5 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the first time, set the built-in clock corr ectly , see page 21. 1 T ur n on the pow er . “HELLO” appears on the displa y . 2 Select the source. T o operate the tuner , see pages 6 – 10.
6 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 2 1 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select any one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. 2 Star t searching a station. While searching stations , “SEEK” appears on the displa y .
7 ENGLISH 1 Select the FM band number (FM1, FM2 or FM3) y ou want to store FM stations into . 2 Press and hold both buttons for more than 2 seconds. Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number y ou have selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3).
8 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 3 2 1 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.3 MHz.
9 ENGLISH T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If y ou hav e not stored them yet, see pages 7 and 8. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) you w ant. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) for the preset station you want.
10 ENGLISH Scanning br oadcast stations When you press RPT/SCAN (Repeat/Scan) while listening to the r adio, station scanning starts. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops f or about 5 seconds (“SCAN” flashes on the display), and y ou can check what program is no w being broadcast.
11 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 Open the control panel. 2 1. Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws a CD and starts playback automatically .
12 ENGLISH T o fast-for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to fast-f orward the trac k. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to rev erse the track. T o go to the next tracks or the previous tracks Press ¢ briefly, while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt track.
13 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all trac ks on the CD at random. Each time you press MO/RND (Mono/Random) while playing a CD, CD random pla y mode turns on and off alter nately . When the random mode is turned on, the RND indicator lights up on the display and a track randomly selected starts playing.
14 ENGLISH T o play back only intros (Intro Scan) Each time y ou press INT (Intro) br iefly while pla ying a CD , CD intro scan mode turns on and off alter nately . When the intro scan mode is turned on, “INT” appears on the display f or 5 seconds and the trac k number flashes.
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Playing a CD T ext In a CD T ext, some inf or mation about the disc (its disc title, perf or mer and trac k title) is recorded. Y ou can show these disc information on the display . Select te xt displa y mode while pla ying a CD T e xt.

ENGLISH 17 BBE BBE T urning on/off the BBE II function The BBE II * function restores the brilliance and clar ity of the original live sound in recording, broadcasts, etc. When a speaker reproduces sound, it introduces frequency-dependent phase shifting, causing high-frequency sounds to take longer to reach the ear than lo w frequency sounds.
18 ENGLISH Using the Sound Contr ol Memory Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable to each playbac k source. ( Adv anced SCM ) Selecting and storing the sound modes Once you select a sound mode , it is stored in memor y , and will be recalled e very time you select the same source.
ENGLISH 19 Recalling the sound modes Select the source while the “Link” indicator is lit on the displa y . The “Link” indicator star ts flashing, and the sound mode stored in memory for the selected source is recalled. 24 ENGLISH Canceling Advanced SCM Y ou can cancel the Advanced SCM (Sound Control Memory), and unlink the sound modes and the pla yback sources. When shipped from the f actor y , a diff erent sound mode can be stored in memor y f or each source so that you can change the sound modes simply b y changing the sources.
25 ENGLISH Selecting the level display Y ou can select the lev el display according to y our pref erence. When shipped from the f actory , “A UDIO 2” is selected.
26 ENGLISH Controlling the volume automatically (Audio Cr uise Mode) Y ou can select the proper cruise mode for your car . This unit change the volume le vel automatically (at 3 possible le vels) based on the driving speed of your car b y detecting the alternator's generating frequency (Audio Cruise).

28 ENGLISH T ur ning on/of f the key-touch tone Y ou can deactivate the ke y-touch tone if you do not w ant to make it beep when y ou press a button. When shipped from the factor y , the k ey-touch tone is activ ated. • ON: Activ ates the key-touch tone .
29 ENGLISH Changing the AM/FM channel inter vals When this unit is shipped from the f actor y , the channel inter vals are set to 10 kHz f or AM and 200 kHz for FM (AREA US settings). Y ou will have to change the channel intervals when using this unit in an area other than North America and South Amer ica.
30 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Pull the control panel out of the unit.
31 ENGLISH REMOTE OPERA TIONS Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
32 ENGLISH Using the r emote contr oller 1 Functions the same as the button on the main unit. 2 • Functions as the BAND button while listening to the radio. Each time you press the button, the band changes. • Functions as the DISC + button while listening to the CD changer .
33 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that y ou use one of the CH-X ser ies (e x: CH-X1200) with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or example, if your CD automatic c hanger is one of the KD-MK series, you need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.

37 ENGLISH COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO Center holder MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the and marks. Other discs cannot be play ed back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.
