7 ENGLISH 4 Adjust the sound as you want. (See pages 21 – 23.) T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source. “A TT” starts flashing on the display , and the volume level will drop in a moment. T o resume the previous volume level, press the button briefly again.
8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS 3 Start searching a station. When a station is received, searching stops. T o stop searching bef ore a station is received, press the same button y ou hav e pressed for searching. T o search stations of higher frequencies. T uner (FM1 – 3, AM) CD TUNER 5 BAND FM1 FM2 FM3 AM T o search stations of lower frequencies.
9 ENGLISH Searching a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the tuner as the source. • The last selected station is tuned in. 2 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM) if neccessary . Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). Y ou can use any one of them to listen to an FM br oadcast.
10 ENGLISH Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number y ou have selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3). These stations are preset in the number b uttons — No .1 (lowest frequency) to No .6 (highest frequency).
11 ENGLISH 4 Press and hold the number button (in this example, 1) for more than 2 seconds. 5 Repeat the above procedure to store other stations into other preset numbers. Notes: • A pr eviously preset station is erased when a new station is stor ed in the same pr eset number .
12 ENGLISH Playing a CD 1 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws the CD and star ts pla yback automatically . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When a CD is alr eady in the loading slot, pr essing the CD TUNER button turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
13 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all trac ks on the CD at random. Each time you press MO RND (monaural/random) while pla ying a CD , CD random play mode turns on and off alter nately .
14 ENGLISH Playing a CD T ext In a CD T ext, some inf ormation about the disc (its disc title, perf ormer and track title) is recorded. Y ou can show these disc inf ormation on the display .
15 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION How are MP3 files recorded and played back? MP3 “ files (trac ks) ” can be recorded in “ directories (folder s) ”— in PC ter minology . During recording, the files and directories can be arranged in a wa y similar to arranging files and directories/folders of computer data.

18 ENGLISH T o go to a particular directory directly IMPORT ANT: T o directly select the directories using the number button(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their directory names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD-Rs or CD-RWs.
19 ENGLISH Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla yback all trac ks on MP3 disc at random. Each time you press MO RND (monaural/random) while pla ying an MP3 disc, the random pla y mode changes as f ollows.
20 ENGLISH RPT 1 Lights The current file (or specified file). RPT 2 Flashes All files of the current directory (or specified directory). Mode Plays repeatedly RPT Indicator T o play back files repeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can pla y back the current file or all the files in the current directory repeatedly .
21 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your pref erence. 2 Adjust the level. Note: Normally , the contr ol dial works as the volume contr ol. So you do not have to select “VOL” to adjust the volume level.
22 ENGLISH Using the sound control memor y (SCM) Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable f or each playbac k source (Advanced SCM). Selecting and storing the sound modes Once you select a sound mode , it is stored in memor y . It will be recalled e very time you select the same source and will be shown on the displa y .
23 ENGLISH Storing your own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound modes (BEA T , SOFT , POP) to your pref erence and store your o wn adjustments in memory . • There is a time limit in doing the follo wing procedure. If the setting is canceled before y ou finish, star t from step 1 again.
24 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds. “CLOCK H, ” “CLOCK M, ” “SCM LINK, ” “LEVEL ”,“SCROLL ” or “T AG DISP” appears on the display . 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “CLOCK H (hour)” if not sho wn on the display .
25 ENGLISH Canceling Advanced SCM —SCM LINK Y ou can cancel the Adv anced SCM (Sound Control Memory), and unlink the sound modes and the playbac k sources. When shipped from the f actor y , a different sound mode can be stored in memory for each source so that you can change the sound modes simply by changing the sources .

27 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
28 ENGLISH Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), and CD-R Ws (Rewritable), and CD T exts . • This unit is also compatible with MP3 discs. How to handle discs When removing a disc fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the disc out, holding it by the edges .
29 ENGLISH What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Remedies Inser t the disc correctly . Stop playbac k while driving on rough roads. Change the disc. Check the cords and connections.
30 ENGLISH MP3 Playback Symptoms • Disc cannot be play ed back. • Files skip , or 00 ’ 00 ” appears and the pla yback stops. • Noise is generated. • A longer readout time is required ( “ CHECK ” keeps flashing on the displa y). • Files cannot be play ed back as you ha ve intended them to play .
