5 Connecting the Speakers and Subwoofer Y ou can connect fi ve speakers (a pair of front speakers, a center speaker , and a pair of surround speakers) and a subwoofer . CA UTIONS: • Use only the speakers of the SPEAKER IMPED ANCE indicated by the speak er ter minals.
6 Connecting Audio/V ideo Components When connecting individual components, refer also to the manuals supplied with them. Analog Connections Audio component connections Use the cables with RCA pin plugs (not supplied). • Connect the white plug to the audio left jack, and the red plug to the audio right jack.
7 DVD player Å To composite video output ı To left/right front channel audio output (or to audio-mixed output if necessary) Note: T o enjoy Dolb y Digital and DTS multi-channel software (including Dual Mono software), connect the D VD pla yer through the digital input/ output terminals.
8 DIGIT AL 1(DVD) DIGIT AL 2(CD) DIGIT AL IN Digital Connections By connecting the recei ver and the source component through the digital terminals, sound reproduction quality will be much impro ved. In addition, you can enjoy multi-channel reproduction and some other con venient functions.
9 Basic Operations The following operations are commonly used when you play any sound sources. Operations hereafter will be explained using the b uttons on the front panel. Y ou can also use the buttons on the remote control for the same functions if they ha ve the same and similar names/marks.
10 Selecting different sour ces for picture and sound While watching pictures from a video source, you can listen to sound of an audio source. • Once you hav e selected a video source, pictures of the selected source are sent to the TV until you select another video source.
11 Listening with headphones: Y ou can enjoy not only stereo software b ut also multi- channel software through the headphones. (Sounds are down-mix ed to the front channels while playing multi-channel software.) 1 Press SPEAKERS ON/OFF to deactiv ate the speakers.
12 When playing software encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS, the following symptoms ma y occur: • Sound does not come out at the beginning of playback. • Noise comes out while searching for or skipping chapters or tracks. In this case, press INPUT DIGIT AL repeatedly to select “DOLBY DIGIT AL” or “DTS SURR OUND.
13 The follo wing basic operations are possible only using the remote contr ol. Muting the Sound Press MUTING to mute the sound thr ough all speakers and headphones connected. “MUTING” appears on the display and the volume turns of f (the V OLUME indicator and its lev el indication go off).
14 Using Preset T uning Once a station is assigned to a channel number , the station can be quickly tuned in. Y ou can preset up to 30 FM and 15 AM stations. T o stor e the pr eset stations Bef ore you start, r emember ... There is a time limit in doing the following ste ps.
15 T o tune in a pr eset station On the front panel: 1 Press FM or AM to select the band. 2 Press FM/AM PRESET 5 or ∞ until y ou f ind the channel y ou want. • Pressing FM/AM PRESET 5 increases the number . • Pressing FM/AM PRESET ∞ decreases the number .
16 Quick Speaker Setup Quick Speaker Setup helps you to easily and quickly register the speaker size and speaker distance according to your listening room to create the best possible surround ef fect. • Y ou can also r egister each speak er’ s information manually .

18 ¶ Speaker distance — FRONT L DIST , FRONT R DIST , CENTER DIST , SURR L DIST , SURR R DIST Set the distance from the listening point within the r ange of 0.3 m (1 ft) to 9.0 m (30 ft), in 0.3 m (1 ft) interv als. • When shipped from the factory , distance for each speaker is set to “3.
19 ¶ Cr ossover fr equency —CROSSOVER Y ou can select the crossover frequency f or the small speakers used. The signals belo w the preset frequency le vel will be sent to and be reproduced by the subwoofer (or by “LARGE” speak ers when “SUBWOOFER” is set to “SUBWOOFER NO”).
20 Setting the Digital Input T er minals When you use the digital input terminals, register which components you hav e connected to the digital input terminals. ¶ Digital Input ter minal —DIGIT AL IN Set the components connected to the digital terminals.
21 Adjusting Sound Y ou can make sound adjustment to your preference after completing basic settings. Basic Procedur e Bef ore you start, r emember ... There is a time limit in doing the follo wing steps. If the setting is canceled before you f inish, start from step 1 again.
22 Y ou can also use the remote control for adjusting the speaker output le vel using the test tone. • Y ou can also adjust the effect le vel for D AP modes and Mono F ilm. T o adjust the speaker output le vel: 1 Press SOUND . The number buttons are acti va ted for sound adjustments.
23 Using the Sur r ound Modes This unit activates a variety of Surround modes automatically . The basic settings and adjustments stored (see pages 16 to 22) are applied automatically .
24 DTS * 2 DTS is another digital signal compression method, dev eloped by Digital Theater Systems, Inc., and enables multi-channel encoding and decoding (1ch up to 6.1ch). • When DTS signal is detected through the digital input, the indicator lights up on the display .
25 • For DTS multi-channel digital softwar e (except 2-channel and Dual Mono software), incoming signals are automatically detected and “DTS SURR OUND” is acti vated. Note: When the Dolby Digital or DTS multi-channel digital signal stops coming in, “PLII MO VIE” will be activ ated.

28 COMPU LINK Remote Contr ol System The COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC’ s audio components through the remote sensor on the receiver .
29 Operating JVC’ s Audio/V ideo Components Y ou can operate JVC’s audio and video components with this r eceiver’s remote contr ol, since control signals for JVC’s components are preset in the remote control. T uner Y ou can always perform the follo wing operations: FM/AM: Alternate between FM and AM.
30 Operating Video Components IMPORT ANT : T o operate JVC’ s video components using the supplied remote control: • Some JVC’ s VCRs can accept two types of the control signals— remote code “ A” and “B. ” Before using this remote control, make sure that the remote control code of the target VCR is set to code “ A.
31 Operating Other Manufactur ers’ V ideo Equipment This remote control supplied for the receiver can transmit control signals for other manufacturers’ TVs, CA TV conver ters, VCRs and DVD players. When operating the other manufacturers’ components, refer also to the manuals supplied with them.
