ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases, and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first file of the previous f older while listening to an MP3 disc.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).

8 ENGLISH Canceling the display demonstration When shipped from the factory , display demonstration has been activ ated, and star ts automatically when no operations are done f or about 20 seconds. • It is recommended to cancel the displa y demonstration bef ore you use the unit for the first time.
9 ENGLISH Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see page 25.) 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “ CLOCK H ” (hour) if not shown on the displa y . 2 Adjust the hour .
10 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
11 ENGLISH When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive: 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while listening to an FM stereo broadcast. 2 Press MO (monaural), while “MODE” is still flashing on the displa y , so that “MONO” appears on the displa y .
12 ENGLISH T o tune in to stations of lower frequencies T o tune in to stations of higher frequencies FM1 FM2 FM3 AM Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the follo wing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory .
13 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you ha ve not stored them y et, see “Storing stations in memory” on pages 12 and 13. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).

17 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing CD CD-CH (for KD-G455) or CD (for KD-G405), press and hold 0 for more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display f or about 5 seconds, and the disc is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
18 ENGLISH MP3 INTRODUCTION What is MP3? MP3 is an abbre viation of Motion Picture Exper ts Group (or MPEG) Audio La yer 3. MP3 is simply a file format with a data compression ratio of 1:10 (128 Kbps*). * Bit rate is the aver age number of bits that one second of audio data will consume.
19 ENGLISH Refer also to “CD OPERA TIONS” on pages 14 to 17. Playing an MP3 disc Insert an MP3 disc into the loading slot. Note on One-T ouch operation: When a disc is already in the loading slot, pr essing CD CD-CH (for KD-G455) or CD (for KD-G405) turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
20 ENGLISH T o skip 10 files* forwards to the last file T o skip 10 files* backwards to the first file T o change the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file, y ou can change the MP3 disc inf ormation shown on the display . Press DISP (display) repeatedly .
21 ENGLISH Press the number b utton corresponding to the folder n umber to star t playing the first file in the selected folder . • T o select a folder number from 01 – 06: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a folder number from 07 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) for more than one second.
22 ENGLISH Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all files of the current folder or all files on the MP3 disc at random. 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying an MP3 disc.

24 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as follo ws: Indication T o do: Range BAS * 1 Adjust the bass.
25 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed in the table below b y using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .
26 ENGLISH T o select the dimmer mode—DIMMER Y ou can dim the display at night (according to your pref erence). When shipped from the factory , dimmer is deactivated.
27 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
28 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS Playing discs Select the CD changer (CD-CH). * If you have changed “EXT IN” setting to “LINE IN” (see page 26), you cannot select the CD chang er . • When the current disc is an MP3 disc: Playbac k star ts from the first folder of the current disc once file check is completed.

30 ENGLISH T o skip to the next or previous folder (only for MP3 discs) T o show the disc information for CD T ext and MP3 discs This is possible only when connecting a JVC CD changer equipped with CD T ext and/or MP3 disc information reading capability .

32 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS This section is only f or KD-G455. Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied).
33 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw a ys serious. Check the f ollowing points bef ore calling a ser vice center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds to reset the unit.
34 ENGLISH Remedies Change the disc. Add the extension code <.mp3> to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.) Skip to another file or change the disc. (Do not add the extension code <.mp3> to non- MP3 files.
35 ENGLISH About mistracking: Mistrac king may r esult fr om driving on extremel y r ough r oads. This does not damage the unit and the disc, but will be annoying . W e recommend that you stop disc play while driving on suc h r ough roads. Remedies Inser t discs into the magazine.
36 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE Center holder Handling discs This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), CD-R Ws (Rewritable), and CD T exts. • This unit is also compatible with MP3 discs. How to handle discs When removing a disc from its case, press down the center holder of the case and lift the disc out, holding it by the edges.
