4 Intr oduction This camera recorder enables recording of HD/SD f or mat images to an SDHC card, and also play back of these images. New [Dual Rec] f eature This recorder is e q uipped with two SD card slots as well as a new [Dual Rec] f eature that enables simultaneous recording to both SDHC cards.

6 Intr oduction Maintenance 䡵 T ur n off the pow er before perf or ming any maintenance. 䡵 Wipe the e xter nal cabinet o f the unit with a soft cloth. Do not wipe the body with benzene or thinner . Doing so ma y cause the surface to melt or tur n cloudy .
7 Others 䡵 Do not inser t objects oth er than the memor y card into the card slot. 䡵 Do not b lock the v ent on the unit. Blocking of the vent causes internal h eating and may lead to burns and fires. 䡵 Do not turn off the [POWER] s witch or remov e the pow er cable during recording or playbac k.
8 Intr oduction This camera recorder has three operation modes - Camera mode, Media mode, and USB mode . The operation mode indicator on the left side of the camera recorder lights up according to the mode.

26 Preparations Set the date/time of the built-in clock in the [Initial Setting] screen. The configured date/time da ta is sav ed in the built-in rechargeable battery ev en if the power is turned off.

28 Preparations When the lens is first attached , adju st the back f ocus of the lens if the focus is not clear when zoomed to the telephoto or wide angle end. ● Place an object 3 m and abov e awa y from the camera recorder . ● The Siemen s Star Chart is most suitab le as the object.
29 䡵 Adjusting the LC D Monitor Screen Adjusting co ntour and brightness ● Use the [LCD BRIGHT +/-] button to adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor screen. Press the [+] and [-] buttons simultaneously to retur n to standard settings. ● During adjustme nt, the brightness le v el is displa y ed on the LCD monitor screen.

32 Preparations Inser ting an SDHC Car d This camera recorder comes with two card slots f or video/ audio recording a nd playbac k (Slot A and B). 1 Slide the SDHC card cover kn ob of the desired slot in the direction of the ar row and open the co ver .
33 Formatting (Initial izing) SDHC Cards When the follo wing cards are inser ted , A FORMA TTING REQUIRED B appears. Format the card using the camera recorder menu. ● Unformatted SDHC cards ● SDHC cards f or matted under different specifications * For details of the men u operation, see [Basic Oper ations in Menu Screen] ( A P age 70).
34 Preparations Restoring the SDHC Car d It is necessar y to restore the SDHC card if an abnor mality occurs to the data in the card due to some reasons. The message A REST ORE MEDIA B appears on the LCD monitor/viewfinder screen when an SDHC card th at re q uires restor ing is inser ted.
35 Clips Recor ded to SDHC Cards 䡵 Folders in the SDHC Car d Images captured are recorded to [PRIV A TE] B [JVC] fo lder inside the SDHC card. Images recorded are sor ted into the respective f olders according to the menu settings below .

37 Focus Assist Function When the [FOCUS ASSIST] bu tton is pressed during shooting, the focused area is display ed in co lor (blue , red, or green). This enables easy and accurate f ocusing.
38 Shooting Y ou can select the system definit ion (HD or SD), file f ormat for recording /pla yback and the record f or mat f or video images on this camera recorder . M em o : ● Make a selection in [Main Menu] B [Record Form at] menu. Selecting a Syst em Definition Select the system definition in [System Definition].
39 Selecting the Aspect Ratio of SD Videos Select an aspect ratio f or the images. 40 Shooting This function electr ically b oosts the light sensitivity wh en there is insufficient illuminati on on the object. Y ou can set the gain of the video amplifier according to the brightness of the object. Select the setting mode according to your shooting conditions.
41 䡵 Switching Shutter Speed When shutter is ON, use th e cross-shaped button ( JK ) to set the shutter speed. Shutter speed diff ers according to the video format and variable frame rate settings .
42 Shooting Adjust the white balance according to the color temperature of the lighting. Y ou can se lect the adjustment mode according to the shooting conditi ons.
43 䡵 Error Message If the white balance adjustment is not correctly completed, one of the follo wing messages will appear for about 5 seconds. 䡵 White P aint Adjustment Y ou can fine-tune the white balance sav ed in Memor y A or Memory B.
44 Shooting Y ou need to adjust white shadi ng when you change the lens. Even if white balance is adjusted in the center of the screen, the top and bottom of the screen may not be adjusted. In this case , green a nd yello w colors m ay ap pear on the screen.
45 Use the ND filter to keep the lens aper ture in the appropriate range. Switch according to the br ightness of the object. When the switch is changed, the position of the s witched ND filter is display ed on the LCD monitor and viewfinder screens. (ST A TUS 1 Screen) M em o : ● The display of the ND filter position is set to A Off B by default.
46 Shooting Y ou can record audio from the two channels (CH-1/CH-2) in synchronization with video images on this camera recorder . The camera recorder is e q uipped with [INPUT1] and [INPUT2 ] terminals f or audio input. Y ou c an select a record ing channel and the adju stment mode (man ual/automati c).
47 N o t e : ● When the [FULL A UT O] switch on the camera recorder is set to A ON B , the recordin g le vel cannot be adjusted with the [A UDIO LEVEL CH-1/CH-2] adjustment knob .
48 Shooting Time code and user’s bit data are recorded with the video in this camera recorder . The time code and user’ s bit are display ed on the viewfinder and LCD screens d uring playbac k or recording.
49 Presetting the Time Code Time code and user’s bit data generated from the inter nal time code generator are recorded. This section describes how to set [TC Preset] in the [TC/UB] menu.

53 When the luminance l ev el range f or displa ying zebr a patterns is specified, diag onal lines (z ebra patter n) are displayed at areas with the specified luminan ce le vels during shooting.
54 Shooting The brightness of th e object during shoo ting is display ed. This function is useful when setting video or stage lighting or when specifying camera exposure. A cursor indicating the location and the brightness (% ) of that location ar e displa yed in the images sho wn on the LCD monitor and viewfinder screens.
55 䡵 When [M anual] is sel ected A [SPO T METER FIXED] is display ed when the switch is flipped. The br ightness of the cursor position is displayed. B [SPOT METER OFF] is display ed when the switch is flipped. Displays of cursors and brightness disappe ar .
56 Shooting Y ou can check (re view) the last recorded video clip on the screen. Howe v er , the video clip cannot b e pla yed back if the settings of the camera recorder are diff erent from the video fo r mat (Camera Resolution/F rame & Bit Rate) of the clip .
57 If both the slots are loaded with recordable cards in the factory default ([Slot Mode] is set to A Series B ), pressing the [REC] butt on star ts recordin g only to the media in the selected slot. When the remaining space in the selected media runs out, recordi ng continues b y automatically activating the media in the other slot.
58 Shooting N o t e : ● T o perform recording in the Dual Rec mode, it is recommended that you star t recording by making use of two cards with the same capacity and from the f or matted state. ● Y ou can combine the use of the Dual Rec mode with a special recording mode.
59 N o t e : ● Video and audio before the abov e mentioned time may not be recorded after record ing star ts in the following cases. ● Immediately after power on ● Immediately after recording st.
60 Shooting V ariable Frame Rec Shooting in thi s mode allows you to obtain smooth slow motion or q uick motion videos. Using diff er ent frame ra te settings f or recordi ng and playbac k, videos captured at nor mal speed can be play ed back more smoothly than those in low or high speed playbac k.
61 Playbac k T o play back clips recorded on SDHC cards, s witch to the Media mode (SD Card mode). Press the [CAM/MEDIA] selection button in Camera mode to enter SD Card mode. A th umbnail screen of the cli ps recorded on the SDHC card is display ed. Y ou can play bac k the selected clip on the thumb nail screen.

66 Playbac k F or deleting clips . M em o : ● Clips appended with OK mar ks cannot be deleted on the camera recorder . ● Read-only clips can be deleted on a PC. Deleting One Clip Y ou can delete a selected clip with any of the f ollowing operations.

68 Playbac k Y ou can app end OK marks to the clips for impor tant scenes. Clips appended with OK mar ks cannot be deleted, thus protecting the impor tant clips. When the camera recorder is in Media mode (SD Card mode), you can delete the OK marks appended during recording, or append/d elete OK marks after shooting.
69 Deleting OK Marks 䡵 During Thumbnail Screen 1 Select a clip to delete OK mark and pre ss the [USER1] button. The OK mark is deleted. M em o : ● The [USER1] b utton i s disab led (displa yed in gra y) an d OK mar ks cannot be deleted when the write- protect switch of the SDHC card is set ( is displayed).
