13 ENGLISH 2 T une in to a station (in this example, of 88.3 MHz). 3 Press and hold the number button (in this example, 1) f or more than 2 seconds. 4 Repeat the above procedure to store other stations into other preset numbers. Notes: • A pre viously preset sta tion is erased when a new station is stor ed in the same preset n umber .
14 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS When playing an MP3 disc , refer also to “MP3 OPERA TIONS” on pages 20 to 26. Playing a CD 1 Open the control panel. The control panel mov es down, and the loading slot appears. Note: When an external component is connected to the MP3 INPUT jack, be car eful of handling a disc.
15 ENGLISH T o return the control panel to its previous position, press 0 again. • If you k eep the loading slot open for one minute (or 30 seconds when you ha ve ejected a disc with the ignition ke y turned to “OFF”), a beep sounds and the control panel returns to its pre vious position.
16 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all trac ks on the disc at random. 1 Press MODE (M) while pla ying a disc. This unit enters the functions mode. 2 Press RND (random) while still in the functions mode, so that “RANDOM” flashes on the displa y .
17 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing SEL (select), press and hold 0 for more than 2 seconds. “NO EJECT” flashes on the displa y for about 5 seconds, and the disc is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
18 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “ files (tracks) ” can be recorded in “ directories (folder s) ”—in PC ter minology . During recording, the files and directories can be arranged in a wa y similar to arranging files and directories/folders of computer data.
19 ENGLISH MP3 directory/ file configuration MP3 playback/search order (page 22) • The numbers in circles below the MP3 files ( ) indicate the playbac k order and search order of the MP3 files. Nor mally this unit plays back MP3 files in the recorded order .
20 ENGLISH MP3 OPERA TIONS EB E-BASS DISP BAND MODE MP3 INPUT Refer also to “CD OPERA TIONS” on pages 14 to 17. Playing an MP3 disc 1 Open the control panel. The control panel mov es down, and the loading slot appears. 2 Insert an MP3 disc into the loading slot.

23 ENGLISH T o go to a particular director y directly IMPORT ANT: T o directly select the directories using the number b utton(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their director y names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD-RWs .
24 ENGLISH T o skip to the previous director y—either on the same hierarchy level or on a different hierarchy level On the control panel: 1 Press MODE (M) while pla ying an MP3 disc. The unit enters the functions mode. 2 Press 4 briefly while still in the functions mode.
25 ENGLISH T o skip to the previous director y on the same hierarchy level (only within the same parent director y) On the remote controller: Each time you press the b utton consecutively , the previous directory on the same hierarchy lev el is located (and the first file in the director y starts playing, if recorded).
26 ENGLISH T o play back only intros (Intro scan) Y ou can play bac k the first 15 seconds of each file sequentially . 1 Press MODE (M) while playing an MP3 disc. The unit enters the functions mode. 2 Press INT (intro scan) while still in the functions mode, so that “INTRO1” or “INTR O2” flashes on the display .
27 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the b utton, the adjustable items change as f ollows: Indication T o do: Range F ADER* Adjust the front R06 (Rear only) and rear speaker | balance. F06 (F ront only) BAL Adjust the left L06 (Left only) and right speaker | balance.
28 ENGLISH Selecting preset sound modes (EQ) Y ou can select a preset sound mode suitable to the music genre. 1 Press EQ to activate the sound mode (EQ).
29 ENGLISH Storing your own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound modes to your pref erence and store your o wn adjustments in memory (USER 1, USER 2 and USER 3). • There is a time limit in doing the follo wing procedure. If the setting is canceled bef ore y ou finish, star t from step 1 again.
30 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed on the next page by using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .

32 ENGLISH T o turn the key-touch tone on or off – BEEP SW Y ou can deactivate the k ey-touch tone if you do not want it to beep each time you press a b utton. When shipped from the f actor y , the key-touch tone is activated. • ON: Activates the k ey-touch tone .
33 ENGLISH T o select the external component to use – EXT IN (For KD-SH707 only) Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied).
34 ENGLISH T o turn the auxiliar y input switch on or off – AUX IN Y ou can switch the auxiliary input off when no external component is connected to the MP3 INPUT jack. When shipped from the f actor y , the auxiliar y input s witch is set to “ON.
35 ENGLISH Assigning names to the sources Y ou can assign names to stations, CDs, and the external components. After assigning a name, it will appear on the displa y when you select the source.
36 ENGLISH Changing the control panel angle Y ou can change the angle of the control panel to four positions . Adjust the angle to the position you want. Each time y ou press the button, the panel angle changes as f ollows: When using the remote controller Press ANGLE ∞ repeatedly .
37 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder .
ENGLISH 38 EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Playing external components For KD-SH909: Y ou can connect two e xternal components to this unit. Connect one to the MP3 INPUT jac k on the control panel, and the other to the LINE IN plugs on the rear .
ENGLISH 39 When connecting a DVD player: : T urns on and off the power . 3 : Starts playback. ¡ : • F ast-f orw ards the chapter when pressed and held. • Skips to the beginning of the ne xt chapter when pressed briefly . 1 : • Re verses the chapter when pressed and held.
40 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS EB E-BASS DISP BAND MODE MP3 INPUT W e recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections.
41 ENGLISH T o go to a particular disc directly Press the number b utton corresponding to the disc number to start its playback (while the CD changer is playing). • T o select a disc number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a disc number from 7 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) for more than 1 second.
42 ENGLISH T o play back tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can play bac k the current trac k or all tracks on the current disc or specified disc in the CD changer .

44 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the follo wing points before calling a service center . Remedies Change the disc. Stop playbac k while driving on rough roads. Change the disc. Check the cords and connections.
