5 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS 3 Adjust the volume. 4 Adjust the sound as you want. (See pages 12 – 14.) T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source. “A TT” star ts flashing on the display , and the volume lev el will drop in a moment.
6 ENGLISH Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3).
7 ENGLISH Storing stations in memory Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • A utomatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong- station Sequential Mem.
8 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) man ually . Ex.: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) you want to store stations into (in this example, FM1).
9 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS T o fast-forward or r ewind a tape T o stop fast forward or rewind at any position on the tape, press T APE 23 . T ape play starts from that position on the tape. Note: When the tape r eaches its end while fast-f orw arding , the tape dir ection will be changed automatically .
10 ENGLISH Finding the beginning of a tune Multi Music Scan allows you to automatically start playbac k from the beginning of a specified tune. Y ou can specify up to 9 tunes ahead of or before the current tune. During playback Specify how many tunes ahead of or before the current tune the one you want is located.
11 ENGLISH Playing the current tune repeatedly Y ou can play the current tune repeatedly (Repeat Play). 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while playing a tune y ou want to hear o ver again on a cassette.
12 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound char acter istics to your pref erence. 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as f ollows: 2 Adjust the level. Note: Normally , the +/– buttons w ork as the volume contr ol.
13 ENGLISH BEA T SOFT POP SCM OFF • When “SCM LINK” is set to “LINK ON, ” the selected sound mode can be stored in memory for the current source and the eff ect applies only to the current source . • When “SCM LINK” is set to “LINK OFF , ” the selected sound mode effect applies to an y source.
14 ENGLISH 4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to adjust the other items. 5 T o turn on or off the loudness function. • See page 12 for details. 6 Press and hold SCM until the sound mode you have selected in step 1 flashes on the display . 7 Repeat the same procedure to store other sound modes.
15 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS SEL 4 ¢ CLOCK H CLOCK M LEVEL SCM LINK EXT IN B. SKIP Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H, ” “CLOCK M, ” “SCM LINK, ” “LEVEL, ” “B . SKIP” or “EXT IN*” appears on the display .
16 ENGLISH Canceling Advanced SCM —SCM LINK Y ou can cancel the Advanced SCM (Sound Control Memory), and unlink the sound modes and the playbac k sources . When shipped from the factory , a different sound mode can be stored in memory for each source so that you can change the sound modes simply b y changing the sources.
17 ENGLISH 3 Select the desired mode—“AUDIO 1,” “AUDIO 2” or “OFF .” 4 Finish the setting. Selecting the external component to use—EXT IN Y ou can connect the e xternal component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied).
18 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when lea ving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to tur n off the pow er .
19 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS W e recommend that y ou use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you hav e another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or example, if your CD automatic changer is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.
20 ENGLISH T o go to the next track or the previous tracks T o go to a par ticular disc directly Press the n umber b utton corresponding to the disc number to star t its pla yback (while the CD changer is playing). • T o select a disc number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly .

ENGLISH 22 This section is only for KS-FX71 1. Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Mak e sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
ENGLISH 23 3 • Functions as the PRESET button while listening to the r adio. Each time y ou press the button, the preset station number increases , and the selected station is tuned in. • Functions as the DISC – b utton while listening to the CD changer .
24 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be troub le is not alwa ys ser ious. Chec k the f ollowing points before calling a ser vice center. Remedies Insert the cassette with the e xposed tape f acing to the r ight. Press and hold T APE 23 and 0 for more than two seconds .
25 ENGLISH Remedies Insert CDs into the magazine. Insert them correctly . Connect this unit and the CD changer correctly and press the reset b utton of the CD changer . Press the reset b utton of the CD changer . Press and hold both the SEL (select) and buttons at the same time f or several seconds .
26 ENGLISH This unit requires very little attention, b ut you will be able to e xtend the lif e of the unit if you f ollow the instructions below . T o clean the head • Clean the head after e ver y 10 hours of use using a w et-type head cleaning tape (availab le at an audio store).
