, af ter 2 hours, automatically switches it o ver to the maintenance charge. This ser v es as an additional pr otection against o ver charging should the charge completion identifier not r eact, possibly due to a defectiv e batter y .
T r oubleshooting The R apid Batter y Charger display s no functions Wit h mains pow er operation: • Check to see if t he lo w -tension plug on t he cable of the pow er ad a p t e r 쐄 is correctly inser ted into t he po wer adapter connection 쐃 .
The inser ted batteries are not being charged: • Check that t he batteries are being inser ted in accor d wit h their polarity . • Check to see if y ou have inser ted batter ies suit- able for c h a r ging into the R apid Batter y Charger .
Cleaning Risk of injury from electric shock: • Ne ver immerse the de vice ’ s par ts into water or other liq uids! • Do not allo w liquid to pene trate the housing. Cleaning the housing: Clean the housing of t he R apid Batter y Charger and the pow er adapter e x clusiv ely with a lightly moistened cloth.
Disposal Ne v er dispose of t he de vice in t he normal household rubbish. Dispose of t he de vice using an appr o ved disposal compan y or using local disposal facilities. This pr oduct is subject to Eur opean Directiv e 2002/96/EC. Please follo w t he currently v alid regulations.
Disposal of batteries! Batteries must not be disposed of in t he household w aste. Ever y consumer is legally obliged to dispose of batteries at a collection site of his community / city district or at a retail stor e. This obligation is intended to ensur e t hat batteries ar e disposed of i n a n e n v i r onmentally safe fashion.
W ar ranty and Ser vice The w ar r anty for t his appliance is for 3 y ears fr om the date of purchase. The appliance has been manufactur ed wit h car e and meticulously e x amined befor e deliv er y . Please retain y our receipt as pr oof of pur chase.
The w ar r anty period will not be extended b y r epairs made under w ar r anty . This applies also to replaced and r epaired par ts. An y damage and defects extant on pur chase must be r epor ted immediately af ter un- packing the appliance, at t he latest, tw o days af ter the purchase date.
