2 ENGLISH How to reset your unit Press the reset button on the control panel using a ball-point pen or a similar tool. This will reset the built-in microcomputer . Note: Y our preset adjustments—suc h as pr eset channels or sound adjustments—will also be erased.

ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases , and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first track of the pre vious folder while listening to an MP3 or a WMA disc.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).
7 ENGLISH * 2 W ithout connecting the CD changer , you cannot select “CD-CH” as the sour ce. * 3 T o select the external component as the sour ce, set “Ext Input” corr ectly (see page 39). 3 Adjust the v olume . 4 Adjust the sound as you want.
8 ENGLISH T o drop the volume in a moment Press briefly while listening to any source. “ AT T ” star ts flashing on the display , and the volume le vel will drop in a moment. T o resume the previous v olume lev el, press the button briefly again. • If you turn the control dial, you can also restore the sound.
9 ENGLISH Setting the clock Y ou can also set the cloc k system to either 24 hours or 12 hours. 1 Press and hold SEL (select) for more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see pages 36 and 37.) The next-step-oper ation buttons star t flashing.
10 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
11 ENGLISH 3 T une in to a station you want while “Manual Sear ch” is flashing. • If you release y our finger from the button, the manual mode automatically turns off after about 5 seconds. • If you hold down the b utton, the frequency keeps changing (in 200 kHz intervals f or FM and 10 kHz f or AM) until you release the button.
12 ENGLISH Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory . • Automatic preset of FM stations: SSM (Strong- station Sequential Me.
13 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that you m ust store stations first. If you ha ve not stored them y et, see “Storing stations in memory” on pages 12 and 13. Selecting a preset station directly 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
14 ENGLISH Selecting a preset station using the preset station list If you f orget what stations are stored in which preset numbers, y ou can check the preset station list, then select your desired station.
15 ENGLISH This unit has been designed to reproduce CDs, CD-Rs (Recordable), CD-R Ws (Rewritable), and CD T exts . • This unit is also compatible with MP3 and WMA discs. For details about these discs, refer to “A Guide to MP3/WMA” (separate volume).

17 ENGLISH What is ImageLink? When an MP3 or a WMA folder includes an image <jml> file edited by Image Con verter (supplied in the CD-ROM), y ou can show the image on the display while the trac ks in the folder are pla yed bac k.

19 ENGLISH T o skip to the next or previous folder (Only possible for MP3 or WMA disc) Note: If the folder does not contain any MP3 or WMA trac ks, it is skipped.
20 ENGLISH Selecting a track and start playback 1 Press and hold 5 (up) or ∞ (down) so that the folder name list of the inserted disc appears on the display . The current pla ying folder will be highlighted on the display . 2 Press ¢ or 4 to show the track name list of the current f older .
21 ENGLISH Selecting the playback modes T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Y ou can pla y back all trac ks on the disc (or a folder f or MP3 and WMA discs) at random. 1 Press M MODE while playing a disc. “ Mode ” appears on the display .
22 ENGLISH T o play back only intros (Intro Scan) Y ou can pla y back the first 15 seconds of each track sequentially . 1 Press M MODE while playing a disc. “ Mode ” appears on the display . The next-step-oper ation buttons star t flashing. 2 Press number b utton 1 repeatedly while “ Mode ” is still on the display .
23 ENGLISH Changing the display pattern By pressing D DISP , you can change the inf ormation shown on the display . If the inf or mation cannot be shown at a time, it will scroll on the displa y . See also “ To select the scroll mode — Scroll ” on page 38.
24 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can set the speak er output balance, subwoof er output lev el, and input le vel of each source. • There is a time limit in doing the follo wing procedure. If the setting is canceled before y ou finish, star t from step 1 again.

27 ENGLISH 4 Make adjustments as y ou like . 1) Press ¢ or 4 to select the frequency band—60Hz, 150Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.4kHz, 6kHz, 12kHz. 2) Press 5 (up) or ∞ (down) to adjust the level of the selected band within the range of –05 to +05. 3) Repeat steps 1) and 2) to adjust the other frequency bands.

29 ENGLISH GRAPHIC DISPLA YS What is Image Converter? Image Conv er ter is a JVC’ s original software to produce customize images to be shown on y our JVC Car Audio .
30 ENGLISH Downloading images and animations Before starting the follo wing procedure, prepare a CD-ROM including still images (pictures) and animations (movies). • The supplied Image Conv er ter CD-ROM includes sample images and animations, so you can use this disc as y our first trial.
31 ENGLISH • Opening : Opening screen T o download an animation to be shown after the unit is turned on. (Y ou can store only one animation consisting of a maximum of 30 frames .) • Ending : Ending screen T o download an animation to be shown before the unit is turned off .
32 ENGLISH 9 Select (highlight) a file y ou want to download. 10 If it is OK, press number b utton 1 to start downloading. Downloading starts, and “Downloading... ” appears on the displa y . If it is ov er , the file name list appears again. If it is not OK, press number button 5, the file selection screen appears again.

34 ENGLISH 6 Press number button 3 to start erasure. “Now Deleting... ” appears while erasing the selected file . When erasure is ov er , the name list of the stored file appears again. 7 T o delete more files, repeat from steps 5 and 6 . 8 Press D DISP to resume the source indication screen.
35 ENGLISH Selecting a still image for graphic display—User Picture Y ou cannot select “UserPict. ” as a PSM item in the follo wing cases: • If no image is stored in “Picture, ” or • “UserPict. ” is not selected f or the “Gr aphics” setting (see the left column).
36 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed on the tab le below and on page 37 b y using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. • The PSM items are grouped into six categories—MO VIE, CLOCK, DISP (display), TUNER, A UDIO , and COLOR.

38 ENGLISH T o show the graphics on the display —Graphics Y ou can change the gr aphics shown on the displa y . These graphics appear if no operation is done for about 20 seconds (e xcept for “ImageLink”). • All Demo: Display demonstration (animation) appears (see page 8).
39 ENGLISH T o change the FM tuner selectivity — IF Filter In some areas, adjacent stations ma y interfere with each other . If this interf erence occurs, noise ma y be heard. • Auto: When this type of interf erence occurs, this unit automatically increases the tuner selectivity so that interference noise will be reduced.
40 ENGLISH Selecting the dimmer mode Y ou can dim the displa y at night automatically or as you set the timer . Note: Auto Dimmer equipped with this unit may not work corr ectly on some vehicles, particularly on those having a contr ol dial for dimming.
41 ENGLISH Changing the display color Y ou can set the displa y color using the PSM control. Y ou can select your f avorite color f or each source (or f or all sources).
42 ENGLISH 4 Select the user color adjustment screen. One of the user color adjustment screens appears. “User Da y” or “User Night” is shown on the left side of the displa y . 5 Select “Day” or “Night” which you want to make an adjustment for .
43 ENGLISH 3 Select the character set y ou want while the first character position is flashing. Each time you press the button, the character set changes as follo ws: 4 Select a character . • About the av ailable characters, see page 55. 5 Move the cur sor to the next (or previous) character position.
44 ENGLISH Changing the control panel angle Y ou can change the angle of the control panel to four positions . Press ANGLE repeatedly to adjust the angle of the control panel to the position you want. CAUTION: NEVER inser t your finger in between the control panel and the unit, as it may get caught or hur t.
45 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when lea ving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to turn off the power .
46 ENGLISH CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS Playing discs Select the CD changer (CD-CH). Each time you press the b utton, the source changes as described on page 7. • When the current disc is an MP3 disc: Playbac k star ts from the first folder of the current disc once file check is completed.
47 ENGLISH • When the current disc is a CD: Pla yback star ts from the first trac k of the current disc. Notes: • When you pr ess CD/CD-CH LINE (for KD-AR3000) or CD/CD-CH (for KD-LH300), the power automatically comes on. Y ou do not have to press to turn on the power .

49 ENGLISH Selecting a disc/folder/track using the name lists If you f orget what discs are loaded in the CD changer , you can show the disc name list and select a disc in the list shown on the displa y . • The displa y can show only six names at a time.

53 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections . Press the reset button on the control panel.
54 ENGLISH Symptoms • Disc cannot be play ed back. •“ Not Suppor t ” appears and trac ks skip. • Noise is generated. • A longer readout time is required ( “ File Check ” keeps flashing on the displa y). • T racks cannot be pla yed back as y ou have intended them to play .
55 ENGLISH Remedies This is nor mal (see page 30). W ait until the operating temperature resumes — until (LOW TEMP .) indicator goes off. Inser t discs into the magazine. Inser t discs correctly . Inser t the magazine. Connect this unit and the CD changer correctly and press the reset button of the CD changer .
