7 ENGLISH Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or artificial lighting).
8 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS T urning on the power 1 T urn on the power . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to pr ess this button to turn on the power . 2 Select the source.
9 ENGLISH Canceling the display demonstration When shipped from the factory , display demonstration has been activated, and starts automatically when no operations are done for about 20 seconds. • It is recommended to cancel the demonstration before you use the unit for the first time.
10 ENGLISH 5 Set the cloc k system. 1 Select “ 24H/12H. ” 2 Adjust “ 24Hours ” or “ 12Hours. ” 6 Finish the setting. T o chec k the current cloc k time when the unit is turned off, press DISP (D). The power turns on and the clock time is shown for about 5 seconds, then the power turns of f.
11 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Selected band appears. Lights up when receiving an FM stereo broadcast with sufficient signal strength. FM1 FM2 FM3 AM SRC The operations of this section are mainly explained using the buttons on the control panel. When the remote controller can be used for the same operations, it is then explained.
12 ENGLISH FM1 FM2 FM3 AM SRC M MODE Searching for a station manually: Manual search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). 1 Press SRC (source) repeatedly to select the tuner . 2 Press and hold SRC. Each time you press and hold the button, the band changes.
13 ENGLISH 2 Press and hold number button 5 while “ Mode ” is still on the display . Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number you have selected (FM1, FM2, or FM3). These stations are preset in the number buttons — No.
14 ENGLISH 1 3 Press and hold the number b utton (in this example, 1) for more than 2 seconds. 4 Repeat the abo ve procedure to store other stations into other preset number s. Notes: • A pr eviously preset station is erased when a ne w station is stor ed in the same pr eset number .
15 ENGLISH Selecting a preset station using the preset station list If you forget which stations are stored in which preset numbers, you can check the preset station list, then select your desired station. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM). 1 Press SRC (source) repeatedly to select the tuner .
16 ENGLISH Changing the display pattern By pressing DISP (D), you can change the information shown on the display . Each time you press the button, the display patterns change as follows: D DISP Appears only when selecting a preset station number .
17 ENGLISH RDS OPERA TIONS What you can do with RDS RDS (Radio Data System) allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular programme signals. For example, the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of programme they broadcast, such as sports or music, etc.
18 ENGLISH 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see pages 58 and 59.) 2 Press number b utton 4 to select “TUNER”—T uner category of the PSM settings. The “PTY Stnby” (standby) setting screen appears on the display .
19 ENGLISH Using PTY Standby Reception PTY Standby Reception allows the unit to switch temporarily to your favorite programme (PTY : Programme T ype) from any source except AM stations.
20 ENGLISH Searching your favorite programme Y ou can search any one of the PTY codes. In addition, you can store your 6 favorite programme types in the number buttons. When shipped from the factory , the following 6 programme types have been stored in the number buttons (1 to 6).
21 ENGLISH 3 Press and hold the number b utton for more than 2 seconds to store the PTY code selected into the preset number y ou want. Selected preset number flashes for a while.
22 ENGLISH Setting the T A volume level Y ou can preset the volume level for T A Standby Reception. When a traffic programme is received, the volume level automatically changes to the preset level. • See also “ Changing the general settings (PSM) ” on page 57.

ENGLISH 24 PLA Y ABLE DISCS • On some discs, the actual operations may be different from what is explained in this manual. • The following discs cannot be played back; – DVD-Audio, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW , CD-ROM, CD-I (CD-I Ready), Photo CD, etc.
ENGLISH 25 MP3 discs MP3 is an abbreviation of Motion Picture Experts Group 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio Layer 3. MP3 is simply a file format with a data compression. By using MP3 format, one CD-R or CD-RW can contain 10 times as much data as a regular CD can.
ENGLISH 26 The following marks used in this manual indicate the playable discs. BASIC DISC PLA YBACK Starting playback 1 Open the control panel. 2 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The disc loading lamp start flashing, and the unit draws in the disc automatically .

ENGLISH 39 Basic procedure for MP3 discs While playing an MP3 disc, the following MP3 CONTROL screen always shows on the monitor. By referring to this screen, you can easily operate the MP3 disc. • Up to 32 characters can be shown for the file names on the monitor , while 64 characters on the display of the receiver .

DVD DUAL ZONE Then DUAL ZONE OPERA TIONS Listening with headphones By connecting headphones to the 2nd AUDIO OUT plug on the rear , you can listen to the playback sound through the DVD/CD player while listening to another source (except AM) through the speakers.
ENGLISH 41 M MODE 2 Adjust the headphone v olume through the 2nd A UDIO OUT plug. 3 Operate the D VD/CD player using the remote contr oller by referring to the monitor screen. • When Dual Zone is in use, you can only operate the DVD/CD player using the remote controller .
42 ENGLISH In this section, you can learn how to use the buttons on the control panel in order to operate the DVD/CD player . Basic disc playback T o stop playback Press ∞ (down). • This unit can remember the end point, and when you start playback again, playback begins from where it has been stopped.
43 ENGLISH While playing an MP3 disc: While playing a VCD or CD: M MODE Locating a title/chapter/track on a disc T o locate a particular title/chapter/track directly • For DVD: During play or pause — select a chapter While stopped — select a title • For VCD: While PBC (see page 32) is not in use.
44 ENGLISH T o skip to the next or previous folder Press 5 (up) while playing a disc to skip to the next folder . Each time you press the button consecutively , the next folder is located and the first track in the folder starts playing. Press ∞ (down) while playing a disc to skip back to the previous folder .
45 ENGLISH 3456 2 1 3456 2 1 T o select a track and start playback 1 Press and hold 5 (up) or ∞ (down) so that the f older name list of the inser ted disc appears on the displa y . The name of the currently playing folder will be highlighted on the display .

48 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing SRC, press and hold for more than 2 seconds. “ No Eject ” flashes on the display for about 5 seconds, and the disc is locked and cannot be ejected.
49 ENGLISH This page is from 1 105 Notes: • When the folder name is shown, the (folder) indicator lights up. When the file name is shown, the (file) indicator lights up. • If “T ag” is set to “On” (see page 60), ID3 tag information will appear on the display if the disc has an ID3 tag.
ENGLISH 50 DVD DVD SETUP MENU SETUP 7 2 DISC + DISC – 8 5 ENTER Y ou can store the initial selection for subtitle languages, audio languages, and other settings using the Setup Menu. • DVD Setup menu can only be displayed while a disc, except MP3 disc, is inserted and selected for the playback source.

ENGLISH 53 DVD Items For what and options DIGIT AL AUDIO OUTPUT Select the signal format to be emitted through the DIGIT AL OUT (Optical) terminal on the rear . • PCM ONL Y Select this when connecting an amplifier or a decoder incompatible with Dolby Digital and DTS, or connecting to a recording device.
54 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Operations of this section are explained using the buttons on the control panel unless mentioned otherwise. Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference. • “V ol Adj” setting is required for each source except FM.
55 ENGLISH Selecting preset sound modes (iEQ: intelligent equalizer) Y ou can select a preset sound mode (iEQ: intelligent equalizer) suitable to the music genre. • There is a time limit in doing the following procedure. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again.
56 ENGLISH 4 Make adjustments as y ou like . 1) Press ¢ or 4 to select the frequency band — 60Hz, 150Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.4kHz, 6kHz, 12kHz. 2) Press 5 (up) or ∞ (down) to adjust the level of the selected band within the range of – 05 to +05. 3) Repeat steps 1) and 2) to adjust the other frequency bands.

60 ENGLISH T o turn on/off the key-touch tone — Beep Y ou can deactivate the key-touch tone if you do not want it to beep each time you press a button. • On: Activates the key-touch tone. • Off: Deactivates the key-touch tone. T o select the telephone muting — T elephone This mode is used when a cellular phone system is connected.
61 ENGLISH Selecting the dimmer mode Y ou can dim the display at night automatically or as you set the timer . When shipped from the factory , Auto Dimmer mode is activated. Note: Auto Dimmer supplied with this unit may not work correctly on some v ehic les, particularly on those having a contr ol dial for dimming.
62 ENGLISH Changing the display color Y ou can set the display color using the PSM control. Y ou can select your favorite color for each source (or for all sources).
63 ENGLISH Creating your own color — User Y ou can create your own colors —“ Day ” and “ Night, ” and select them as the display color for any desired source. • Day: Can be used as your user color during the day time (while the headlights are turned off), or as set by the timer — “ From – To .

65 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
66 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS Playing discs Select the CD changer (CD-CH). Each time you press the button, the source changes as described on page 8. When you select a source, the power automatically comes on. Notes: • Y ou can also use the CH button on the r emote contr oller .

Playing an external component Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adapter KS-U57 (not supplied).
73 ENGLISH DAB TUNER OPERA TIONS T uning in to an ensemble and one of the services A typical ensemble has 6 or more programmes (services) broadcast at the same time. After tuning in to an ensemble, you can select a service you want to listen to. 1 Select the D AB tuner .
74 ENGLISH Press 5 (up) to select the next service. (If a primary service has some secondary services, they are selected before the next primary service is selected.) Press ∞ (down) to select the previous service (either primary or secondary). Press 5 (up) to select the next service.
75 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset DAB service Y ou can easily tune in to a preset DAB service. Remember that you must store services first. If you have not stored them yet, “ Storing DAB services in memory ” on pages 74 and 75. 1 Select the D AB tuner .
76 ENGLISH What you can do more with DAB With the DAB tuner connected, you can tracing the same program (service) automatically while driving where the same DAB ensemble is not received. T racing the same program automatically (Alternative Reception) Y ou can keep listening to the same program.

81 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum level. Check the cords and connections. Press the reset button on the panel holder after detaching the control panel.
