5 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the first time , set the built-in cloc k corr ectly , see page 21. 1 T urn on the power . The display illuminates and the control panel comes out.
6 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune into a particular station. Searching a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band. 1 Press SOURCE (A TT) to select the tuner as the source.
7 ENGLISH Searching a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the band. 1 Press SOURCE (A TT) to select the tuner as the source . 2 Press BAND to select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Note: This r eceiver has thr ee FM bands (FM1, FM2, FM3). Y ou can use any one of them to listen to an FM br oadcast.

9 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset number 1 of the FM1 band 1 Select the band. 1 Press SOURCE (A TT) to select the tuner as the source .

15 ENGLISH T o play back only intros (Intr o Scan) Y ou can play bac k the first 15 seconds of each trac k sequentially . 1 Press MODE while playing a CD. “MODE” appears on the low er par t of the display , and the n umber buttons can work as different function b uttons.
16 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your pref erence. 1 Select the item y ou want to adjust. Each time you press the b utton, the adjustable items change as follo ws: Indication T o do: Range BAS Adjust the bass.
ENGLISH 17 T ur ning on/off the BBE II function The BBE II * function restores the brilliance and clar ity of the original live sound in recording, broadcasts, etc. When a speaker reproduces sound, it introduces frequency-dependent phase shifting, causing high-frequency sounds to take longer to reach the ear than lo w frequency sounds.
18 ENGLISH Using the Sound Contr ol Memory Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable f or each pla yback source . ( Adv anced SCM ) Selecting and storing the sound modes Once you select a sound mode , it is stored in memor y , and will be recalled e v er y time you select the same source.
ENGLISH 19 Recalling the sound modes Select the source while the “Link” indicator is lit on the displa y . The “Link” indicator star ts flashing, and the sound mode stored in memor y f or the selected source is recalled (and appears on the displa y for a while).
20 ENGLISH Storing y our own sound adjustments Y ou can adjust the sound modes (BEA T , SOFT , POP: see page 18) to your preference and store your own adjustments in memory . 1 Light “MODE” on the lo wer par t of the displa y . The number b uttons can work as different function b uttons.
21 ENGLISH OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS Setting the clock 1 2 1 2 1 Press and hold SEL (Select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “CLOCK HOUR” if not sho wn on the display . 2 Adjust the hour .
22 ENGLISH Y ou can select the proper cruise mode for y our car . This unit changes the v olume lev el automatically (at 3 possib le lev els) based on the driving speed of your car b y detecting the alternator’ s generating frequency (A udio Cruise).
23 ENGLISH When this function is turned on (the CR UISE indicator lights up on the displa y), the proper volume le v el is automatically selected among the 3 possible le v els according to the driving speed, and the selected le vel is shown on the displa y .

26 ENGLISH T o cancel Advanced SCM Y ou can cancel the Advanced SCM (Sound Control Memory), and unlink the sound modes and the pla yback sources When shipped from the f actor y , a different sound mode can be stored in memory for each source so that you can change the sound modes simply b y changing the sources.
27 ENGLISH T o adjust the display contrast level Y ou can adjust the display contrast le vel among 01 (dark) to 10 (br ight). When shipped from the factory , the displa y contrast le vel is set at le v el 05. T o select the scroll mode Y ou can select the scroll mode for the disc inf or mation if it consists of more than 12 characters .
28 ENGLISH T o adjust the line input level Adjust the line input lev el properly when an external component is connected to the LINE IN plugs. When shipped from the f actory , the line input lev el is set at le vel 00. If the input le vel of the connected component is not high enough, increase the input le v el properly .
29 ENGLISH Assigning names to the sour ces Y ou can assign names to station frequencies, CDs and the e xter nal component connected to the LINE IN plugs.

(In this case, delete unwanted names befor e assignment.) • When the CD changer is connected, you can assign names to CDs in the the CD c hanger .
32 ENGLISH REMOTE OPERA TIONS Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
33 ENGLISH Using the r emote contr oller 1 • T urns on the unit if pressed briefly . • T urns off the unit if pressed and held until “SEE Y OU” appears on the display . • Drops the volume le v el for a moment if pressed briefly . Press again to resume the volume .
34 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that y ou use one of the CH-X series (e x: CH-X1200) with your unit. If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections. • F or example , if your CD automatic chang er is one of the KD-MK series, y ou need a cor d (KS-U15K) for connecting it to this unit.

39 ENGLISH COMPACT DIGITAL AUDIO Center holder MAINTENANCE Handling CDs This unit has been designed only to reproduce the CDs bearing the and marks. Other discs cannot be play ed back. How to handle CDs When removing a CD fr om its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the CD out, holding it by the edges.
40 ENGLISH What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service centre. TROUBLESHOOTING Symptoms • CD cannot be play ed back. • CD sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers.
