5 ENGLISH RADIO BASIC OPERA TIONS T o stop sear c hing bef ore a station is received, press the same button y ou have pressed f or searching. Searching a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).
6 ENGLISH Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the following tw o methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong- station Sequential Mem.
7 ENGLISH Notes: • A previously pr eset station is erased when a ne w station is stored in the same pr eset number . • Preset stations ar e erased when the power supply to the memory cir cuit is interrupted (for example, during battery r eplacement).
8 ENGLISH RDS OPERA TIONS T o use Netw ork-T racking Reception, press and hold TP RDS (T raffic Programme/Radio Data System) for more than 1 second. Each time you press and hold the button, Network-T racking Reception modes change as follo ws: Mode 1 The AF indicator lights up but the REG indicator does not.
9 ENGLISH The same programme can be receiv ed on different frequencies. PTY Standby Reception When you press PTY while listening to an FM station, the PTY indicator is lit during reception of a PTY station and the PTY standby mode is engaged. The selected PTY name stored on page 10 flashes for 5 seconds.
10 ENGLISH Selecting your favorite programme for PTY Standby Reception Y ou can select your f avorite programme f or PTY Standby Reception to store in memory . When shipped from the f actor y , “NEWS” is stored as the programme type f or PTY Standby Reception.
11 ENGLISH 4 Press and hold the number button for more than 2 seconds to store the PTY code selected into the preset number you want. The selected code name will flash on the displa y .
12 ENGLISH Changing the display mode while listening to an FM station Y ou can change the initial indication on the display to station name (PS NAME), station frequency (FREQ) or clock time (CLOCK), while listening to an FM RDS station. • See also “Changing the general settings (PSM)” on page 19.

14 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a cassette 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment. The unit turns on and tape play starts automatically . When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically star ts pla ying.
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting cassette ejection Y ou can prohibit cassette ejection and can “loc k” a cassette in the cassette compar tment. Press and hold T APE 23 and 0 f or more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” flashes on the displa y for about 5 seconds, and the cassette is “locked.
16 ENGLISH Other convenient tape functions Skipping the blank portions on the tape Y ou can skip blank portions between the tunes (Blank Skip). When this function is on, the unit skips blank por tions of 15 seconds or more, f ast-forwards to the ne xt tune, then star ts playing it.
17 ENGLISH 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustable items change as follo ws: Indication T o do: Range BAS Adjust the bass. –06 (min.) | +06 (max.) TRE Adjust the treble. –06 (min.) | +06 (max.) F AD* Adjust the front R06 (Rear only) and rear speaker | balance.
18 ENGLISH Recalling the sound modes When “SCM LINK” is set to “LINK ON,” select the source. The sound mode stored in memory for the selected source is recalled. Notes: • Y ou can adjust each sound mode to your prefer ence, and stor e it in memory.
19 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS T o check the current cloc k time or change the display mode Press DISP repeatedly . Each time you press the button, the displa y mode changes as follo ws: • During tuner operation: Notes: * F or the indication change during RDS oper ation, see page 12.
20 ENGLISH 3 Adjust the PSM item selected. 4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to adjust the other PSM items if necessary . 5 Press SEL (select) to finish the setting. 21 ENGLISH T o select the telephone muting – TEL This mode is used when a cellular phone system is connected. Depending on the phone system used, select either “MUTING 1” or “MUTING 2, ” whichev er mutes the sounds from this unit. When shipped from the factory , this mode is deactivated.
22 ENGLISH Attaching the control panel 1 Insert the left side of the control panel into the groo ve on the panel holder . 2 Press the right side of the control panel to fix it to the panel holder . Note on cleaning the connectors: If you frequently detac h the contr ol panel, the connectors will deteriorate .
23 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS W e recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC IN-CAR ENTER T AINMENT dealer for connections. • F or example, if your CD automatic c hang er is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.
24 ENGLISH T o go to the next track or the previous tracks T o go to a particular disc directly Press the number b utton corresponding to the disc number to start its playback (while the CD changer is playing). • T o select a disc number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly .
ENGLISH 25 EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied).
ENGLISH 26 DAB TUNER OPERA TIONS We recommend that y ou use DAB (Digital A udio Broadcasting) tuner KT -DB1500 with your unit. If you ha ve another D AB tuner , consult your JVC IN-CAR ENTER T AINMENT dealer. • Refer also to the Instructions supplied with your D AB tuner.
ENGLISH 27 T o change the display information while tuning into an ensemble Normally ser vice name is shown on the display . If you w ant to change the display inf or mation, press DISP . Each time you press the b utton, the follo wing inf or mation appears on the display f or a while.
ENGLISH 28 5 Press and hold the number button (in this example, 1) you want to store the selected service into for more than 2 seconds. 6 Repeat the above procedure to store other DAB services into other preset numbers. Notes: • A pr eviously preset D AB service is erased when a ne w D AB service is stored in the same pr eset number .
29 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Remedies Inser t the cassette with the exposed tape f acing right. Press and hold T APE 23 and 0 f or more than two seconds.
30 ENGLISH This unit requires v er y little attention, but y ou will be able to e xtend the life of the unit if y ou follo w the instructions below . T o clean the heads • Clean the heads after ev er y 10 hours of use using a wet-type head cleaning tape (av ailable at an audio store).
