2 1. Introduction 1.1 Preface Dear Custo mer, Thank y ou for purcha sing KM-31BK. In the dig ital age, this pro duct is a g reat home entertainment sy stem. You can en joy movies and music, view photos of prec ious moments, and recor d your favorite TV or movie program and v iew the m whene ver.
3 1.3 Caution This player’s de sign and manufacture has you r safety in mind. In ord er to safely and effectively use this player, plea se read the following before usage. 1.3.1 Usage caut ions User should not modify this player . If a commercial hard disk i s being used, the environmental te mperature should be within +5 °C ~ +3 5 °C .
4 The playe r uses an internal har d disk for data storag e, if y ou hav e a brand new hard d isk, please format first before procee d. You should car efully read the < Freq uently Asked Que stions > chapt er, and chec k our website for the late st infor mation before for matting the har d disk.
5 1.4 Connection 1.4.1 Connecting to a Computer (1) Turn on the device (2) Plug in the type B connector of the USB cable to the KM - 31 BK ’ s USB DEVICE port.
6 1.4.2 USB M ass Storage Device (Flash drive, M P3, USB HDD etc.) Co nnection (1) Turn on the device. (2) Plug in a Flash disk or USB HD D etc. to one o f the USB host po rts of thi s player.
7 2. TV connectio n using composite ( Composite out ) (1) Connect one end of the co mposite (Red, w hite, yellow ) cable to the p layer’s composite jack .
8 In this wa y, you can also enjoy videos, mu sic, and pho tos in the play er on TV. 4. Receiving audio w hen using compon ent. Component connection does no t carry audio.
9 1.4. 4 Digital Audio Device conn ection (1) Plug one end of the c oaxial cable to the player’s coaxial jack. If you are using an optical cable, please plug in t he connector on to t he player’s S /PDIF Optical jack;(not supplied) (2) Plug in the other end of the conne c tor to your digital aud io device.
10 1.4. 5 Pow er connection (1) Make sure the pow er switch is off. (2) Connect the small end of the AC ada ptor t o the player ’s DC IN ja c k . (3) Connect the big end of the AC adaptor to the pow er outlet. 1.4. 6 Netw ork connection (1) Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the play er’s Ethernet socke t .
11 1.5 First T ime Usage 1.5.1 Format Hard di sc For users w ho bought the play er without a HDD inside, and wan t to install a SA TA HDD, please see ” For m at ting a hard driv e” on page 21 for details. 1.5.2 Remote Contro l Install the batteries before using the remote control .

19 3. Getting Started 1. Power on the KM - 31 BK media c enter . The startup logo will appea r . 2. After a few s econd, the sy s tem will enter a gu ide menu. 20 3.2 File Cop y This feature allow s user to copy files fro m a variety of devices. Please view section 9 “File Copy Me nu” for more de t ails. 3.3 Brow ser This feature will ena ble you to brow s e through movies , photo , and mu sic files stored either on a har d drive, USB flash d rive, or your home ne twork.
21 4. Formatting a Hard drive Please use KM-3 1BK direct hoo k up to you TV to format your har d drive for the first time. Y ou can use the KM - 31 BK f ormatting interface within the setup menu page . The hard dr ive can also be formatted t hrough a co m puter .
Format Ha rd D isc 22 Use the naviga t ion button s on your re mote to adjust the Fat32 and NTFS partition. Once you have finished , select the “nex t” icon and press . Otherwise, select the back icon to return to the prev ious menu. 4.2 Formatt ing Y ou will now see the “H ard Disc Format” guide a s it is show n below .
Format Ha rd D isc 23 Press to start formatting on the hard drive. Otherw is e, select the back i c on to return to the prev ious menu. *Formatting will erase the entire dri ve. Please Back -up your data before proceeding. 4.3 Congratulatio n page Once the formatting has been co mpleted, the “C ongratulation page” will be displayed.
24 5. My Recordings The KM - 31 BK m edia center comes w it h a recording function. Y ou simply pres s the b utton and a folder called “M y Recordings” will be crea ted on your hard dr ive. M ovies that have been re corded will be placed in this folder .
25 6. T imer Record Menu The T imer Re c ord menu allows yo u to create , edit and delete recording schedules. It can also display previous recording schedules . The “T im er Record ” page is located in the guide menu. 6.1 Creating a New Schedule (1) Navigate to the “Ti m er REC” pa ge.

30 7. Setup Menu The Setup Men u allows you to configure the KM - 31BK system setting s . T o enter the menu, sele ct “ Setup ” from the Gu ide menu. 7.1 System S ettings (1) Use the naviga t ion button s on the remote c ontrol to select the “ Syste m ” tab from the menu bar .

Setup Men u 32 Use the naviga t ion buttons on the rem ote control t o adjust each setting. Press once you have finish. HDD (Hard drive ) Format Select “ HDD Format ” unde r the “Sy s tem” tab. Select “ Cancel ” if yo u wish not to format the dr ive.
Setup Men u 33 Restore Defaul t Select “Restore de faults”. Select “Ok” to restore to factory d efault. Select “Can c el” to return to the “Syste m” t ab. *Restoring to factory default w ill reset your custom syste m settings to its original man uf acture settings .
Setup Men u 34 Aspect Ratio Select the “Aspec t ratio” setting t o configure the a s pect ratio. Choose one of the following according to the type of television you have: (1) Pan Scan 4:3: Display a w ide picture on the entire screen and cu t s off the redundant portions.
Setup Men u 35 Brightness Select the “B rightne ss ” setting under the “ Video” t ab to adju st the brightness levels. Press the up and dow n buttons on the remote contro l to adjust the brightness level. B rightness le vel can also be pre viewe d.
Setup Men u 36 TV System (1) Select the “ TV sys t em ” setting und er the “Vide o t ab” . (2) Choose “NTSC” or “P AL.” (3) Press to confirm your sele ct ion. *Select “NTSC” if you live in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, Sou th Am erica, etc… *Select “P AL” if you live in other countries.
Setup Men u 37 (5) Press to confir m. *Please view your television manual to see w hat resolution your television support s. 7.3 Recording Settings The recording set t ings on the KM - 31 BK lets users con figure the reco rding quality , time shift, and the recording and time s hift device.
Setup Men u 38 Quality (1) Select the “Q uality “se tting that is lo c ated under the “R ecord” tab. (2) Choose HQ to record in high qualit y . This requires more storage space . The other setting redu c es recording qua lity , but it uses less s t orage space.
Setup Men u 39 Recording Device (1) Select “REC d evice ” und er the “R ecord ” tab . (2) Select “HDD” if you a re recording your content to a h ard drive. Select “U SB” if you are reco rding to an external recording dev ice that is conn ec ted to media c enter via US B.
Setup Men u 40 7.4 Photos Sett ings The KM - 31 BK m edia center also allow s users to view a variety of digital picture s with their ow n c ustom setting s . T o access the photo settings, si m ply select to “Pho t o” tab in the setup m enu. Please view the nex t page with more details for each s etting.

Select “folder” if mus ic will be played fro m a folder . Select “Playli st” if music w ill be played from a customized playli st.
Setup Men u 44 Wired Lan Se t up Before using the netw ork functions, please follow t hese steps fir s t: (1) Connect the KM - 31 BK media center to a rou ter or hub using the Ethern et cable. (2) On Window s XP please enable NetBIOS of TCP/IP for your PC’s networ k card.
Setup Men u 45 DHCP DNS ( AUTO) – Th is s etting w ill automatically assign an I P address to the de vice. Press to automatically a ssign the IP addres s . FIX IP (MANU A L ) - This setting allows users to enter the IP addr ess manually . For further assistant , please conta ct your netwo rk administrator .
46 8. Bro w ser Menu The Browser m enu allow s users to brow se t hrough photo, music, and m ovie files stored on a HDD , external USB de vice, or on you r home netw ork. T o enter the men u, select Brow ser from the Guide m enu page . Once you have enter ed the guide you w ill see a list of devi ces.
Brows er Me nu 47 M y Neighbors: When you are brow sing through NET , you can c hoose the PC na m e fro m the menu or you can s elect “My Neighbors” t o access it. The transcode server softwar e m ust be installed on the c omputer yo u are trying to access through the netw ork in order for i t to show unde r t he “My Neigh bors” folders .

T o enter the menu, sele ct File Cop y from the Guide m enu or select on the remote control. Please follow the s e steps: (1) Select the s ource device by u s ing the up and down buttons on your remote.
